  1. Yes I said "give them a good game" and meant it.... DC does have their work cut out for them....am as big a fan as any but that is just a fact. Of course would love to see them pull the "upset"...who wouldn't???? I just think some mistakes DC has made in games has come from lack of maturity....that is not saying anything bad at all....that will come. Just talking to most of the Dyer Co fans I work with, most seems to think Dyer Co has a good chance..Like some of the others, think Melrose is the team to beat..I'm looking forward to seeing Joe play up close..Saw him in the State tournament a couple years ago..Dyer Co is young but they have a lot of talent also and speed as well..And the atmosphere for these type of games are unbelievable..Good to see you posting again.. No one gave us a chance against BTW who was a very strong Memphis team at the time. So we will see if we can make believers out of the none believers, Monday night. I think Ced is going to be a key player in this game. He has, in my opinion, grown in just the past two weeks, to be a very strong player inside. In the past two games, he has been a beast. We also need to get Hudson going, he has been a none factor in the past three games. If he's not on, then go to the bench. No one has said anything about White Station's bench. Do they have good player comming off the bench? I do know one thing we don't lose anything when we go to the bench.
  2. The TSSAA passes end after the regionals..I heard they sold about 600 tickets today around 3 o'clock. Just a little footnote: Theses two teams have played each other before, this year. They played each other in a basketball clinic earlier in the year. I believe White Station won by 5 pts. It will be interecting to see how much both teams have improved. The different atmosphere will be big in my opinion. The crowd will be big, and loud. If DC can keep it close, the fans will bring them to victory.
  3. No, I don't think the refs. were cheating. Just alot of calls were going DC's way is all I'm saying. I promise you in our gym that normally doesn't happen. Some players were getting hammered on both ends of the court and not a foul was called. Then a player would just touch someone and the whistle would blow. Now, that's what I don't like. We probly shot more freethrows in that game, than in any game this year. The ref that was making all the calls, usually calls against DC. Believe me I know, because he has called alot of our games this year , and I usually lose my voice yelling at him...lol.
  4. Bolton is a very, very good team. They played a great game last night in Newbern. Just didn't shoot well enough down the stretch. Bolton comitted alot of fouls, that hurt them badly. It's a good thing Dyer Co. hit their foul shots or they could have easily lost this one. I'm a Dyer Co. fan, but I do believe DC got some home cookin going their way last night. This doesn't happen often at DC. Not taking away a great win for DC, just the way I saw it. Bolton was very patient and very good ball handlers. They played their game in the first half, but let Dyer Co. take it to them in the second half. The game was alot closer than the score indicated. " GO BIG ORANGE"
  5. Northside wins 71-70...Prather hits a stickback with one second left on clock....
  6. I believe Dyer Co. will host Bolton this year. They seem to be the weakest team of all in District 14 AAA. "GO BIG ORANGE". Not bashing Bolton, just looking at the stats, you can see for yourself they are the weakest link.
  7. Someone please post the score of last night's district game between Brighton vs Munford girls. Thanks!!!
  8. Who won between Munford vs Brighton girls last night? Someone please post the score!!!!! Thanks!!
  9. I'm all for the running and even shooting the three's..But there is such a thing as a good 3 point shot and a bad 3 point shot..A good shot is when you are open..a bad one is because we're winning by 20 points..not going to hurt if I shoot 20 feet from the 3 point line and someone on me..and don't hit the rim.As a matter of fact Leron Garrett hit about 4 in a row last night..I like the running and the pressing..The only thing I dont like or want to see is..give the ball to the guards..we lose at least 12 shot attempts because the bigger guys can't handle the ball..That could be 10 extra points if the coach is paying attention..And hustle and play defense..Not slack off when you get a 19 point lead. And I played for Coach Clennon Dailey..The years I played..Lake Co was one of the top programs in the state for several years with the Belk boys..Charles Rice and Jimmy Ray Robinson..Kenton had Aaron Mays and Trenton was loaded with Buddy Sorrel,Ricky Jackson,Dave Lutter and Bailey..So..Lake Co did have some good teams before Whitby.. I guess these guys that post that Lake County didn't have good boys basketball teams before coach Whitby are just not as old as we are bigster. You mentioned some of them but don't forget Russell's father and John Michaeal Clay. They were pretty good too. Steve Speed also won here. In my opinion Coach Whitby has had more talent to work with since he has been here, more than other coach we have had in the past. Enough talent to at least get to one state tournament. I think that at this point in time the girls coach is the best coach in Lake county. He has taken two teams to the state tournament. And in my humble opinion the boys team that went to state didn't have the talent we have had since Coach Whitby has been here. He has had the players. Does anyone argue with that. The question is does he get the most out of his players? I don't think so. I watched Rafael take 3 layup attempts last night against Fulton city and wasn't looking at the basket either time. He missed all three. Is that not a teachable moment. I didn't see any teaching afterwards. I guess if you are satisfied with having all of this talent that we have had since the coach has been here and we keep winning 20 to 30 games a year then we should be satisfied. There is goodness in our teams but I believe that there is greatness in them if we can get everything out of them that is possible. I don't think we are getting the most out of our players. I think at this point in time there are coaches that get the most out of their players. I don't think the 2009 coach Whitby does. He also has the most hands off approach to coaching I have ever seen during a game. Was he like that at Central? I always heard he was fire breather. People may not believe this but I think that even with all the wins our teams have underachieved since he has been here. Lots of wins but no championship hardware to show for it. Why is that? I will end this post the way I started it ................Coach Whitby has had the talent. That s what I'm talking about..This team has talent..but the shots you mentioned..with coaching..this team can be a lot better..What worries me most about this team is we could have a 4 point lead with 40 seconds to play and have the ball and I'm not sure we have the mentality or coaching to not jack up a 3 ball..I'd hate to lose a gegion game and not advance because of a poor choice..Same about the foul situations I keep talking about..A coach should know and tell his team what to do late in the game..He has to be aware of this..I was a freshman when Steve Speed was here..As for the team I played with for Coach Dailey..the first year..Donald Moore ..Samson Purdy..Bobby Maze..Mike Haskell..Belk..Leroy Taylor..The next year James and Charles Belk..Joe Cheers and Bobby Maze..Jimmy Ray Robinson and Charles Rice.Pretty good talent..And had coaching..Coach Dailey wouldnt have put up with some of the shots like you talked about..unless maybe he had a 20 point lead late in the game.! Now, Mr. Big, Coach Whitby might be putting them boys through these game situations for a reason. He might be wanting to know how they react to certain situations. Wanting to know who he can count on in a clutch situation. He is smarter tham the average bear.
