How do you define "flip out"? I simply stated that to bring up something you hear "from a source" is not enough to imply someone is not being a "gentleman". What a minute: I just got a call from a "source" that Coach Martin refused to give CPA a film. Can you confirm that for me?

Welcome to the CPA/GP thread, and you have every right to post here; HOWEVER, since you are not a supporter of either team, UNLESS you have proof (not just a source)of this allegation, why would you just want to come on here and try to stir stuff up? If you have proof, share it with the rest of us. You usually make great posts with good insight. Let's just stick to discussing football.

I was wondering who that kid was walking around with the other BB players at the FB games. It seems like Alsmiller has gained a couple of inches since last year as well, but Lindsey looks about the same size. They seem to have 3 players that are 6'5" or better.
-
Ome more thing: Matthews had to be a pass oriented coach because of a lack of size in the line. This is the first year in many where CPA has had both size and athletes on the OL and DL. And most of them are back next year.
-
Matthews has always been, pre-CPA, at CPA, and now at Briarwood (Birm.) a great coach and a great man. Sometimes a change is needed and is part of a bigger plan. Matthews accepts that and is happy where he is. "All things work together for good to those who love God". Keep in mind, this team is basically the same players Matthews had and he helped develop them since they were 5th graders. Differences: Great senior leadership even though only a few guys; great defensive scheming, great freshman kicker, and biggest difference: best players are now playing both ways, except QB. Matthews always 2-platooned.

I Posted 07 September 2011 - 05:02 PM "Stats alone can be deceptive due to quality of opponent, which defense (1st, 2nd teams) gave up the points, etc.. With that said, CPA's defense has been pretty impressive. Their 1st team defense has only given up 14 points in 3 games and that was to Goodpasture. I would be surprised if anyone else holds GP to 14 until well into the playoffs." Here is the points per game GP scored after that: 34,45,42,34,24,42,34,42,41,42. As I predicted, only CPA held GP to less than 24 points. This is not the same GP team CPA beat week 1; however, CPA will still be the best defense they have played, especially pass defense which is CPA's strength. GP has been the playoff nemesis for CPA for the last few years. CPA, at full strength, can beat GP, but they are pretty banged up. I don't think GP can score more than 28 against CPA defense, but CPA matching that could be a challenge.

Wasn't at the game, but sounds like the above was about right. CC got a lot of running yards, but CPA's defense bent, but didn't break, and forced CC to pass some and turn it over. CC got behind, couldn't pass, and got in trouble. Congrats to CC though on a well fought game they could have won, and with so many young players, they will have to be reckoned with next year. I predict CPA will be better next year as well, so there could be a rematch.

Hated to see SC lose for personal reasons. They gave up quick TD to PC in 1st quarter, not being used to team speed like PC, but they came back and put up 14 on 2 drives, and had PC sucking wind in the 2nd quarter. They were in the PC red zone right before half, but threw an INT on 4th down and got no points. If they had gone up 21-6 at half, i think they would have won. PC got mo back in 2nd half, and got 2 INT's and forced 2 key fumbles to stop SC's drives. Just too many mistakes by SC. Hated to see them lose.

That explains the close score, especially Mitchell (starting QB all year), Fleenor (leading tackler and hard runner) and Ecthyson (one of 2 best DLs). So Ecth is out next week? That hurts. Small squads like CPA don't have the depth to play at the high enough level they need to in the playoffs without 3-4 starters. Glad to have Wharton and Kemp who can step in and at least make things happen when Mitchell is out, but will be hard to beat GP if those guys are not back close to 100%.
-
Couldn't go, but surprised by the score - not the 7 by CC, but the 17 by CPA. Apparently from stats, Mitchell didn't play. If not, that had to have an effect on CPA's offense. Will he be back next week?

Maybe some people decided that if they can't say something nice, they won't say anything at all. Kinda sad there is not interest in talking basketball, only criticizing off the court stuff.

