  1. Brandon is too spectacular of an athlete to play fullback, that would be a major under utilization of his talent. Yes he would undersized but he will still be the best tight end on the volunteers roster next season. Dallas Clark of the Indianapolis Colts is only 6'3" like Brandon, and they share a similar skill set with exceptional speed and route running for their posistion. Chris Cooley of the Washington Redskins is also 6'3" and again posses attributes similar to Brandon. The H-Back or slot on occasion would be a great way to utilize Brandon just like Joe Gibbs and Tony Dungy have utilized their uber talented but smaller playmakers. As for his size potentialy being a detriment to his blocking if anyone watched the Miami FSU game two years ago Brandon shut down Calais Campbell, a 6'8" 290 lb DE who was drafted in the second round by Arizona. Campbell was probably the most physical end in college football last season and never did anything when Brandon was responsible for blocking him.
  2. Maryville wins and its not even a contest, George Quarles does not loose. Aloca would play them closer given the opporunity for a rematch but George is too smart to let them win. MBA might give them a decent game but Maryvile wins. As for Symrna, they would not be able to out game plan Quarles, and of theese three teams they would experience the most significant margin of deafeat I don't believe they could keep within 17 points in a game that Quarles had to win. As for the rest of the state, they might as well not show up.
  3. Ok 30 years ago milan beat Maryville you informed us of that two posts ago but that has nothing to do with the fact that Milan can not play with Alcoa Today, Milan can not even play with the other team in 2A, Goodpasture. So now please tell us why Milan can beat Alcoa without mentioning a team that consists of players born prior to the Watergate Scandal.
  4. It is about time some else agrees with me I've been expressing that very same sentiment since I started posting on here, but why stop with the 2008 playoffs? Could we not go ahead and declare Alcoa state champs in AAA for at least the next three years under the new playoff format, then we could review their dominance and decide how long extend their reign once again. Now of course they would allow other teams to play them during the regular season so that colleges could scout their atheletes but keeping score would not be necessary against region opponents
  5. I do not believe for one second that cermak ran 4.39, Heritage players year in year spout off inflated workout numbers and have nothing on the field to show for it. Last year one of their players told me that whoever that fast reciever they had was, ran a 4.27, if that were true he would have been running on a Division I track scholarship in college, not to mention the copious number of players I was told who benched 400 and 500+ pounds but some how could not manage to protect their QB. It is not just Heritage that stretch their numbers but they do do it more than anyone else, the only player in recent years to run a legit sub 4.4 in Blount County is James Rainer at Alcoa and he ended up placing eleventh in the NCAA track championships in the 100M. And yes any player with quality ability who chooses to wear the effeminate blue of the mountainers is a waste of football tallent. Not only is it a waste but it is unfortunate for the player, he could be a quality fullback at Alcoa or Maryville and win three or four state titles. Not to mention the extra college exposure he would get because lets face no big program would even consider visiting a Heritage Practice. There is also the numerical side of exposure at Alcoa or Maryville heritage plays ten games a season Alcoa and Maryville play fifteen over a four year career that is twenty more games that colleges can see him play. The best case scenario for him at Heritage is during his career he wins 15 total games and earns a FCS level scholarship.
  6. Vanderbilt "v" Hambrick is the first that comes to mind, he has incredible speed agility and vision, watching him in middle school he did very similar things to what Ronald Osborne did during his stint at AMS, his size may prevent his talent from transistioning as quickly to the high school level but I would expect his sheer athleticism to afford him opportunities to carry the ball. John Tucker Rankin the son of Gary Rankin Played Center and Linebacker at AMS but is more likely to play OL/DL for the high school he is very strong and knows the game very well and makes good decisions. Of the upcoming Freshmen I would see him as the most physically ready to play. His name escapes me but there is a gigantic Tight end who has good hands but may need to add some meat to his frame, he is about 6'5"...I think his name is shone or something similar to that. He is tallented enough to play but his style is similar to Tyler Robinson and at this point Tyler is Better so he will probably not see much action in 08. He could immediately contribute on the hardwood for the Tornadoes. A second RB/DB Tre Tate is a skilled runner similar to "V", but not quite as good, maybe a step slower and agility that is just behind Hambrick. He still plays at a high level and could provide depth in the secondary and contribute on special teams
  7. No he has not grown at a exorbitant rate that listing you saw was simply wrong He has be been a legitimate 6'4" since the eighth grade and he was approximately 250 lbs last year. But you are correct as long as he continues to develope strength and speed he will be the next elite DE to come out of Alcoa.
