  1. You think the Ensworth time out side line meeting went like this: "HC- Coach Wade(OC), let's kneel down. OC- yeah, let's enjoy this win HC- I agree, no sense scoring, not good sportsmanship. OC- let's do it. HC- I'm going to put a few guys in for last play. OC- great HC- Johnson, Smith, Wilson, Matthews, White get in. OC- hey guys we are going to kneel, just protect the ball. Smith (2nd team QB)- hey coach it's on TV, you know ESPNU. Lots of people watching, can we run a real play so I can see myself on the jumbotron? OC- Ricky, what you think? HC- sounds good, I love seeing my players on TV, but don't try and score, not good sportmanship, plus BA coach is new to league and I don't want to make him mad. OC- let's run @&$!?@&), remember don't score, but look up at the jumbotron and smile. Ready.....Break" Guess that is probably how it went.
  2. Ensworth the better team tonight. Elder hard to stop due to massive running lanes. Staver struggled tonight and looked like a freshman QB. I believe these teams will meet in Cookville for a rematch. BA will need to play better to win on both sides of the ball. If BA does not figure out Ensworth offensive blocking schemes, the result will not be any different.
  3. BA's gameplan from Coach White. http://www.brentwoodhomepage.com/football-previews-ba-on-espnu-bhs-rhs-head-east-cms-10496

  5. From what I heard last year....he was contacted 5 years ago for BA job. He was an asst coach at the time. When the long time head coach there retired, White was offered the HC job. Couldn't pass up the opportunity. Fast forward 4 years, Potter leaves BA and White was contacted again. He had early success his 1st couple of years as a new HC, the last 2 were mediocre. Interviewed at BA, liked the school and it's mission as well as football history. Decides to accept job.
  6. Maybe Ricky should just stay home on Friday nights. The 2 headed monster of Wade and Rodriquez will have it under control. I have watched a ton of games and seen Ricky have his all his QB's (Jefferson, Campbell, Parker and Bowers) come to the sideline and get the next play. Wade is not normally in that meeting and Ricky is not wearing a headset a lot of the time, so how is Wade calling ALL the plays? Ricky also signals, whistles and shouts at his QB to change plays at the line of scrimmage. Ricky is a control freak and has more input in the plays and schemes than you might think.
  7. You speaky out of both sides of mouth.
  8. From 1970 to 1999, BA scored a total of 50+ pts 21 times, 60+ pts 7 times, 70+ pts 1 time. Playing against Flatt's BA team 4 times, got beat bad 3 out of 4. Flatt never took starters out even with a 5 TD 4th qtr lead. Running up the score is not good sportsmanship but sometimes the other team lays down and the end result looks like a runup score.
  9. So keeping your starters in till the late in the game is bad coaching? What's right? Depends on the perspective. As a parent of a starter, a second team soph or third team freshman or as a coach who feels like his starters need more time to gel, especially if they are in a mid to late season slump prior to playoffs. Maybe the coach wants a little revenge from getting embarrassed by another coach somewhere in the past. Maybe the starters need to work on different plays or formations in a game scnerio. Coaches have their reasons, maybe go ask Ricky why, I'm sure he will tell you.
  10. There use to be a coach at BA that kept his players in till the end of the 4th qtr every game. Carlton Flatt never pulled starters till last few minutes, no matter the score. He would have beat JP2 this year 100 to zip. Maybe Coach Ricky has the same goal, winning as many Gold Balls that Flatt won no matter what.
  11. This will be the 1st BA coaching staff In the past few years that is not intimidated by the University of Ensworth and Ricky Bowers. Advantage for BA. Coach Ricky will have to surprise BA. Ricky will have Pooch kicks, onside kicks, fake punts, reverses, halfback passes in his game plan. Advantage Ensworth. Loud piped in fight song, advantage Ensworth. Offensively both teams are about even. Ensworth advantage rushing, Elder and running QB. BA advantage passing. Key to this game will be DEFENSE. I sense a high scoring game, so the defense that can stop the high potent offense will win. Another key for BA, do not kick or punt to Elder. BA 48 Ensworth 47 2OT, Ensworth misses 2 pt conversion.
