  1. Does Burkey have Carter in his back pocket like Insell had?
  2. What I am referring to is the by-laws every AAU team has to abide by. I believe there is a pretty thick book of rules and regulations. Is this subject covered anywhere? If so, where and what does it say?
  3. There should be something in the AAU "Manual" about this subject. What does it say?
  4. More about Tenn. Team Pride. Where from? Who are the coaches? etc.
  5. If they have a ligit reason for forfeiting, then they should be allowed to play on. Otherwise they should be out of the Nationals. I would say the tournament director should know.
  6. Ok Trueline, you say she never finished in the top 16 in any year playing for Southern California. I will try to find out. I have been thinking about the Super Regionals etc. and I see nothing wrong with them. I admitted that our state, and some others, have a dozen or so better teams than some state's champions. But what I would suggest is that the teams already qualified for the Nationals, not play in the state to make it more competitive and exciting.
  7. OK you won me over. Not a bad idea as long as the super regionals are open to anyone, not just a hand picked few to get you qualified like in softball sometimes. I did notice in some years every team from Tennessee would be much better than the state champion from certain states. And even a dozen or so left at home would be better than the champion in that state. So I guess it is a good idea. I guess it makes the state tournament less exciting, but so be it.
  8. Am I seeing this correctly? 8 teams from Tennessee made the Nationals? My Goodness, how many teams were at the Nationals, 200 or more? So what are you saying that every team that made it to the State tournament went on to the Nationals? How many teams were signed up in the 13 and Under age group in Tennessee? Please don't tell me AAU is getting like softball with qualifying tournaments, where you have some patsys come to your place for a tournament to qualify yourself for the Nationals.
  9. Isn't that the girl that played for Southern California in AAU that won the Nationals in the late 1990s? Was a contender for the National title almost every year? Or am I thinking of someone else? If she is the one that played for Conneticut, I am sure she was on the Southern California team. Where did you get the info that they didn't do well?
  10. For the young ladies to be seen they should make it to the big bracket. Most coaches don't even show up until then. When is the last time you saw Gino or Pat at the consolation tournament. Fewer teams, more chance for a winner and be seen.
  11. But we had some really good Celtic Teams. Ok so I jumped the gun. The 14s and 15s start this weekend. How many teams will represent Tennessee in each age bracket, 8 or 9? Use to you would have 3 or 4 really good teams and they would pick up the best of the rest and we would kick butt at the Nationals.
  12. Earlier I made a statement that it looked like a down year for Tennessee Girl's AAU basketball, but I promised to wait until the end to make a final judgment. Please, someone give us a final tally on the Tennessee teams at the "AAU National Tournaments." And if you can give it like this......1st, 2nd, 3rd, tied for fifth, tied for ninth, etc., etc. or, didn't qualify for the main bracket, but attended. Don't need what they did in the YBOA, which at times can be just another invitational tournament. Don't need how teams faired in a super duper regional in Boise, Idaho. Don't need how teams did in the NASSTT, or the NABBCD, or the NATITT, or any other nationals, just the AAU Nationals. Don't need how teams faired in the Class B, Class C, Class D, etc. of the AAU. Don't want to hear about sandbaggers that went to a lower class just so they could do well, faired. After we get this list maybe we can determine what went wrong. My guess is that too many Tennessee teams or at the Nationals. Maybe if we only had 3 in each classification we wouldn't have the teams so watered down. Comments please.
  13. Well good luck to Lil Shooter. Congratulations for signing with MTSU. She will do well, cause she always has. Hope she breaks all the records at Bradley this year. I will look back in about a week or so to see how everything turns out in AAU. I had just looked over the younger age groups and didn't see much success like the old days. Maybe things will level out. If you go to the dog tracks, pick 3-4-7 on a trifecta. See ya, Let me hear from you.
  14. I have been away for a while. Just looking over the results of the Tennessee teams in the Nationals. What in the world has happened? Tennessee use to be the most feared and hated state at the Nationals. It wasn't unusual for 3 or 4 Tennessee teams to be in the sweet 16 in every age bracket. Am I missing something?
  15. Been a student of the game since she was 6 years old. Great ability, Great attitude and a Great young lady. Sorry I didn' t get to see her play this year. Knowing Hailey, she will come back stronger than ever for TWC next year.
