  1. That’s what I figured it was. Smart veteran move.
  2. There is a lot of validity to what you are saying. There seems to be a lot of easy fixes that aren’t changing in those rankings and it is disappointing. However, as far as Mann goes, he will be 113. He has wrestled 113 already this season but we are currently weighing him in at 120 and bumping up to 126 to better fill our dual lineup until after Christmas when he will go back down to 115. Another one is Tony Wilson who has been ranked at 160 but has been wrestling 152 all season. I have tried multiple times to send Hamm information to help validate his rankings but he chooses not to make adjustments. So I’m not going to waste me time sending information anymore. I just take these rankings with a grain of salt and it gives me a good idea of some kids who have sparked some sort of attention. That’s about it at this point.
  3. Hope to see Christian get to the finals and see how a match between him and Trent Knight would go! That would be a good one! A couple other good possible matchups I noticed: Teaster (HER) vs Weist (MJ) Buckman (HAL) vs Gibson (BC)- Rematch Also found it interesting that Kyle Burns was #6 seed. Must be a lot of talent in that 138lb bracket.
  4. Also noticed that Harrison Phillips beat Andy Robinson last weekend as well. Good weekend for the Tigers.
  5. Just because a couple yahoos on here say it, doesn’t mean that is the consensus around the state. As we talked about on here before, every year people always get excited about the possibility of someone dethroning the Chatt area team and there are always a couple people who overreact and want to make a claim that hasn’t been earned. The coaches around the state are the ones who really know what’s going on. They had us ranked 3 spots under a stacked Cleveland team and that’s exactly was earned. Cleveland proved to be levels ahead of everyone else at this point in the season. As I said earlier in the season, we have a lot of work to do to cover ground. But we are going to continue to work at it and see what happens.
  6. Seems to me like we were right where we were supposed to be. Ranked #4, beat #5, lost to #3. That’s exactly what a #4 ranked team should do. The rankers have done an outstanding job so far ranking these teams after watching Cleveland Duals! All the top 7 finished exactly how they were ranked! Maybe even top 9. Not sure if FR and Arlington wrestled.
  7. 4 out of state teams dropped. Here are the new pools based on the most recent information coaches have been given: Pool A: Cleveland Father Ryan Heritage Halls Pool B: Christian Brothers Science Hill Baylor Cleveland B Pool C: McCallie Beech Bradley Arlington
  8. This is very false. Of the teams that finished 3rd and 4th in the state last year (SH & TN)... 0 of them wrestled for Kemmerer. The fact that Morristown East, Cocke County and Daniel Boone have close to full teams now and Crockett has coaches that are passionate and believe they can eventually compete at a high level has nothing to do with Kemerrer either. Kemmerer maybe one of the most knowledgeable and talented coaches to ever come through this area. He is no doubt a great outside resource for the youth kids that want to get to the next level. And every now and then Jeff County or a Morristown team might get a stud because of Joe..... but he is not filling dual teams or creating interest. He is simply working with the top level kids whose parents have the money to pay and making them even better. So to say that all the growth is contributed to him is frankly not true, and an insult to the Region 1 coaches who have put in the time and effort to build their teams.
  9. I believe Jeff County will be the team traveling with us to State Duals this season. And I think they will be the team to beat next season. They are doing great things over there and headed in the right direction. DB or Crocket could sneak in to the #3 spot this season. They are also doing things right and working to improve. I was also glad to see Morristown East with solid numbers last night. Wrestling interest in Region 1 is growing and coaches are working hard to improve and seem more motivated than I've ever seen since I've been around the region. It's good to see.
  10. Ohhh... live release of Cleveland Duals pools! Great idea. And very exciting.
  11. I agree about Heritage. They will sneak up that top 12 as the season progresses.
  12. Wow! Great stuff guys! So fun to watch! A couple things from this episode: 1: Thanks Coach Price for the shoutout to my wife Victoria Nguyen (Myers). She was the first TN girl to continue on and wrestle 4 years in college at King. 2x All-American and World Team Trails Qualifier! Very proud of what she's done in paving the way for women's wrestling in TN as well as what she still does for our men's team every day! 2: Hamm... You gotta stop leaving the extra E out of GreenEville! We don't have much else to be proud of in that little town! Haha! 3: In all seriousness, instead of reading out all the names of each weight, I think it would be a good idea to just post the names and then let Hamm give a little insight on why he has kids ranked where they are. In the following weeks maybe mentioning some weight changes, upset wins, etc that justify why he has the kids where he does or why he has made moves. Let the viewer read the names and let you all do your thing chatting about the kids and what they've done. The graphics in the opening were great! Already much better than week 1! Can't wait for week 2! One last thing.... That Cleveland Duals is going to be a blood bath! Sheesh!
  13. Tristan is at Reinhardt and did very well at the King Open finishing 2nd! Also had a couple Knoxville area boys (Fortner and McMahan) run into each other in the consolation semis of a big bracket only to have Fortner win by Inj Default. Hope McMahan is not badly injured. Good to see so many TN names moving up to compete at the next level. Surely this has to be the most we've ever had.
