  1. Good One!!! Actually we were probably penalized more than anyone with rediculous calls. The Zebras definitely kept Meigs in the game and no matter how much T-Mac whines, we had 1 more penalty than Howard!! This is an area that will be worked on this year!!
  2. In addition to these comments, all her stats are the result of being on floor only about a half in most of her games. Coach Morgan plays a 10 player rotation and with the blowouts, the starters are not playing nearly as many minutes as most of these other girls.
  3. Kylie Lambert AA McMinn Central has to be considered. All State last year as a Sophmore. Leads team in scoring and assists this year on the team that is presently AP No. 1
  4. I agree with Gator Bill on this one. Try to defuse it first BUT let the coach know get control or walk!!
  5. If you saw these young ladies all dressed up, you would understand the fashion show. Not only can they play some ball, they are all very attractive when they get decked out! It is good to lower the stress level some and have some fun!
  6. Sorry Mr. Ref, I guess I didn't answer those questions. My answer would be that a warning should be issued first and if those comments were repeated during the game, then toss him/her. I have always felt that if the coach is in the box or on the bench and has not gotten abusive with the first comment, then you should always warn him that he crossed the line. 95% of the time this solves the problem and doesn't get the crowd involved, which you and I both know can be way more distracting than the coach!! BTW, thanks for your input, I agree with GatorBill in that you are probably one of the better officials!!
  7. I just thought it was a little on the tight side. I have coached a couple of sports on different levels and it is amazing the difference in what will get you tossed. Baseball you can come on the field and argue a call without being tossed, but don't cuss and leave when the ump asked you to. In football you can rant and rave but you have to really go off the deep end to get tossed. In basketball you are telling me that raising your hands will get you tossed? That is why I felt it was kinda tight. The best official I was ever around, both playing and coaching missed calls too, BUT when a coach made a comment he would sometimes get up next to them and tell them," I might have missed that one, now calm down" In almost every case, the coach would grin and sit down. He didn't have "rabbit ears" and would warn a coach before hitting him with the "T".
  8. Our program is very competitive in AA at the State level. For the past 10 or so years, almost all of our better players have been a product of local camps and a very good AAU program.
  9. Isn't this a little tight on numbers 1 and 2? It used to be: 1) addressing an official personally, "Hey Jim that really stunk!" not "that was a bad call" 2) Act in a threatening manner like your number 4 and 5 3) any use of profanity That is what we were always told would get you tossed!!!
  10. Both Howard and Central return a ton of players, especially skill players, they should be a lock for two of the playoff spots. Sequoyah has to compete with Polk, Meigs, and N. D. for the last two spots. Polk lost a lot this year BUT their young players are pretty tallented. Meigs also lost some key players but always seem to put players on the field that will fight you for 48 minutes. Don't know what N. D. will return, but here you have one of the best coaches in the Region. It will be interesting in 2008!!
  11. T-Mac, if you will go back to the game stats, you will see that the flag tossing was pretty equal on both sides. The Chargers got very physical during the second half, just like the Polk game. I had a friend who was behind the Howard bench during the fourth quarter and he told me there were a lot of Tigers sucking wind and on the ground being attended to with their injuries. Face it, Central didn't lay down in the second half like in the past years, they just got stronger. There is a new day in Charger Land!
  12. Losing Ryan is a big hole to fill not only his running ability but in his leadership. The bright side is that there are returners with a lot af ability and a young man who missed this year with a broken leg that says he will be back. He was special as a freshman year before last. He was the one bright spot at Howard that year. Barring injury to a couple of key players, Central's defense should be better also.
  13. Score is correct, and believe it or not, the score was not run up!! The starting 5 played less than a half for Central. The former coach at McMinn really left the cubbard bare, no one wants to play over there any more.
  14. Rayl is pretty good but it was Howie Meadows that made that passing attack go. My opinion is he was one of the top 2 recievers in the region this year. Big plays when you needed them and played hard for the entire game
  15. Some way some how our girls have got to see some better competition to make the drive to the Boro. The district is the weakest I have ever seen it and with us only carrying 11 players, who can all play, the "Mercy Rule" is being applied fairly regular. I know it is frustrating for the other coaches but when our second five is getting as much floor time as the first five, you can't hold down the score.
  16. ENOUGH WITH "THE LIVING LEGEND STATUS" ! There are very few Living Legends out there and Coach Price isn't one of them. Please reserve this title for those who really deserve it!!
  17. You got that right!! The drop off after these two teams is dramatic. They know our fans will be there no matter who we play.
  18. I wish I could have seen that!! I knew Coach Grider and have met Vic, what a class bunch of people. I had a tear reading about the "play". What a great tribute to Coach Grider during a majical season. Congrats Vic and to all the Pirates!!
  19. Central takes Tellico by 30 and the officials didn't let me down either!! Total fouls were.....drum roll please.......38!! I hate it when I'm am right! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Tellico has a pretty good team but the bench strength of Central was way too much. Tellico only goes about 7 deep where Central goes 10 deep in their rotation and flat out wore down Tellico. The foul situation didn't help them either.
  20. Over/Under on fouls for this game should be about 38 !! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  21. No question, it is McMinn Central!! A large crowd every night, Students have their own section where they stand the entire game. Students "paint up" EVERY game too!! Pep Band, a Dance Team that is second to none in the state, it doesn't get any better that this!! Ask anyone that comes to the "Charger Dome", they will tell you the same!
  22. Thanks for your input, hopefully more folks will read this and understand your job is not easy. I wish some of the other officials had your head on their shoulders during games, maybe games would be better. Very well stated by your side of the business! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  23. Denton, do you guys discuss the game during half time? for instance, "whew, that was a bunch of fouls" or if it is getting too physical, do you plan to adjust the game? Another question, why does TSSAA discourage communication. If I was a coach, I would appreciate being told "we are going to tone it down some, or tell your kids to watch the hand checks" etc. You don't have to be "chummy" on the floor but it doesn't hurt to communicate. Just curriosity questions, trying to learn what the good officials do. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  24. No can of worms, this post was started to get some discussion going on officiating. It is obvious you are an official and you may be one of the good ones and I do know some good officials. I was hoping some of you folks would respond and join the discussion. I am not bashing officials, we need you, it just the inconsistancies are really getting out of hand. As stated in an earlier post, one official calling 3/4 of all the fouls in one game is pretty sad. Actually the next game Central played was one of the better games I have seen called, then they go to McMinn this past monday and it was another very poor game (brawl) that occured. Again, someone, needs to step up with leadership and teach the the new, poor, officials so they can get better. Some don't understand, the games they are not noticed are the best games they call. Thanks for your input.
  25. If you have 2 officials who hustle and want to do the job right, they are in position and their are no dead areas, it worked for a lot of years!! I know the comeback, the game is faster! I watch a lot of games and until recently, only district games around here were required three officials, all others were two. I swear that the two officials on the floor did a better job!! I know a number of retired officials and the vast majority of these folks agree with this opinion. The key observation is that with three, they get lazy.
