  1. Based on what I saw last year at the D2 college level, it will change the game drastically. Depending on the field size, only strong hitters will be able to hit HRs, and they will have to catch it pretty pure to get it out of a field of any size. The HRs will drop by at least half. Small ball will become much more important than in the past. The defensive side will be affected as well, because the teams with good outfielders will have a big advantage. The outfielders will have to play in to try and stop all the garbage hits from falling, so the ability to go back on a ball and run it down will be much more important. They are pretty much like wooden bats. Only balls struck on the sweet spot have any juice, and the rest go nowhere.
  2. So was the fake punt a great call or just a bonehead play by Bearden? Even with the bad camera work, I could see on TV that the quarterback was back to take the snap. It should have been obvious what was going on. I also think it is time to move the kickoff back from the 40. Maryville will probably have a touchback on every kickoff this year. That is too big a reward for only having to kick a football 60 yards. Looks like the Maryville kicker could do it from 70, but not every time. If you can kick it 70 yards, then you have earned it. As it is, the best return team in the NFL would get it on the 20 against Maryville.
  3. Unless a new coach could get some talented kids to come out that don't currently play, it wouldn't help. Since joining 4AAA in 2006, they are at a huge disadvantage talent-wise. If they could ever get a pitcher that threw 85+, he would be hard to hit at the LC field. There is no way that mound is the right distance, and it is not just an optical illusion.
  4. Did Kirkland play? I heard that the law was looking for him at school on Thursday.
  5. Unless the umpire was on his knees, it would be physically impossible for the SC coach to do any chest bumping. If not, I hope Blue had his cup on.
  6. No problem! WS has a kid on the roster this year that got kicked off his HS team his senior year. They also have a pitcher that got into a police chase that went from Jefferson City to Knoxville Center Mall at speeds over 100 MPH. Finally, they have a kid that just got out of jail and is facing charges for crushing his teammate's elbow with a baseball bat. There may be more, but that is all I have heard.

    IMAC

He has signed a letter of intent to play at UT. However, I don't think there is any way that he will get through the NCAA clearing house.
  8. While Walters State is very good, they can not beat most D1 schools. They only have Freshmen and Sophomores, while the D1s have Juniors and Seniors. I know they even lose to some NAIA schools when they play them in the fall.
  9. Was there a flag thrown on this play? Per the rules, I thought you were not allowed to jump over a defender feet first. Diving is OK, but not the hurdle style. It does look cool though, and I think the name on the Catholic defender's back says "OWNED". That tackling position is a good example of how to get your neck broken.
  10. The policy just says explosive devices are not allowed. I guess snakes and sparklers would still be OK.
  11. Go to the 2009-10 TSSAA Football Handbook http://www.tssaa.org/Handbook/football.pdf. Go to section II K. This is what it says: K. No explosive devices shall be allowed in regular season or play-off games. I would think that this would make fireworks illegal. It is in the handbook for every other sport as well, but AC has never been one to let the TSSAA rules get in their way.
  12. Surely they wouldn't take him back. Ask anybody that was in the AC Booster Club when he left.
  13. They used to have separate teams for underclassmen. This was discontinued a couple of years ago due to lack of interest by the college coaches. Very few showed up to the underclass games, because they didn't want to waste time watching kids that they couldn't even talk to. It really should be restricted to upperclassmen; the others should have to wait until they are actually eligible to be recruited.
  14. It has never been loaded with Farragut players in the past. The last 3 years the east team has been used by Coach Guinn to promote his players, promote his friends players, and recruit for his summer team.
  15. Cooper went through Middle School at Karns, and switched to Farragut as a freshman. I don't think he physically moved into the Farragut school district until part way through his freshman year. Think how good Karns could have been if not for transfers. Cooper and John Anders from Catholic would have pitched there.
  16. The main thing I respect AE for is finishing out the season when you consistently get run-ruled by scores of 20-0. Beating Maryville Christian is not something to get on here and brag about. They have an enrollment of 82, and 19 are seniors. They normally only play other schools JV teams, and lose. Also, you don't get respect by yelling BAM when you strike somebody out. Act like you've done it before and expect to do it again. On Gibbs losing to Hardin Valley, Gibbs is down this year and Hardin Valley is young but getting better. Strange things happen in baseball.
  17. So you beat a team that is not even a member of the TSSAA. Has AE thought about getting in any coach pitch tournaments? They might not win the tournament, but they could pick up a few more W's. Did the AE pitcher really yell "BAM" whenever he struck somebody out? That is absolutely classless. If he could actually strike somebody out on a real team and then yell "BAM", he better be ready to take one in the earhole when he comes up to bat. Then he could yell "BAM".
  18. I'm sure they were deleted. When any thread starts to bring up questions or facts that makes Coach Guinn look bad, it gets shut down and deleted.
  19. If you still have your starters in when you are up by 18, you would be facing the hardest throwing, wildest pitcher I had. If somebody gets it in the ear hole, so be it.
  20. This is not new for CAK. I have been told that they are the only team in that district that plays their starters against Scott County. All the other teams play backups and JV kids.
  21. I think his birthday always falls in the first week of the season, so he is now an 18 year old junior. Can you get a CDL at 18? If so, he can drive the SD team bus and save some money.
  22. I'm not hating, and I hope AE is better. I can't imagine losing and getting run ruled every game for an entire season. I'm just saying that last year's AE team was bad and didn't care and lost to Union County 13-0 and 12-2, this year's team, that is supposedly better and cares, also lost 12-2. So what is the difference?
  23. Don't clean out a space in the trophy case just yet. AE played Union County twice last year and lost 13-0 and 12-2. Sounds like more of the same to me. Time will tell.
  24. I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. I just know that over the last 4 years, there were several Knoxville kids playing for AC. I just want to know if that trend is going to continue.
  25. Are York and Rorex the last of the Knoxville gang that the former AC coach brought in? Any other Knoxville players making the daily drive up I-75?
