  1. No, I do not think they should have pulled him out, but that is a little different situation, in my opinion. I honestly would not have even had a problem with them rescheduling these two games with Cumberland Gap (which is who they were supposed to play their cancelled two games with in the first place). I have a problem with them rescheduling the games 1. as girls only, 2. ONLY to give her a chance to break the record, not for the better of the team, and 3. with inferior teams (which they beat both by 20 or more and only won around 12 games the whole year) just to let this girl score a lot of points (more than 60 in these two games combined). She now holds the record by around 10 points.
  2. Actually, at least one person agreed. Plus, I don't know this, but I think that a lot of people on the defense are family and friends of Lowe or faculty from the school, so I really don't feel too bad about giving my opinion.
  3. In case you haven't noticed, "P", no one is saying anything negative about Kate Lowe personally at all. This is about the coaching staff and athletic department. And yes, even if she were second, I would still be upset about the way the situation was handled. Even if the record weren't broken, it is the way they tried to do it. So, P, before you go calling people jealous and "player haters", maybe you should understand what the argument is. And, not to mention, this is not a debate on anyone's character; this is a debate on how a situation was handled (I thought we had already established that). And, not to be rude, but I think that calling her one of the best players in the state is going a little far...maybe you should get "out of the county lines" a little more yourself. I am not saying that she's not a pretty good player, but one of the best in the state, no.
  4. Wow, I hadn't heard that. It is a bit of a surprise considering the circumstances (that they have already announced it). I wonder how they do verify the points and how they know for sure. Only the home teams books are official, so in order to know positively, they would have to go through a lot of trouble. Is that not right? Sometimes points are hard to verify because sometimes books seem to disappear, wether it be from disgruntled coaches or just misplacing.
  5. No, I don't think that was it because it doesn't help your seed in the tournament to play two non-district games to Knoxville Ambassadors and Lynn Camp, Ky.
  6. No, it is certainly not a personal attack. I have not once mentioned anything negative about Kate Lowe or anything to do with her. The only people I have a problem with is the coaching staff and athletic department at the school. I have a problem with the only mission for the whole year being to break a record. I have a problem with the coaches admitting that the only reason for scheduling those games was to give her a chance to break the record. They did not schedule those games for tune ups. The teams were so bad it didn't help at all.
  7. There are ways around the number of games. Before you go assuming she broke the record in less games, maybe you should learn the rules completely. Even though you are only allowed to play 24 games a year (according to the tssaa), Hall of Fame games do not count toward that total. Also, you can schedule at least two tournaments a year, and that tournament only counts as two games regarless of how many games you play in those tournaments. So, if you would think about it logically and quit jumping to conclusions, there can be quite a few games added on to those 24. Depending on the set up of the tournament, that could be at least an extra 5-7 games onto a schedule. So don't act like you know the facts of the situation. I don't think anyone really does unless they are the faculty or staff of Scott High and can tell us how many games it was done in. And to be honest, it doesn't even matter. I agree with what someone said earlier, a career is a career; things change; there will always be more and less games. Players' teams that go further in the post season touraments have a better chance at scoring more points. I am only debating the way the record was achieved.
  8. For one, I know it happens a lot, sometimes you just don't have time at the end of the year to get all the games in. My other point is that they didn't reschedule with the same team; they scheduled with two different inferior teams with two "girls only" games. If the school was so set on getting those two games played and rescheduled for the girls, why didn't the boys need to make up those games, too? Would that not have been fair to the boys team? ...I would say Scott High's boys coach had a little more sense and did not want to take a chance at his boys getting hurt in meaningless games with inferior opponents right before the district tournament. I am not trying to debate the fact that Lowe is a pretty good player...or the fact that she is a good person (I don't even really know anything about her). I am saying that the coaching staff, athletic department, and school should not have done this. Not only do I consider it dishonest, but it is not what records are about. I know records are made to be broken, but they are made to be broken honestly. It is just my opinion that the situation was handled poorly.
  9. Trust me; I am not the only one with a problem. There has actually been a lot of negative talk about it...and some positive, too, so that's why I brought it up. It just so happens that a lot of people think that just because someone plays for four years on a bad team, they deserve an award or something. Everone for the last decade playing for Scott High has played for a bad team for four years.
