There are money considerations here for a school that is already scrambling to cut payroll. Many late career, 30+ year McCallie faculty have already been offered early retirement. While I'm guessing Bubba will get a decent little raise, they'll still be filling two spots with one pay check.

What's the deal with no dugouts at Ensworth? They certainly seem to have deep pockets when it comes to some other programs and the quality of the field itself is excellent.

Ensworth isn't going to lose. They are loaded, well coached, and the best team in DII-AA. They were the best team in the Middle/East in football and they didn't make it to the finals. That's why it's an upset. I doubt that Net-worth will lose, but if anyone could pull it off in this round it would be Austin Clark.

MBA doesn't "let kids in for academic reasons" like Ensworth does, thus, having to actually qualify and meet the same standards as everyone else that chooses to apply, I don't think Orleans would be accepted. The post you quoted was obviously a joke considering he is a senior. Also, posts like this are unwanted and unwelcome. Check your split infinitives and that/who issues before claiming academic purity.

It sort of depends on what time you're coming into town. I have often done the 840 option, but I'm not really sure which is faster. For the most part, if you do I-24 to 440 you're going against the flow of rush hour traffic. If you do this, I would get off at the West End exit and muscle the rest of the way through on West End/Harding/Hwy100. If you try to do I-40 all the way to Bellevue, it often turns into a parking lot from 5:00-6:00. 840 is definitely the prettier way to go and maybe less congested overall.

After made shot: run of the baseline. Any dead ball (other than a stoppage after a bucket): pivot foot as is the case inbounds. Not always enforced with consistency, especially if the inbounder doesn't move from his basic spot.

Here's a question for those more in the know than I am. Any chance that Flatt's retirement timing, followed by immediate consideration of another opportunity, has something to do with the renewal of the BA v. TSSAA case in front of the Supreme Court? I'm assuming that my first thought is more on the mark, in that Coach Flatt has nothing more to prove or accomplish in his tremendous career. But then the court case rears its ugly head again and I remember how Coach Flatt stepped away from football at BA the last time the lawyers were having their fun. Please understand that I realize that I am so far distanced from specifics that at best all I'm doing is blowing mildly fragrant smoke out of my hind quarters. Anyone have any informed thoughts about this?

There is indeed a fair amount of unfortunate cockiness amongst the DII folk, as well as unfortunate resentment toward many exceptionally good people who work at the DII level. But there is really more in common between the goals of DI and DII schools and their athletic programs than there are the elements that we let divide us. It's about doing the right thing for the development of high school kids. That sermon out of the way, McCallie will most likely conduct an "exhaustive national search and seriously consider many extremely attractive unsolicited applicants." Then they'll go after the candidate(s) that they already decided they had wanted to get.

I've been unactive for a few years as a coach in the Chattanooga area, but over the past decade-plus, there have been some very good umpires in the association. I know I'll leave someone out, and a few on my list have retired, but these were always consistent, fair, and hard-working. Harley Grant Ron Priddy Eddie Brown Chambers The Guy Who Yells Out EVERY Pitch, ball or strike. Others, whose names I forget, were very solid. You know who you are. You could always tell who the umps were that were having fun on the job, without trying to be the focal point of the event. Yeah, there are always those in every profession who are in it for the wrong reasons, those who don't work at their craft hard enough to stay where they need to be, but on balance there was never any need to start any full-scale, general railing. If you are a player, coach, or a fan, and you enter the "arena" thinking that you're fixin' to get screwed, then you're already a bit defeated, yourself.