  8. So if little can be gained from beating the best 2A school ever, than the alternative schedule must be greatly advantageous for the govs allowing them to hone their football skills against a much more arduous schedule, and this schedule would then prepare them to beat those big bad 5A playoff teams that had continually beaten them when Alcoa was on the schedule. And of course that is propitious for William Blount. but wait a second that didn't happen, William Blount dropped a 2A team and is still as mediocre as ever, so "doc" what was gained from this scheduling change if there is nothing to be gained from beating up on Alcoa. Your point about Scott Meadows leaving under poor circumstances is fallacious. Mr. Meadows decided he wanted to coach at the college level and Alcoa understood his aspirations. Now his feelings may have been hurt when Alcoa would not rehire him after he realized GA's don't make enough money to sustain a family, but that is purely speculation. and all having a 7-3 team not make the playooffs does is prove the point I was making about your region, all of you are average 5A teams that have accomplished nothing you are all as a good as the next but no one in your region is spectacular. Two things make a good team, Talent and Coaching that is it. Nine out of ten times the better team will win the footbal game. For you to say Talent does not make a good team is doltish in 02 and 03 the William Blount was the more tallented team and they won and once again congratulaitions. I am just curious what does make a good team if it is not talent. William Blount has never won anything you are the least accomplished school in the county. Thats right Heritage has a more prestigous football past than you their Stadium is named after Jack Renfro the former Walland Coach who won two state championships with walland before his school was consolidated into Heritage where he would continue his coaching career, so yes even the mountaieers have more gold balls than you.
  9. I do apologize, that is quite embarrassing I guess I will have to start proofreading before I post to prevent such improprieties from happening again, but spelling has always been the greatest foible of my ventures through academia.
  10. As I am sure that you are aware their were approximately thirty penalties called on Alcoa in the 2004 match up because the state's head of officiating was in attendence to observe the crew calling the contest. In this match up, as I am sure you remember Alcoa had two fifty plus yard scoring plays called back on petty penalties twenty yards away from the play. Alcoa's offense was so statisticly dismal because they most progress was hinderd due to this refereeing debacle. That is solely why Alcoa did not win by forty not because William Blount was a remotely competitive footbal team. In 2003 you won and congratulations, but I probably should point out that this was the first year John Reid was coaching the Tornadoes after his stint with William Blount, and I'm sure that the Blount staff was well versed in Reid's play calling and tendencies. In 2002 you beat the worst team Alcoa has ever put on the field and once again congratulations you were victorious over a bad 2A team. I still don't understand why you think 5A is so much better than the other classifications, when was the last time someone in your region won a state title? I believe it was Oak Ridge in the mid 90's, so obviously you are not going up against the zenith of 5A competition during the season, nor are you in the playoffs because you so rarely make it out of the first round. You have no way of accurately gauging top tallent in 5A because you don't play against it. But a good way to gauge tallent in this area is to see what schhols are producing major division one signees in recent years, so lets review that list Maryville (4a) Fulton (3a) Austin East (3a) Catholic (3a) Alcoa (2a) Loudon (2a) Powel(4a) Faragut (5a), I do not see many local 5a schools on this list so obviously major college football programs see better football players in the lower classifications. Solomon your line about docjeffandheather was one of the most brilliant things I have ever seen posted on this site. Bcsportsfan you might be surprised at the level of education one can recieve at the formerly blue building behind the duck pond.