  10. Do you think that games do not get cancelled every year for snow and other reasons? They didn't reschedule with the same team; they found teams that were no good to play instead. Not to mention, they tried to schedule even more games than just these; I guess other coaches just realized how silly it was to play a game that doesn't matter two days before the start of the district tournamant. I am not saying that she is not any good. I think she's a pretty good ball player, but I think this is dishonest. I feel like if you can't break the record in the games alloted, you should not break the record. I don't imagine that if Pat Summit were one win away from 1000 they would add a game on to the end of the season.
  11. Actually, I don't have a child that plays for Scott, thank goodness. I just know what happened and think it's ridiculous. I just feel for the other kids who had to put up with all of this. And in response to everyone that says Scott has a young team, thay always have a young team. That is always the excuse for not being able to compete. Eventually you just have to admit that they aren't very good and they have terrible coaching and a bad athletic department. Since 1998, they have had 6 coaches, and in my opinion that shows that the athletic department stinks. You have to give someone a chance to develp a program and these kids. Not to mention, since 1998, they always use the excuse that they're young. So what; a lot of teams are young.
  12. Recently, a senior at Scott High School in Scott County broke the all-time scoring record at their school by about 10 points in their last game (a loss in the district tournament). The problem is that during the whole season, this seemed to be the team's only objective. This girl played pretty much every game from tip-off to buzzer without a break. Even if the team was up by 20 or losing by 20, she was in the game. Every play was designed to her. They had a few games cancelled for snow, and all but two were rescheduled. The coaches of Scott High then realized that there was no way she could break the record, so the week before and of the district tournament, they added two games onto the schedule just so this girl could break the all-time scoring record of their school. They actually tried to schedule more games, but no one else would agree to it so close to tournament time. The sad part is that the games they scheduled were teams that the school had never played before, and, not to be rude, but they were also terrible. In those games she racked up over 60 points. The coaching staff actually even admitted the reason they were doing this, and it was because of the scoring record. In my opinion, this is terrible. I look down on the coaching staff, the athletic department, the principal, and the school board of this school. I think it is absolutely ridiculous that your only objective is to break a scoring record. Not only that, but it is unfair to the rest of the team. And how fair is this to the old record holder? In my opinion, this should not be allowed. Why even have a record if you want to break it this way? Maybe they should just choose who they want, take their picture, and hang it on the wall; It's pretty much the same thing. This makes me realize that I would certainly not want a child playing in this athletic department. And if I were an opposing coach, I would not even want to play them. Please give me your opinion.
  13. The Oakdale/Oneida game has been cancelled.
  14. Can anyone give some information on the Grace Christian girls tournament going on? I have looked everywhere for scores and stats and cannot find them anywhere. How did the Grace/Scott game turn out? And does anyone have stats from that game on both teams?
  15. I think the Lady Highlanders have a good chance tonight. Like you said, they have been playing pretty well lately. Maybe tonight they will get their second district win on the season! But I'm sure Kingston will play them a tough game.
  16. First of all, a coach's job is to teach the game and make the kids understand what they do right and what they do wrong. Sometimes, just telling a player doesn't make things sink in. When you tell someone and tell someone to do something (and it doesn't get done) sometimes the yelling and the screaming is the only way to get through to them. Also, we can't forget that these are kids we're dealing with (and sometimes they need to be taken down a few notches in their confidence level)...because to be honest there aren't that many kids that I've seen lately that don't have a little too much confidence in their ability. Plus, you have to put yourself in the coaches shoes...and if you've never coached, you won't understand. Humiliation sometimes is the only way to make someone wake up and realize that they're doing something wrong. Because trust me, when you get embarrassed once bad enough, you won't let it happen again! And everyone should quit being babies. People think that you can't say anything to their kids anymore. You better get used to the real world. If you're going to play sports, you better get used to people getting in your face. And imagine, if the coach is that bad on the court, imagine what that kid heard in the locker room! That's just part of it. All I say is don't judge until you know what it's like to coach. I played and coach, and I don't think there's anything wrong with the yelling and screaming.