  14. Good stuff! Enjoyed watching it and I know it will continue to get even better. Some suggestions for topics next week: - Top incoming freshman/transfers and how they will impact. - TN girl's offseason performances. Doug Badon and Junior Hernandez did a lot of traveling with groups of girls to try and build the environment of competitive female wrestling in our state and they could provide a lot of information on their accomplishments and future plans to continue to build a competitive atmosphere in TN. I believe we even had a Fargo AA on the girl's side as well!
  15. Wow. Shane Turner. Another great wrestling mind! Been coaching youth since I was in HS. I was fortunate to have him as a coach at Junior Duals and learned a lot in just that one week. Corey Manson speaks very highly of him and credits him for a large part of what he was able to accomplish. That's a great group of coaches there! No doubt going to produce a lot of successful teams and wrestlers.
  16. No doubt. Mike is a great coach. What HS does Boyd feed into?
  17. This is awesome! Coach Price and I discussed doing this when he was planning on making the move to Cleveland. I look forward to seeing how this pans out. I'm sure you two will do it very well and it will spark up some great interest in our state. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help this be successful.
  18. This is so true! Every year there is another team that is close and many think will overthrow the Chatt area team. However, the top team out of Region 4 is always the team that comes out on top. Cleveland has been there. Bradley has been there. Soddy has been there. Until proven otherwise, they are the teams to go through for a state championship. This year Cleveland is the "Team to beat". They've proven themselves and been at the top before. I believe that Beech has a chance to overtake them and I believe that we have the tools to do so as well. However, it's silly to say we are a "clear front runner"....It will take a lot of work to get our team to a place that we have never been before. It's new territory for our program. I definitely believe that we are the underdogs in this situation, as we should be. But I also believe it's an obtainable task. We are going to push our kids to shoot for that state title, get better throughout the season and bring the best dual team we can into Franklin in February. And by that time I think we will be a very tough team to beat. But so will Cleveland, Beech, and many others. I don't think there is any clear front runner this year, but it sure is nice to have The Hill in the talk!
  19. Coach is definitely being modest (sandbagging). I told him the same thing. Plus he is trying to mention our guys to get all the focus on us and off of his stud filled young crew! They're going to be a VERY tough team to beat this season! I think easily top 3 and could very well win the entire thing. But yes, thanks for doing those lists Coach. It added some good early discussions to the boards. Now here is another interesting thing to discuss along those lines: I think Region 5 may end up with more state medalists than the typical front runner Region 4 this season. Region 5 is stacked! Maybe Observer can do a little unscientific math to come up with how likely that may be.
  20. Hayden needs a little more time to grow. He's up to about 93 now, but will still be too small to compete at the level to match his skills at 106. He will most likely lose to less talented kids this season simply because of his size. However, he will most likely be our 106 until after Christmas and there is no doubt that he will battle and continue to get better so he can be ready when he is a full size 106.
  21. Chase Brown is at 132 this weekend. So I would assume he's probably looking at 132 for the season. He will be tough to beat at either weight.
  22. Pendley is 140+ right now so that will be a heck of cut if he goes there... But TN is known to cut their kids pretty hard so I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up there. Seeley should be 113 after Christmas. I could see Devany going 106 again. I'm pretty sure he's still tiny. Would be very surprised to see him at 120.
  23. Noah is registered for Super 32 at 113. I'd say if he makes it next weekend he'll be able to make 115 after Christmas no problem.
  24. Lemmons (DB) will not be any lower than 138. Possibly 145. But should be competitive at either weight. We expected Wysong to be 132, so I assume that is where he will be if he is eligible. We will have Joseph Frye there with Nate gone and we expect him to be very competitive at that weight and fight for a state medal in February.
  25. Josh looked great with us at Disney as well. He has put in a lot of work this offseason and as long as he stays healthy I would put him on the top of this group at 152. I would also not be surprised to see Harter right up there with him and surpassing the already known names like Wilson and Weist. Harter had Wilson on the ropes at the state tournament last season and essentially lost because of multiple (warranted) stall calls. He made some match management freshman mistakes in that tournament that cost him a medal but I'm sure he has learned from them and will definitely be one of the top kids in the state this season. Anyone who who has watched Isaiah Ryans wrestle knows he is legit. He was a huge part in our 3rd place dual finish last season. He has been stuck behind James and Diehl for a varsity spot but he was very close to taking over that spot from James last season. Watching him battle with James, Story, and Diehl every day in practice makes me confident he will be on that fringe of a state medal, but he still has to prove himself as he has not yet wrestled a full varsity season. Arthur weighed 149 the last day of the state tournament last season (when he could have weighed 156). He stopped by practice a couple days ago and weighed 152 with his clothes on. That kid looked like a grown man in 8th grade and hasn't grown since. Now that Pridemore has graduated, expect to see him at 145.
