  1. Please, please, please, please, please, please hold this in the new Soddy HS gym and not the smaller wrestling arena. I'm beggin ya.
  2. Any new thoughts on this clash in light of the last month's results; Waddell over Tolbert 13-0 Tolbert over Cuthbertson 5-3 Cuthbertson over Creagan 4-2 Waddell over Cuthbertson 4-2 Wright over Creagan 6-2 Wright over Williams 4-2 Any idea when Stephens will be back in action?
  3. I've slept so the scores are suspect so help me out if you know different. Ooltewah over Red Bank 48-21 Baylor over Ooltewah 45-20 Baylor over Red Bank 52-15 The marquee match between Tolbert and Waddell was won by Waddell 13-0. Waddell looked really sharp while Tolbert appeared a bit flat.
  4. I've seen teams weigh in 2 wrestlers at the same weight for the flexability to adjust the match ups to their liking. Can't imagine why the blue would weigh in 4 at 112? Wait a minute, my bad... tie breaker criteria #131 - the team that weighs in the most wrestlers wins?
  5. DUST - 2006 TSSAA D2 state champ at 140 was Will Young and at 145 was Zack Goss. It's pretty unusual for athletes to get smaller from their junior to their senior seasons? Have they boarded up the weight room on Missionary Ridge?
  6. I can't speak for Bray and his rankings, but our team managers call the results into the paper after our dual meets. The paper isn't staffed to go out to secure the info and most of the coaches are too busy with their post match coaching responsibilities to do it. IMHO, every program needs a good support staff/person to keep up with this type of info and forward it to the proper channels for publishing. I also thought Hunter Daniels had an outstanding Central Inv tourney.
  7. Appears the Bears are peaking at the right time, boy the Soddy match should be great. Would anyone in attendance like to provide the specifics of the upset at 112?
  8. sweepit - Great to see you and all of the other OLPH alumn. I think if you totaled the points of all the OLPHers wrestling Saturday, we would have won the team scoring? Seems like I saw some of the Gene Mills stuff on youtube.com if you're interested.
  9. DUST - Seems like some unwarranted confusion on this coin flip stuff. TSSAA says your done after 5 matches in a day so the Central folks had their hands tied there. What I understood they were doing, was declaring a tie for 3rd and splitting the 3rd/4th place team points evenly which to me was the only fair way to handle it. The problem was what to do with the TSSAA supplied medals that were ingraved by weight class, 1st to 4th. They didn't have extra 3rd place medals to distribute, thus the coin flip. Therefore, you might have actually tied for 3rd but left with a 4th place medal. I don't know what else they could have done. Besides, most of these kids have so many medals laying around its hard to imagine the actual medal meaning that much to any of the wrestlers.
  10. sweepit - you might try knee sliding and attacking the hand on the thigh. IMHO, the underhook / half will take care of itself if you do the 1st two things.
  11. Not forgotten but missed.....come on back and join the madness again for the last month.
  12. Toj0 - Out of curiosity, where do head to head results fit into the seeding criteria?
  13. Congrats to young Mr Waddell on your signing and to old Mr Waddell on your new tuition relief plan. Congrats to BCB and Mr Soddy for your new battle cry, "Joe's buying". Are the Waddell's the only father/son combo in UTC wrestling history? Seems like maybe the Al/Pete Millers are also. Any others come to mind? Good call Ross - Mike/Josh Craft also.
  14. Does the GSSAA (is this GA's TSSAA?) limit the number of varsity dates per team per season? Seems like the TSSAA holds us to 20 dates and counts the JV attending a varsity event as one of those dates. Would be nice to see the JV not count as one of those 20 as it would increase JV opportunities in TN.
  15. Bear Cat - Based on the results to date, IMHO Hammonds would be considered the favorite. I saw the Bear/Owl match and McAlister fought from behind late in the 3rd to win showing no quit, so maybe your crack research team has more info than common opponents? 30 - 71 will be hard to predict as like yourself I've heard the Soddy men all certified for a weight lower then they have been competing to date. Those top 3 weights of Soddy will be tough for the Bears to not give up 15+ points. Should be an exciting match. What is the date, time, and location?
  16. RMC - Is this the same CN 103 that was in the Baylor dual?
  17. Not a hypothetical as they have had that situation the last 2 years and it has been decided via wrestle offs with the wrestlers determining the weight classes where they desired to challenge. The parents have nothing to do with it except to pay the tuition and expect their youngsters to get a fair shot which is what happens. If your interested, check out what Dan Gable did by reading "A Season on the Mat". Gable considered his over all team strength best by inserting a backup at 118 and keeping his prior years 118 up at 125. While these were scholarshiped college athletes compared to paying high school students, even Gable conceded the final decision to the athlete.
  18. Against my better judgement, but here I go anyway.... Radio - Please quit attempting to spread misinformation about Baylor. Unlike some of your beloved programs, the starting lineup is determined via wrestle offs. The WRESTLERS (not the coaches) determine the weight class in which they desire to challenge for a starting position. There are multiple wrestle offs scheduled throughout the season. One wins their way into the starting lineup as did Mr. Shuford at 189. Mr. Shuford along with all the other wrestlers are not pawns with which the coaches toy and manipulate to their liking. The coaches train (quite successfully) all 50+ wrestlers to maximize their abilities which has proven to be the core success of the Baylor program through the years. As a result, Baylor regularly has 1st year starters who are seniors (2 this year). Why do these young men plug away in a JV role for 3 years instead of giving it up? Because they have been treated and coached the same as if they were starting and they know they will get a fair shot to win a starting position each and every season. Can't you just push your grocery cart over to the Smyrna practice room? Maybe the new coach will let you fold the towels or wash the mats if you behave. At least then you could type about Smyrna - something with which you could have some first hand knowledge instead of these programs you dream about 200 miles away.
  19. RMC - Per the info sheet handed out today; McEachern Baylor Morgan County Ware County Northgate Murray County Based on your GA expertise, any insights on the GA teams especially the 103 pounders?
  20. Grissom's varsity was a no show, however Scottsboro has a quality team. I believe Baylor won 52-15, but it was much closer then the score would indicate. The 2 Cuthbertson boys lost great matches with Dostor (by 2) and Waddell (in OT). Their 285 looked really tough until Still got a foot sweep to the pin. All the close matches seemed to go our way today. Good luck to Scottsboro for the rest of the season.

  23. BayouBear - Unless there is a real travisty in the bracketing, Soddy and Bradley are clearly the class of the state (nothing new here) and will battle it out in the finals. If they are stuck on the same side of the bracket then I'm picking the Owls to make the finals.
  24. CHATTWRESTLING - Having a little trouble following you here with the comparisions of a youth league team coached by a volunteer to a high school program with a paid coach and how GC has anything to do with either? However, I do agree and am surprised that the Red Bank community which turns out in great numbers to support several of their athletic programs has not fully embraced the wrestling program. Coach E is a class act who gives his all for that program (heck, just notice the energy he brings to the coaching chair each match). If things don't change, then a more appreciative school will benefit from his services. IMHO, this falls directly on the backs of the current wrestler's parents as they are the program's boosters. All these strong programs with good fan support have outstanding parental booster support; Bradley-Bayou Bear and others, Ooltewah-Jake'sdad, ND-BCB and Harry, Baylor-Deaddux, Mntwrestling, Raider76 and others. Which of you parents at Red Bank are going to step forward to provide the type of support that program deserves?
  25. If the 2 pound allowance is the key, then are we likely to see a Baucke/Simpson match at the FR Inv?
