  1. I'm not relegating the Cyclones to the 3rd position at all: I was going by them losing to Chuckey-Doak while Unicoi beat them (granted Unicoi did it at home). There's too much basketball to be played. On any given night, Elizabethton, Unicoi, and SG could beat each other. But for any of these teams to take the title, they have to win the games "on paper" that they should and then win the head to head matchups. I feel one of these teams will take the title, but Elizabethton dug a early hole (though not deep yet) with their lost at Chuckey-Doak. I still give SG the edge based on all the returning players from last year.
  2. South Greene, Unicoi, and Elizabethton all held serve with wins last night. Although Chuckey-Doak is 1-2 against these three teams, I think they will battle Eliz and Happy Valley for the 3,4, and 5 spots in the conference. Until someone can knock off SG, they still have to be the favorite. Johnson County should probably get the 6 spot since they have already knocked off WG and North. It still will be fun to see how it all plays out the rest of this season. Still a lot of basketball to be played!
  3. Look for south Greene, Unicoi, and Elizabethton all to collect conference wins this evening. Happy Valley will collect theirs when they play North on Monday
  4. Unfortunately, turning around programs take a little time. Give Coach Myers a little time to get his system in and things will come around...the season is still young.
  5. Too much DB in the post. Edwards has another big game. DB 65-40.
  6. A full slate of games tomorrow night. Any predictions from anyone? Happy Valley @ SG- Always a tough place to get a W. Happy Valley should give a good game but I have to give South Greene the edge in this one. Chuckey-Doak @ Unicoi- We'll see how good the CD team is on the road after a big win over Eliz Friday at home. Look for Unicoi to control the tempo. I have to go with Unicoi in this one. Eliz @ West Greene- Betsy needs to get in the W column. WG is another tough gym to play in. I go with Eliz in a closer than expected game. North @ Johnson County- When is the last time JC started the conference 2-0? Look for them to have a fairly easy time with North.
  7. After the first night of conference action, it looks like it will be an interesting race: I'm not too surprised with Chuckey-Doak beating Elizabethton. CD has a senior laden team that has been together for 4 years. It looked as if the Unicoi-HV game was a close one. Johnson County got a big win on the road at WG and South Greene had no trouble at North. I think South Greene still has to be the early favorite with Unicoi, Chuckey-Doak, HV, and Eliz all battling for the 2 through 5 spots. Everyone needs to hold serve on their home floor. I don't think that Johnson County will be an automatic win anymore (especially at their place). I'll give WG the 7 spot and North still has a lot of work to do. It will be a lot of fun to see how it all plays out this season.
  8. I see your point. A lot of people have better win percentages because of counting the HOF wins and not counting losses. Let's either count these as games or count them in the number of scrimmages in the preseason
  9. Congradulations to Coach Myers and the Lady Falcons on their win last night. Tonight will probably give more of a "see where you stand" game against Unicoi....
  10. I've been out of the Cosby area for about 10 years now. Who is coaching now? Used to be Manny Moore and they had some good teams. Is he still in coaching?
  11. With the addition of Edwards to compliment Murr, I agree that Crockett will be a factor this season. Boone's pick may have been a little generous. I think the race will come down to D-B or TN high.
  12. Saw where North lost to University High last night by 15. Maybe having one game under their belt could make it a little closer as you think...I still think Volunteer will win this one "comfortably".
  13. I couldn't agree more with your asessment of both teams. The thing about this game is its going to give one of these teams a little confidence to start the season. I have to go with Volunteer at this point and being at home this could be a 20-25 point game if not more. North just doesn't have any weapons: poor in the post and point positions. Volunteer will be stronger in these positions and in shooting in addition to having more experience...
  14. They have Sullivan North this Friday in a Hall of Fame game which should give them some confidence from a team standpoint. A quick early season win can do wonders no matter who it is against. I believe they also have Unicoi this weekend (who lost a lot to graduation/transferring) who will be a young team and a good measure of where they stand right now.
  15. Coach Anderson was a fine coach... Coach Myers is a good coach... In order for any program to be built up, it has to start with the feeder programs and the players have to work on their games year round: AAU, travel league, or work on their own! Feeder programs and rec leagues have to teach kids how to play defense: too many kids come to high school not knowing how to play man to man, or blocking out. The fundamentals aren't there any more in a lot of high school players...Good luck to Coach Myers and the falcons in the rebuilding process.
  16. And out of the 16 Unicoi has, I bet there is some talent to choose from, whereas the talent pool at North just isn't there...
  17. From what I understand, a few players were upset when The coach stepped down last year. They played a lot of freshmen and were hurt by the transfer of one player (who has transferred back) and by the accident to the Williams girl. Even though they were inexperienced, they enjoyed playing for him. I believe a few of this years freshmen class' parents were behind coach resigning last season. Since Coach Stafford took over, five or six of lasts years players have quit or decided not to come back out for the team.
  18. North will probably try to do what it has all year: Ball Control. Coach Norris has done a great coaching job with this team and will have them ready to play. If North can get a couple of stops early, things could get interesting. I'll go with North 28, East 27 in an upset!
  19. I agree with your HV assessment. The Bowling girl was a good player as a Freshman last year. HV could be in the 2 or 3 spot in the conference. I just don't see anyone touching South Greene with all the talent they have coming back; but this is why the games have to be played! Should be fun to see how it plays out!
  20. North will run the "Ball Control" offense to perfection and will defeat the Longhorns 35-14.
  21. Your top 4 teams are a pretty safe bet, but I feel that South Greene is the pre-season favorite. They only lost 1 player from a good team. "Fisher Ball" will always be in the hunt for the title. Cyclones may take a little time to adapt to the graduating seniors but will be in the hunt. A dark horse this season may be Chuckey-Doak who will have a few Seniors who have been together for 4 years now and could crack the top 4. Look for WG, Johnson Co, and North to struggle once again this year.
  22. I believe there is a little truth to that.....
  23. I agree that tempo control will be the key: Betsy will probably want to make it a half court game where SG will probably want a "faster" game. If Pietrowski can stay out of foul trouble, I like Elizabethton: 50-45.
  24. Definitely give SG the edge. They're winning the close "tournament" type games lately: they beat Unicoi, EHS and N Greene in the last 10 days. They have a lot of weapons. EHS better not overlook Johnson County but should get by them if they come to play. As long as Unicoi plays "Fisher" ball (control the tempo and get it to the post) they'll go a long way. Those 3 go to the District semis with SG winning it over Unicoi and all 3 make it to the Region semis with SG taking the prize.
  25. I totally agree: there are a lot of girls who could play b-ball but don't because of club volleyball. In addition, you can't base a basketball teams "potential" based on what the volleyball team did and visa-versa.