  11. William Blount fans should never ever speak of how their "mighty" Govenors could have, in a hypothetical scenario, beaten Alcoa. Dropping Alcoa from your schedule was one of the greatest acts of pusillanimity in Football history, and in doing so the governors admitted they could not beat a 2A team and should never bring up such asinine remarks such as them even being equivilent in ability to Alcoa, much less that they are better. Even if William Blount was better, that act of cowardice in your scheduling forefeited your right to speak of Alcoa in a dimminutive manner becuase once again this scheduling faux pas was an acknowledgment that William Blount was not good enough to beat Alcoa. Your outrageous statements astound me I do not believe there is another team in the state that has never advanced past the second round of the playoffs that would even consider themselves of the same ilk as Alcoa. William Blount will always be The Cowards of the County /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  12. Volquest is reporting that Brandon Warren has been accepted to the Uinversity of Tennessee, hopefully he can mantain this progress and become a contributor for the Vols in the upcoming year.
  13. surely you are joking, Marshall County beat one team with a winning record and that was in the playoffs. As for Giles County they beat only one team with a winning record and that was Marshall County these do not appear to be the most arduous schedules, in fact they appear to be quite impuissant. Aloca defeated eight opponents with winning records this past season. Austin East who was third in region 2 3A Defeated five opponents with winning records, significantly more than the two teams you previously mentioned. Nice try but your region is not as skilled as you seem to believe. And if every dog has it's day when will Springhill's be, a single victory last season does not bring with it a favorable outlook for the future.
  14. Well actually just making the playoffs is very average, 54% of the teams in 3A will make the playoffs and beyond that 26% of 3A teams will advance to the second round that is better than a one in four chance which seems like pretty favorable odds to me. Is it really an accomplishment to be in 74th percentile? You should always expect more than that and definately be ashamed of anything less.
  15. Are you serious, one of the toughest regions in 3A, five teams in your region had a sub .500 record, the only good team in your region is David Lipscomb. Region 2 3A had two teams with a sub .500 record and they probably have two of the best three teams in 3A in Fulton and Knox Catholic, the third of the the three being Lipscomb. region two also has the uber athletic Austin East Roadrunners who would embarrass every one in region 5 with the exception of lipscomb. Your argument about Lawrence county and Columbia Central was surely in jest because one team was 3-7 and the other was 4-6. A team that does not have a winning record against this schedule should seriously consider dropping football.
  16. As long as the mighty Alcoa Tornadoes are on the schedule the best season Springhill can hope for is 9-1.
  17. On Mr. Fujita's scale an F5 is decribed by "incredible phenomena", so it will definately be a categorey 5 event that the fellows from white house will experience
  18. Now old warhorse four touchdowns is a little bit ridiculous, surely you meant that, that will be thhe Alcoa lead at the mid point of the contest.Well, contest probably is not the best phrase, how about: the manifestation of what football ability is, to the fans and team members of whitehouse high school, because this will not be a game it will be a Tornadoe highlight reel.
  19. Wow I am truly dumbfounded by this board. First of all slimpickins is spot on with his characterization of the dismal football played in Morgan county, but these judgements are being passed by a Rockwood fan, this I find risible. seriously what has Rockwood done, just being slightly better than the pitiful squads in morgan county is really nothing to boast about.
  20. Whitehouse may make a run at the state title but they have no chance of beating Alcoa, they will be blown off the field embarrassed and demoralized.
  21. by no means is the aforementioned Gary Rankin thieving from a competing squad of Football players but he is merely allegedly harboring a quaterback who has basically been cut by the Fulton Falcons.
  22. Now Starsnbars you have to remember that the folks at Alcoa are not as affluent as your comrades in the red and black, and the Tornadoes recruiting budget is an epigone of the Rebels. Additionaly the Tornadoe program simply can't bring in as much money as the Rebels, they only charge students $400 dollars tuition, and they also have to buy uniforms and equipment because they don't have that lucrative Nike deal. This lack of funding really hinders the recruitment of players outside of adjacent counties, limiting out of state recruiting to Swain & Grahm counties in North Carolina; neither of whom are by any stretch of the immagination producing the caliber of athelete the Tornadoes seek.