First of all, there are only about 2-3 CPA fans that post on CoachT. Secondly, the only thing that I have said is that based on CPA's success stopping the run and points given up this year against some very good teams (Maplewood, Pearl Cohn, Goodpasture, etc.), if Cheatham is depending on the run only to win, I believe CPA will win. No CPA poster has said CC will get destroyed or they don't have a chance. I said CPA will win, but it's not a matter of disrespect for CC - it is just an analysis based on the season and my opinion. No coach or fan in his right mind will underestimate any opponent. Upsets happen every week.

This time of year, it only takes about 1/2 a day for a field to dry because the weather has been so dry. Rain is supposed to stop tonight. The field was not beat up after the PC game. It should be fine.
-
Amazing and very impressive that CC only has 3 seniors, and made the playoffs. The future should be bright for them even beyond this year.

#10 is Williams, the starting RB and Safety - team leading rusher. You have to know him to understand why he was sprinting in 2nd half warmups. He's very intense. Don't know if he could have played or not, but the coaches obviously didn't want to risk more injuries. He didn't play the 2nd half. #5 is Wharton. Played some 2nd half, but not as much as he normally would have. He is the team's playmaker, return man, and a shut down corner. When he is healthy, he is good for at least a TD a game, either scored or set up. Mitchell, the QB, also got dinged up at Lipscomb and didn't play the 2nd half of the DL game. He played all of the PC game but was a bit gimpy. Usually runs the ball more. The lineman that was out for the last few weeks should be back for the playoffs. Again, everyone has some injuries this time of year. Can't use them as an excuse. Enough on CPA - back to the PC/SC discussion.
-
Just FYI, a starting senior lineman didn't play at all for CPA, and both Winston Williams and Vic Wharton (RB's and DB's) got hurt in the 1st half with Williams not playing at all after that, and Wharton limited. Injuries are part of the game and there are a lot of dings this late in the season.
-
If that's the key, then CPA wins. No one except Maplewood has run on them this year, and they would have beat Maplewood without the kickoff fumble lost at the end. They bend sometimes but sustaining a drive against them is very tough, and their red zone defense is fantastic. Also if you get behind, and are not a passing team, you are in big trouble.
-
CPA has been outstanding defensively all year. The last 3-4 games; however, they have been very sloppy on offense with penalties at critical times and mistakes. One problem has been a parade of late season nagging injuries that have caused lineup changes and players not being able to go full speed. Hopefully, they can come out fast against CC, and let the starters get a little rest during the game, or after half. Little mistakes and the inability to go 100% will bite you as you go into the playoffs where games are often decided by one or two big plays.
-
Where will the semifinals be played? Are the quad locations preset or depend on results and seeding?
-
CPA players dedicated the Pearl Cohn game to Michael Daniel, their teammate who died just prior to the season. This video was made after the game. Very powerful whether you are a CPA fan or not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRTMl7r5p2c

Someone answer a question for me. What is the heighth and weight of the offensive lineman for PC - #75? What year is he?
-
He makes them go, no doubt, but they have a lot of talent in addition. Despite the score earlier in the season, GP really shot themselves in the foot against CPA, and it took them out of the game. I would rank GP very close to CPA as a team. We may find out week 2 of the playoffs.
-
CC has had a very impressive year, especially later in the season. The problem for them will be scoring, as CPA's 1st team defense has only given up 6 TD's in 10 games, and those were to Maplewood, Goodpasture,Pearl and East Lit. - all fast teams. Don't know about CC's speed but they better have some to move the ball on CPA. CPA's biggest opponent lately has been penalties and turnovers at critical times keeping them from scoring much. CC has to hold CPA below 17 to win, IMO.

Thanks for the explanation. I can see where this would be more commonin rural areas, but not in a Metro area.

FIRST - I AM NOT accusing refs of purposefully fixing games! However, I don't think it is appropriate or smart to make the head referee of a game who is an alumni of one of the schools. It is extremely hard for a ref to be totally impartial when they are an alumni of a school playing even if they are an honest person. In last night's CPA/PC game, the head ref was a noted former alumni/player of Pearl Cohn. IMO, that is not fair for either CPA or for that ref. It opens room for extra criticism of his work, and puts him in a bad position of his calls being questioned. This was a regular season game so there was plenty of time to make different ref assignments, and avoid this situation. I might add there were some questionable calls, but they occurred on both sides, and I do not think there was any particular favoritism.
