  1. Congrats to Austin Mann for setting a new D.B. wins record tonite. 152 career wins, great now make a great run in Feb. and get a state title. Great job Austin. Congrats to brother Adam for getting a win tonite. Two great and very nice young men hard work really works, good job guys.
  2. On all levels wrestling is not growing. Take a look at the Natl. numbers, there are more teams which means more competitors. Divide the number of teams last year by the competitors, do the same for the current year and you will see the number of competitors per team is down. The sport grows by having people involved, not just quality people, but bodies.
  3. Is it time to split D-1 into small and large for individual state. Would this help wrestling grow among the smaller schools. We have 160 plus teams I believe, is it something to look at, would it help this great sport in Tn. it seems to have helped in surrounding states. Just a thought.
  4. Mr. Shot great post, wrestling fans are sometimes like cannibals they destroy there own. I truly believe this attitude really hurts our sport.
  5. NJ, Cal. Ill. Tn. all have one class for public schools. Cal. has one class for all schools. Ky. has one class I believe if you went and talked to the state champions they don't care if there are more than one class. I have a friend who was a 2 time champion at Grundy high school in Va. I asked him one day at a tournament if it bothered him that he was the 2-A champion, knowing there was a 1-A and a 3-A champion. I did this because there were 5 or 6 or us having a discussion about different divisions, most there felt you had to have one true champion. Of course my friend said that it did not bother him having other champions. Of course the people it bothered had never won a state championship with or without divisions. My son was a two time medalist never won it, I did ask him one day, he said it did not bother him. My son did say he was glad that public was all one division.
  6. I know Kole fairly well and he will talk to anybody. We looked down from the Sully East section and he was in the fisrt Bradley Picture of what looked to be the Bradley family. He is a great kid who is a 3.70+ GPA student and a pretty good actor in local and school plays.I believe he has the role of Wilber in the up coming prodution of Charlottes Web. Most of all he has never meet a stranger and he is very funny.
  7. There only advantage is they are both very very good.
  8. This is the best year in a few for reg. 1 in 2007 we had 10 medalist this year with seven that was about what we had the last two years combined. Great job gentleman you represented yourself your schools your coaches and your region with class. Jocob Mathes fell 1 match short and was in every match worked his tale off great job. Jordy Hall went down fighting. Mr. [Piggy] Jerimiah Simms was also oh so close great job. Mr. Matt King lost both matches by 2or 3 points total to Gardner 1st and Browning 3rd. murderous weight class. All of or wrestlers looked good. Close to 70% of our wrestlers wrestled after the 1st round either in the second or 1st round Cons. CONGRATS to Kole looked great all week and dominating in the finals. Mr. Mann great job. Look for both of you on top of the podium in 2010. John Herold was a wrecking crew the X Man looked great Fleming wrestled well. Shipley came with in an eye lash of the finals. Usary would have been high if not for an injury. WE LOVE YOU KOLE THE POTTERS /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  9. The 1st call was hands to the face, the second call was an elbow the last two were the head gear. The last two were very quick. Ofori does put his hands in the face a lot, but up until the finals it wasn't called. They should have stopped the match and talked to the wrestlers a little, this looked almost planned. I am not a Cleveland fan or hater, just didn't look right. I am sure Mr. White did not want to win this way. The ref did a poor job of communicating it looked like to most in my area.
  10. Adam Mann 112 took Matt King to 3 OT before loosing in reg 1 final. Tremendous match: has a win over Larue from Halls. Not ranked or even mentioned to watch. He is a hard nosed tough kid, who if he is on will place. 112 has 7 returning medalist in the bracket.
  11. I think the problem most people have is there is not consistency. We have a ref in our region who calls fast pins, but he does it all the time a coach or a fan can put up with that because they know that he will call pins fast all the time. We have other refs who take as much as 5 to 7 seconds for most teams, but all the coaches know this, the fans my not understand and see inequities. This creates not trusting that official. I have been involved and around wrestling since 1972, I can say that in all the matches I have watched and coached in probably 25 different states from age group AAU and USA to the Olympics, I have seen officials cost a wrestler a match probably less than 10 times. I did see officials determine the out come of matches two times this weekend, and one time cost the wrestler the match. Also I saw more points awarded this weekend then taken off than I can remember ever seeing. i saw stalling and feeling called at the same time that was a new one to me I saw stalling called in the overtime ride out period, i know this can happen, its that they never call it. I do think the coaches should vote on who calls the region not the refs decide, all but a few coaches in region 1 do not have favorite refs. We do have ok officiating overall, but some of these guys need to go work matches with guys like Don Elsea and Huffington and a few refs like that those guys are very good. I do think the refs and coaches do have a decent relationship in reg. 1, but we do need more of the younger guys to get lic. and start calling. Reece Wheeler does a very good job the times I have seen him. Brad Robbins was doing well, but he took up coaching and seems to be doing well at that. Its easy to say the official cost a wrestler a match, but that is rarely the case. In one of the above mentioned matches that I believe a ref made a really bad call that changed the outcome of a match the loosing wrestler got tilted with 10 seconds left for 2 to tie the score and send it to OT that was the wrestlers fault not the refs. Wrestling is a sport of karma, the other wrestler had probably worked his tale off to be there this weekend and he won, because I know the loosing wrestlers lack of work caught up with him. Fate is a cruel creature. Even though I believe the officiating could be a whole lot more consistent, don't look to always blame the refs for johnnys, jimmys, losses. All most always it is the wrestlers fault 99.9% of the time.
