  1. Good posts, points taken, sometimes blogging doesn't come across very well..does anyone have the individual match breakdown? Wasn't in the paper, thanks!
  2. Good post, Hammerman. Really, the only thing that ultimately matters is results, and the development of the young men, and we all know the tremendous amount of hard work that goes into that development. After all, a wrestler only has 4 short years somewhere in some program, and the situation probably will not materially change during that timeframe. If you happen to have a lot of boys in the school, a lot of feeder program wrestlers in the school, some transfers that help, great, longtime coaching, brothers and fathers who wrestled, then you are at the top of the heap. With a small school, lose a couple of stud wrestlers, lose a coach, lose some support of the program to other programs (spreading the athletes around), then you are not. The TSSAA has attempted over the years to equalize the regions and divisions, as we know, for each of the sports, and it is only crudely efficient, and at best will be more fair than doing nothing, and unfortunately will screw some and help some. My interest was more D2, so I have collected factoids in my head , which are now non-factoids, but the jist is this: D2 schools get a multiplier times the number of students (1.3 maybe?), to compensate for the idea that those going to private schools are more apt to play sports. Somewhere in the TSSAA info had abreakdown on the number of boys, and there is a significant disparity between teams competing against one another(neither good nor bad, just what it is). I suspect the same in D1 regions (D2 IS a region). This one is an opinion-oid: I wish our guys could wrestle more like D1, we had to go to the MBA-FR last night 'cause we had no match! Anyway, consider yourself lucky to be part of, root for, watch, a long-standing great program. I think you can beat your chest occasionally about it, be smug sometimes, and have fun with it all...who cares? But I think the ones actually out there doing battle as far as I am comcerned deserve all of the credit and recognition, from whatever program, even if it on the bottom. A salute to the men...
  3. Have to agree, 2blLeg, and that "maybe" takedown at the end could have been called either way...hard wrestling by both sides...officiating was okay, although one call was overturned for points after Pat Simpson argued, which was after the two refs had consulted and called it their way...thought that was odd..sloppy calls on the takedowns on the edge, and the issue of control...
  4. While we are on the subject, Matthew Proctor is a Marine in Iraq, coming home during the state tourney, he was a fine wrestler for BA, graduated in 2007 and Michael Proctor's brother (BA 171 lb)....off to Afghanistan soon after that..very proud of the young man...
  5. Thanks for the post, Rigger, I am right with you. We will be pulling for all to have a safe return...

    Region 7

If their head to head is tied then it is the last match, otherwise 2-1 guy is seeded higher.
  7. I will call you and raise you one. Permit me to say, I think kids have an opportunity to get a good education in public and private schools. Depends on the kid, the family to take advantage of what resources are available to them. I am an Overton grad '71 and public college, and my lovely wife was a product of public, and honestly proud of it. Our kids both are BA schooled, with my daughter at UTK, and that has been great as well. My point is, let's first accept that all is good with the opportunity side. I agree with you,Chattwrestling, that some gerrymandering crossing zones happens, and why wouldn't folks? I would say that everyone is trying to do the best for their families, and we all are a "little over the top" with planning out our future Professional Athletes! I certainly understand that some don't understand the private school financial aid process (quite involved, farmed out to a brainy independent panel, and actually for BA at least, athletics are not considered-hurts, but it is the truth), and would consider some athletes as recruited, but at BA we had folks who either got transferred to Nashville, or moved closer to Nash, just to go to BA, because of their football program(choices). Back to wrestling.. hasn't affected OUR wrestlin', except for the respect that our coaches have earned. May affect Baylor, McCallie,FR, MBA. Maybe they wanted to wrestle for old line coaches( wouldn't trade BA's, however, they are GOLD). Now that we are all where we are, how about wrestling your tail off, and accept the result of the matches, win or lose? What I love and hate about wrestling is that once it is over, it is in fact over, and that makes it like the Super Bowl, can't "get it back". Anyway, my point is that it is all about the wrestlers, then the families, then the coaches, then the schools....forget about which school got an advantage, through scholarship, perhaps who has a superior coach and watches tape and THUS has an advantage, our has a superior feeder program , and thus , or has 80 wrestlers as opposed to less...it is what is is, let the men do battle and on that day let the best man win....take care, ,and good luck to everyone!