  17. I think everyone agrees that you should not have to pick between high school and AAU, and like a few others have said, you can definitely do both. I have experience in both high school and AAU, and to be honest, AAU was much better for my development. The level of competition is much greater, and the talent that you play along with is better, too. Although high school helps with recruiting, AAU seems to get you out on the radar much better. At State and National tournaments, their are scouts everywhere. I love high school basketball, but I think AAU helps more with skill level and exposure to other parts of the basketball world. Out of our whole AAU team, over half went on to play college ball; in high school there were only one or two...and the colleges weren't near as good.
  18. I think they will beat Gibbs. Gibbs is usually a weak team, and if I'm not mistaking, they have beat Gibbs on a fairly normal basis the last couple of years.
  19. I look for them to win more games, too. I think this year they will win between 9 and 12 games, but closer to nine. Still, I look forward to the time when Scott is a district and region contender every year. I agree with what you say about the kids not wanting to put enough into it, and that's a sad thing. A little work never hurt anybody.
  20. Yeah, that's a good point...if he's given the time. I think he can really turn that program around. Do you know how long it's been since the girls had a .500 season? The kids have to have a reason to want to play basketball at Scott High. When a program is so used to losing, it's hard to find people who want to play. I feel like the kids don't really know HOW to win right now. I think Scott does have some talent, but they're going to have to get some things together in order to compete well with the teams on their schudule.
  21. I agree, they do need to try to keep the kids around, but that's going to be hard because the kids in the program aren't used to the type of discipline that they're gettting. It's hard to keep kids playing when they'll get mad and quit when a coach gets up in their face a little. The kids are going to have to get tougher. You can't just quit when things don't go your way. Just because somebody's rough on you doesn't mean that they don't like you...and it doesn't give you the excuse to quit and act like you're mistreated. Also, I'm not saying these kids don't have heart. But heart can only get you so far. A lot of times, pure talent comes into play. Eventually, you've got to make that big shot, or stick those two free-throws, or make that big stop when it matters...and I'm not sure Scott has that, and if they do I'm not sure they've put it together yet. Heart can play a big part in the game, but in the end it comes down to how well the team plays together, whether the players have the abilty and talent, and good coaching decisions. I'm hoping Scott High can come up with all of that, but I'm just not sure they have it yet.
  22. I think this will be a really close game. Oneida has looked pretty impressive this year, and I feel like OS will always play with them pretty close. I haven't seen a whole lot of Oliver Springs, but I think Oneida takes this in a close one.
  23. Congratulations do go to the Lady Highlanders...but It seems like to me they are going to have to find some consistency. They are very inconsistent and seem to let down near the end of games. The program has had this problem for years, but hopefully it can be resolved with their coach now. I feel like he is the right person for the job and is doing well with the girls. I feel like if the kids at Scott High can get used to winning and get a winning tradition again, the program will be on the way up...where it needs to be. Scott High plays in a tough distrist, but it's not near as tough as it used to be, so I think they will probably win around 10 games this year. They have some talent, but I don't know if it's enough talent to get all the things done that they need to. Scott needs to find a consistent player that they can depend on game in and game out for scoring. It seems like to me that Scott High always has the excuse that they are young. Eventually you have to quit with that excuse and just play basketball. Young or not, you still have to go out and compete. I'm a Highlander fan, but I wish for things to get better for their basketball program. They have a little bit of young talent and a coach that actually knows what's going on. Hopefully the school system will realize that and give them some time.
  24. Thanks. I just hate to see Scott High's prorgam in the shape it is in right now. It is hard to watch those girls go out and give it their all but still not seem to be able to get things done. I agree about losing being contagious. When you have lost so many times, it becomes uniform to the kids, and that's really what they expect...and that's such a sad situation. I want to see some pride and confidence in the Scott High program. I also agree that Scott High used to be feared. In past years, they had some great talent along with a winning tradition. The won a few district banners and maybe a regional championship. Players like Lisa Pace, Michelle Lewallen, Delina Sharp, Wendy Newport, Bo West, and Kelly Fuller were just a few of the players that made Scott High a great competitor in their district and region at that time. But now it looks like that tradition is gone. I look forward to seeing if our new coach can bring that tradition back to Scott County and actually imprint some pride and confidence into not only the athletes, but the school and the community. I hope everyone will support them and give the team a little time.