  12. Always remember officals are always right just ask one, or just ask clint pay your money and you go call. Remember never wrong.
  13. Zack Potter was 5th 2006 and 3rd in 2007. On friday the last day of the state that year, he weighed in at 221 never weighed much over 235 in 06 and at state weighed 228. He also was only 5'8". I believe noons was a medalist back in the days of UNL. and might have weighed 200 on a fat day. It can be done, just have to understand how to move the mountains.
  14. Reg 3 and 4 are the best. But is it best for our sport to always have them 1,2,3, or what ever. We must have a system in place and stick to it usually that involves regions which are set up by location of the schools. This happens in all sports football, basketball, baseball all sports. There is always someone at the house that is better that the worst. Should wrestling be any different. This attitude is killing college wrestling, and will hurt Tn. high school wrestling if it is allowed to set the rules.
  15. Any one have any predictions on winners and the team race.
  16. I know the seeding meeting was today. What happened, here is what I know. !03 Auman Bn. 1 112 King G. 1 Mann DB. 2 Goldstien SH 3 119 Wilson SE 1 Pearce SH 2 125 Mann DB 1 130 Bishop SE 1 Neece DC 2 Snyder SH 3 Riptoe MW 4 Bailey Bn. 5 Richardson Eliz. 6 135 Herold MW 1 140 Usary SH. 1 145 Bishop SE 1 Churchman JC 2 Stull SH 3 !52 Myers G 1 Shipley MW 2 Pearce Eliz. 3 160 Watkins JC. 1 Erwin DB. 2 171 King TH. 1 Watkins JC. 2 !89 Carter DB. 1 215 Montgomery Bn. 1 Lewis SH. 2 Coggins Eliz. 3 285 Fleming DB. 1 Sims G 2 Feathers BN 3 Anyone give us a complete listing. Some of these were well, I don't know who beat who. I saw Erwin beat Watkins pretty bad at region duals. Bailey 130 has beat the 2nd seed twice in the last month. But I don't know who beat who over the course of the season.
  17. They are always people not happy with tourney out comes and seeding. It was proved on the Mat and BC won with the Raiders second. SD third and That Purple team 4th. The 4 best last weekend. Congrats to all who made it to the dance. A good weekend for TN. wrestling.
  18. Let the TSSAA come up with suitable locations through out the state. In the Tri-Cities Duals could be held at Viking Hall or Freedom Hall. The individual could be held at the Mini-Dome. Dobynes-Bennett could host the dual maybe the individual. Middle Tn. has locations at MTSU Vandy. Many other locations. Knoxville has 6or8 also, Memphis has a bunch. You could move the tournaments no problem, it would allow other schools to save on travel some years, and make money off of the events as does Soddy Daisy and Clarksville and who knows who else.
  19. Bayou are U crazy are you forgetting the No. 1 rule in wrestling if you do not FINISH 1ST you are nothing Thats why I believe next year only let 5 or 10 coaches vote and take only 2 teams to Clarksville. Also at individual state only give out a 1st place medal, this would save money, better yet lets let the coaches vote again and invite only 2 wrestlers in each weight class and the looser not only gets nothing ,but gets 40 lashes {motivation, under pressure}. Then we will see who that one TRUE CHAMPION is. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  20. So it looks like we need to keep 14 classes and keep the number of FF cause 25% of the schools fill all the weight classes. I wish we could have 15 classes or more. I wish every team had 25 to 35 kids on the team. I wish everyone had a set practice area, I wish everyone had total support from there school. I wish everyone had a Jr. High program and a AAU program. I wish everyone had 4 coaches on there staff and a strength coach, and a conditioning coach. I wish that all coaches worked 10 to 12 months a year on the mats and at camps and off season tournaments. I also wish we lived a perfect world.
  21. Lefty said it right Etown55. Quit setting yourself up, show up do the work don't talk about it; cause talk is cheap, and most people who run there mouth are broke. {can not back it up} /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  22. Lefty is right let your work on the MAT do your talking. Etown52 have you won anything or done something grand. Let your work stand for you not your mouth. Talk is and has always been cheap. Greenback had no reason to move around U as far as being afraid, Coach I am sure had his reasons.
  23. Sounds like U want the hook-up. Telling me where you are at everyday. I bet thats the reason U wrestle. U like the attention. Stay off your back. /bored.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bored:" border="0" alt="bored.gif" /> /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  24. Etown52 I bet she beats U. Cause U can only run your mouth. Can't back it up. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  25. Etown52 U need to put a lid on it,no one from greenback is afraid of U. U need to stop talking and do it on the MAT. When U win Region and State then U can run your mouth. Until then shut-up.