  10. Mr. Big ...Has Lake Co. started recruiting in Ill. now...lol...Transfers are not suppose to start till after Christmas Break. Coach Whitby knows better than that.
  11. I don't have a dog in this fight, but here are my picks: Just my 2 cents worth. 1. Martin Westiew- Reason {all starters are back.} 2. Gibson Co.- Reason {3 top scorers back} 3. Obion Co.- Reason { Chasidy Fuzzell & supporting cast } Thats my story & I'm sticking to it!!!! I wished Dyer Co. was in this district, because it's the cream of the crop in West Tenn. With our improvement we could easily be No. 4.
  12. Dyer Co. jumped out to an early lead 19-2 , before LA could blink an eye. LA did close the gap when the subs came in, but that was erased when the starters came back, to seal the deal. Dyer Co. has alot of depth on the bench. They are going to run teams ragged. You better have alot of depth on your bench to keep up with them. Dyer Co. has fresh legs on the court every 3 minutes. That will wear a team down in a hurry. It's going to be tuff for Dyer Co. to win their district with Jackson NorthSide, Hardin Co., and Brighton. We will see how these young men progress. Dyer Co. only has 3 seniors on the team, the rest are underclassmen. But they don't play like it. P.S. Dyer Co. beat Millington tonight 99-61. Millington had 13 seniors on the team. That to me speaks volumes!!!!!
  13. I have watched the Dyer County girls play. They have improved tremendously. They are going to win some ballgames this year and surprise alot of folks. They are pressing and scoring alot of points. McCord has done a fantastic job with the girls over the passed few weeks. They look more confident and know what to with the ball, when they get it. They have played two games and he plays alot of girls. He has emptyed the bench in both games. Dyer County girls are going to make some noise in their District.... They are not going to be an easy team to beat, as in years past.
  14. Anyone know who is playing in this Tournament? & @ What time?
  15. Great job Westview!!!! You pulled off the biggest upset of the week.
  16. This game could be a blowout or it could be close. In recent years Dyersburg has been heavy favorite and end up in a dog fight. When it's a big rivalry, you never know whats going to happen, that is why you play the game. If DC can stop the running game of Dyersburg, which will be a tall task, it could be a very close game. I'm not going to predict this one, I'm just going to watch and see what happens. May the best team win!!!! Good Luck to both teams, and I hope the injuries are held in check.
  17. Dyer Co. vs Milan- I pick Milan in a close one. Lake Co. vs Halls- I pick Lake Co. by two TDs. Dyersburg vs Fayette Ware - Dyersburg by two or more TDs.
  18. The problem with the attendance is Memphis. When the Memphis teams win the attendance will be down, because the Memphis folks will not support them, period.
  19. When you are at the top of your game there is always someone, who is trying to drag you down. canadian, it's not going to work in this thread. You are not going to steal out thunder. The Choctaws are 2AA Champs and you can not take it away from us no matter how you slice it. So the best thing for you to do is move on to the next thread.
  20. Give me a break!!! That statement was uncalled for.
  21. Yes, I agree with you 100%, the Trojans were there for us, also at thr Knox game as well. They were not cheering , but that is understandable. Sometimes you have to swollow your pride and do the right thing. They did that and then some more. They even came down to congradulate the Choctaws after the game. I know it took a lot for them to do that, and I for one commend them for doing that. I tip my hat to Dyersburg coaches and players for showing what sportsmanship is all about. Dyersburg coaches, fans, and players should hold their heads up high, because they were just a few miscues away from being in the final game with us.
  22. I also just got back and all I can say is" WOW". What a preformance theses guys put on today. I'm so proud of theses guys I don't know what to do. They looked like the No1 team in the state today, and they proved it. Knoxville Cath. tried to keep us off balance and the did for half of the game. When the junk pitcher got in trouble with walks and hitting batters and was pulled out of the game, the Choctaw Tommyhawks got busy. I can't say enough about the freshman Harris, pitching in the State Championship game. He was lights out, most of the game. Not only did he win this game but also won an earlier game in the week. I don't know how anyone else feels about that, but that is awsome. JP Patterson did a fine job too winning two games himself. The team got together and decided this was a business trip not a pleasure trip. Great Job guys and you Seniors, Thanks for the memories.
  23. Yes, one game, winner takes the Gold Ball home!!!!!
  24. I like Dyersburg's chances in this one. McMinn may have used up some valuable pichers in the first game. This could really be a close one.
  25. OK, what does everyone think on this game? I like Dyer County's chances in this one. They played to a tie at the end of regulation earlier this year. I believe it was a 5-5 tie.