  8. You know, BCB, these are excellent posts, I would like to compliment you by saying "you da man..". Bunch of good guys on CoachT! We still are in the sweet spot, but in not too many weeks we are gonna have big-time withdrawal, so we better been enjoyin' it. Good luck to all of the wrestlers in D1 this weekend...
  9. Good stuff, Killa33, keep it coming..a little about yourself, perhaps, so we know where you are coming from..probably a good wrestler defending your turf? A coach maybe ? The truth shall set you free...
  10. Uh, that would be sarcastic...
  11. Thoughtful prediction, depends on the bonus points, I suppose...
  12. You know, glad Luther does it, I like to see them, thanks for "outing " him, Bayou, and I am afraid you must have a dog in the hunt, too, judging from your carefully worded post. I agree with Walker Valley post, head-to-head duals are dang important, the problem is always the matchups on that day, win by one, for example, and your 215 is pukin' in the trash can and can't wrestle, or the silly ref awards those silly penalty points, etc. I believe that is why the criteria also considers a team's individuals abilities. But IMHO WV deserves to be in there, but there is only room for ten. I thought MWR had a great point regarding the regional and national rankings, as to why it is meaningful, but, I like to see where the teams stack up D1and D2. And if BC and (to a lesser degree it seems} Baylor likes to puff out their chests and proclaim numero uno, then I would say the rest of us can't do much about it except on the mat....any other teams claiming number one who won't wrestle? What is the real story here between Baylor and BC?
  13. 2blLeg, can't buy entertainment like this! I surmise that 8020 is layin' in the woods....thanks as always for the guys ranking, please let us see your stuff....blackberries if you are on the road..." gitter done.."....
  14. Very good, sir, just my opinion, and I am admittedly a hack...
  15. Having watched BA wrestle both MBA and FR this week, I think MBA wins 125, 130, 160, 171, 189, and 285, and FR wins 41-25, good solid wrestling by both teams. When do they go?
  16. Great point, MWR. Programs can change in 3-4 years, IMHO consistent, dedicated coaching is key...
  17. Good point, Texas, looking for ward to the next four weeks .....but it would be an interesting exercise.
  18. Great point, Rigger, starting wrestlers early, and alot of them, is key. So exposure to the sport, resources, mentoring(2nd, 3rd, 4th generation), good coaching, etc. Middle Tennessee is holding their own, (D1 and D2), |I do Believe.
  19. You know, texas,we should never let facts get in the way of good solid opinions. I kinda liked the poster's idea from a while back to have a quick D1 D2 top 4 go at it.Why not? Gotta hand it to the FR wrestlers for being tough and ready, good work. To follow up on GHouse's question, is Indy wrestling hurt these days? Also, PBD, I don't know if "smugitude" is a word or not, but, no offense, the Blackman posters had a dose of it after the FR match, but earned it, I guess. And as BCB agrees, you are quite wordy, but you are smooth ....." like buttah"...
  20. Sometimes glue is good, sorry I misspelled your moniker,2blLeg...gotta go back to " Lost", have a good 'un
  21. I know, thought I was talking to two different folks on different blogs, see my other one for you , kind sir!
  22. Now, now, MWR, it will be alright, deep breaths! You and I will be great friends in the future (it is my hope). I guess I react when any of the fine young gladiators are described like objects, being"thrown around", whether it is BA or FR. Not a big deal, but I guess I prefer the approach of BCB or Rigger or Hamm or GHouse or 2bl leg(sp), and others I can't remember, who aren't negative about the wrestlers (or programs), and generally seem like gentlemen (not that any other style of posting is not by gentlemen) in their approach. By the way, again not a big deal, but my congrats for teams and wrestlers are quite sincere, as any match success and any individual success is to be congratulated, at all of the different levels. That is my central focus on the purist of competitions. The hot air (mine included ) on this great site is pure entertainment and I thoroughly enjoy it. Heck, in most sports, for example, pole vaulting, which my son also does, I have been known to cheer the competition, much to his dismay...Have a good evening, and I really mean it...
  23. CBG,again not to beat the already dead horse, but BA only has one wrestler who can go at 152 at this time and that is Justin, the announcer was uninformed. I agree that BA has strong wrestlers, andthat FR is tough across the lineup.