  12. Good 1st half for Ensworth scouts to check out BA's first teamers.
  13. In 2008 BA lost to MUS in DII championship game. That year Ryan beat BA 27 to 23 at the Nashville Sounds baseball field. Prior to that game MBA demolished Ryan 45 to 0. Ryan went 5 and 5 that year and were not very good. So.....football can be a funny game, and 16, 17 and 18 year olds can overlook bad teams when a Ensworth team awaits them. The key tonights game is can BA coaches keep players focused. Some of those same coaches were on staff in 2008.
  14. Artificial turf, new weight room, state of the art athletic facilities, nice stadiums, reputation of a winning program with winning coaches, need based aid. For a family with a kid who is looking at private DII schools these are the attributes they will look at. (Might need to add Jumbo Tron to that list now.) Ryan does offers most of these things. (most not all) IMO when Ryan moved and had to play at West middle, Bellevue middle or the Nashville Sounds field, this caused kids to look elsewhere. Who wants to play off campus or play on campus on a Sat during the day due to lighting restrictions at Ryan. "Friday Night Lights". So now it's been a couple of years since the move and games are now played on campus on Friday night, maybe kids are now starting to look at attending and playing at Ryan. But.....the program has now got a losing reputation and kids are turning away still. 9, 10 and 11 yr old kids these days do not want to play for a team with a mediocre reputation. There are other options and that is why you see the disparity. IMO
  15. Wes - just like JP2 you will not get in Ryan supporters on Coach T. What I find interesting is their Sr running back Graham has only scored 2 TD's all year. He is a talented and experience player who has not seen the end zone as much as he should have. The FG kicker, Strebel is very good. 10 FG's this year. Other than that no bright spots exist on this team.
  16. Corn Elder +200 yards and a couple of TDs. Did MBA's DC feel like he had a plan to throttle Corn? I'm wondering what will BA's new DC have planned to contain Elder. Im sure he has seen Texas high school players of this caliber before. Maybe a box n one. Like a basketball defense. I will say it again stop Corn, you beat Ensworth. Why not have 2 linebackers key on Corn every play. I would rather double up on him and play 10 against 9 than play them straight up.
  17. No. It's streaming online though. I find it interesting that everyone on the Ensworth team wears Black cleats except for Corn. Guess there is ME in the word TEAM.
  18. Why? You going to bring your autograph book? I hear Brandt and RA will be there signing too. CLassic CWD. (Celebrity Worship Disorder) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celebrity_worship_syndrome
  19. What's the stink all about? Everyone goes to the playoff regardless of ranking. Don't get bent out of shape!
  20. Red - you said Baylor was one of the "best teams in the state last year". I don't think they played to their potential. If they had, it would have been a closer game. I never said anything negative toward the O Line. The O line opens a hole only for a split second. If you don't have an explosive back with quickness (Darkwa/Elder) the hole will close and a slower back will be stopped. By the way who is the next great back coming up at Ensworth? I agree Ensworth has had quality coaches, but there is a revolving door for good asst coaches to pursue a HC position. This revolving door could cause some discontinuity with the players and team. As for Ricky, excellent coach, but even great coaches have " middle of the road" teams.
  21. The last 4 years Ensworth has a one great running back. 2009 Darkwa 78% of total rushing yards, 2010 Elder 76%, 2011 Elder 61%, 2012 Elder 65%. That is a huge chunk of yardage and without that type explosive back Ensworth would have been " middle of the road" DII AA team. As for the championship game last year Baylor played awful. If they had played up to potential they could have won. As for the coaching staff at Ensworth...Wade will not be there much longer. His name comes up for head coaching jobs all the time, ie BA last year. Rodriquez looking for HC job as well, he was in the running for the BGA job. So if Ensworth goes to some " elite division" they could have a tough road. I don't see Ensworth as king of DII AA for much longer, more like "middle of the road".
  22. Middle of the road when they become Cornless.
  23. Everybody makes respective playoff...big deal on rankings.