  16. How can a team with such a recruiting advantage over other teams in the state evr have a down year?
  17. TheScouter2323, Please be nice. Kids read these post. I can't believe you would do such a thing. "The Lurch" comment. I hope you meant no harm and just picked the wrong word. I have coached and girls might look somewhat homely and mean on the court, with their red and sweaty faces, but later all dressed up and at the mall, they look downright pretty. Please smooth over your statement. I know this girl and she is going through the regular old growing pains of all teenagers. But if you didn't choose the wrong word then I suggest that the moderator of this site lift your post and watch out for your comments in the future.
  18. Dead Period - The week preceeding the fourth of July week and the week of the fourth of July. There can be no coaching, contact with, or observation by coaches with any players. All school's indoor facilities must be closed unless approved in writing by the TSSAA. What I get from this rule is that no coaches can sit in the stands and observe any of their players playing AAU during this period. Why would a coach want to fly somewhere with a team that they can't watch play anyway? As for as the gyms being open during this period, I would guess that would mean for other events besides basketball or that would defeat the meaning of the rule in the first place. What AAU teams were affected by this rule anyway?
  19. Quirk got the job at McMinn, and I think he will do an excellent job. He may be one year away from ruling the Region. In an earlier post, talking of the players, I failed to mention a girl named Boyd. She is a player, a senior, and a definite starter. McMinn is semi-loaded. Cleveland is ultra-loaded. They have an all-star at every position. The vote thing just might bring them closer together. Ole Rachel may have known what she was doing after all. Cleveland can win the state if everything falls into place. Same said about Walker Valley. Meigs and Bradley won't be far behind. What talent in this area.
  20. Hey Ms WarEagle, Haven't heard from you for awhile. How is lil shooter doing? Sorry to hear about ole Jack. Enough said about that. What about everything that is going on in Cleveland? Ain't it wild? If Holly wants to play with Cait so badly why don't she go with her to UT? And now Coach Bob going to Walker Valley. McMinn's starting line-up will surely be impacted by whom they get for a head coach. If Dodgen gets the job, I see a starting line-up of Brown, Toomey, Smith, Dodgen, and Stiles. If Quirk gets it, who knows, and if Bryant gets it.....oh well. Heard Aderhold had it in the bag but Clemson wouldn't let her out of her student teaching contract in South Carolina. Can't imagine Julie coaching McMinn anyway. That would be like you Coaching at Walker Valley Ha. Ha. I can't even begin to predict what this coming season will be like with the uncertain situations at Cleveland (The Vote), McMinn (Head Coach), and Bradley (Hurt feelings over Jack). Sorry to hear about Kristen not playing anymore, she could start for me anytime, anywhere. You mentioned Burkey not coaching during the dead period. Is everyone holding to that? And as for as Burkey, I can't believe how much I like the guy now compared to the way I use to feel about him when we were rivals. I hope he wins it all today. He is a heck of a coach. It is almost impossible for me to say this, but Good Luck Tennessee Stars.
  21. Well who is she, and what High School? So far all I am getting is quotes by Wes Moore (who is great), and talk of Pat Head Summitt and Geno. Today a story about the girl that signed with Tennessee that can dunk. I assume she is playing here this week but where and when is a mystery. Otherwise, why is she in the Times this week? If I want to read about the Lady Vols I will buy a News Sentinel. A good story this week would have been "Prospects in the Chattanooga area" and what AAU team they play with and where you can see them. "Top prospects in the Tournament and how our Tennessee girls stack up". Something like that. I guess tomorrow will be different since it is Sunday edition. Maybe a section on Pat Head's favorite deserts, or Trail biking in Greeneville with Lynn Burkey. Maybe a list of Wes Moore's favorite quotes. Man I can't wait.
  22. If anyone has ever wondered why Girl's High School basketball is so weak in Chattanooga look no further than the Chattanooga Times newspaper. A tremendous event, the 16 and under National Tournament, taking place here this week and you would never know it from looking at the Times. Surely I overlooked it, but I have found no schedules or sites, no boxscores of the local Tennessee teams, really hardly anything of significance. A few quotes from some coaches just to fill space. The Host team is not even from Chattanooga for goodness sake. As I mentioned earlier Chattanooga High School basketball is very weak. It does not have to be that way. But this is a real example of why it is.
  23. What is next? National Invitational Tournament. Everyone goes if they have the money. Is this all about eliminating YBOA or what? Are these super regionals in all states or just Tennessee? With 7 teams I suppose you have all the good players from the state, but ain't they spread thin? Another question, can you have a team of 8 year olds and play 10 and under?
  24. Am I seeing this right? 7 teams from Tennessee??? How did this happen?