  23. Alcoa fans are dismissing the comments with a "ho-hum" attitude because this is not exciting news to Alcoa fans. Jock Stinson was capable of starting at Fulton but has run into trouble and no longer is capable of starting at Fulton. So why would Alcoa want stinson; he could be their number two reciever and might be able to help with defensive back depth but, those are not exactly things Alocoa would recruit. As for Bo Whitney he is an injury prone quaterback who if he shows up at Alcoa will have been enrolled at three schools in one year. Not to mention the fact there is no validity to the rumors of him transfering from South Carolina. There is also the fact that South Carolina is a little far away to recruit even for those dirty rotten Blount County schools
  24. Well I guess I should start refuting some of the asine statements you fellows are making. Highstandardsscout you mention wartburg was loaded with tallent in 2002, well that was the worst Alcoa team to take the field probably in the history of Alcoa High school, I believe six freshman started on offense and many more were significant contributors; I'm not sure how many started on defense but a very similar number. So when you actually analyze the game you beat the best JV team in the state that year, now I'm not excusing the loss it was still an embarassment and a black mark on Alcoa football but it is understanable. Getitango your first point about the game being close throughout the first half is in no way related to what I posted, I said the game was never in question; meaining starting at kickoff no one for Wartburg honestley thought they could win and no one for Alcoa thought they would loose. And be honest with yourself even when the game was close you knew Alcoa would turn it on and finish the bulldogs. As for point two, name one player alcoa has had in the past ten years that they have recruited. I want you to give me a name if you know so much about the recruiting process at Aloca, and if you know Aloca has recruited players illicitly why have you not turned them in to TSSAA. Now I will be the first to admit people associated with Alcoa have encouraged players to move to Alcoa but nothing illegal was done. As for tuition students at alcoa approximately 30% of the student body pays tuition at Alcoa. About 10% of the football team pays tuition, so yes most tuition students move to Alcoa for academics, look at test scores Alcoa is academicaly supperrior to Blount county schools. As for the "Blue chip" tranfer you speak of; a blue chip player is a player that is rated as a five star recruit by a recruiting service. Jock stinson is definateley not that, and would in all likelyhood not even start at Alcoa, and no one even knows if the kid from South Carolina will show up, but he is far from blue chip status anyway. SCW86 you mentioned correctley that Blount Conuty is a much larger system than Morgan County, the only flaw in that is Alcoa City has their own school system that has one high school one middle school and one elementary school, this is what allows Alcoa to be selective in the students they choose from the county to pay tuition. As for D1 signees not making it that is largely due to the academic rigors at Alcoa High School. Joei Fiegler made a 21 on his ACT but his GPA did not qualify for DI schools so he went a JC where he started at QB and punter for the #5 ranked NJCAA team in the nation and was selected first team all American as a freshman in JC. Brandon Warren was Freshman All america for the Florida Stae Seminoles but decided he needed to leave school to be with his ill mother (yes this was terrible timing but understandable) so he has had to work his way back into fotball but don't be surprised if he starts somewhere for UT this upcoming season. A few others have had academic problems similar to Fiegler where they had the test score but the GPA was not there simply because the school does not care about the future of its athletes. Oh and Kray you said you wanted to see Sunbright and Wartburg play city teams. No you don't Knox central, Fulton, Catholic, Austin East, Oak Ridge, Maryville, and Bearden would run circles all around your pitiful squads. I am truly amazed at how incognizant you are of your football teams tallent. But hey you might get lucky and beat a girl scout troop in state pillow fighting championships. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  25. Morgan players may be country boys but in my experience they are not hard hitting nor do they possess remotely impressive strength. I've seen Wartburg play Alcoa every year for the past several years and they are always small, weak, and slow. I remeber two years ago alcoa had to run a fullback dive every other play to keep the score within fifty by halftime. Last year was differnt because Alcoas secondary played stupid but the game was never in question. There is simply NO talent in Morgan County, the school should probably consider dropping the programs to save the respective schools three months of continual embarassment. I believe slimpickins described it best with the very accurate metaphor of pillow fighting.
