  1. Yeah we dont even get calls when we are at home or when we were playing city schools. When I coached at Craigmont those years we knew we werent going to get a call when we played in the county or at a private school. You should have seen the two years the Chiefs played Christian Brothers. They would just tackle the WR's when they came off the line. It was terrible, but I guess it is like that all over the place cause my buddy at Olive Branch says it is not much better down there.
  2. Trust me we are definitely not thinking about you guys. Cordova has run about three different offenses on film and I need to ice my arm after throwing the ball all week running their stuff. LOL. The thing is I dont get on here and talk smack nor hide behind a name nor do I care if we get any credit. I enjoy reading the Millington folks' posts, some I think are right on and some I do scratch my head at. With that said, one thing is for sure there are more Millington posters on here than from any other county school in the area and I do applaud you guys for that. It is just a thread and people will talk smack, but I would hope that if we were to beat you or you beat us either of us would graciously accept defeat because I know if we lose I will be the first to not make excuses. Just like the other night against Bolton, the refs had some very terrible calls, but there were a ton of plays we didnt make on the field so I refuse to use the refs as an excuse nor will I use the rain as one either. Yeah it does effect our passing game, but as someone said earlier, our passing game gets a lot of attention, but our running game is good as well. There are a lot of homers on here, but hey people need to be die hard about there teams. I just dont like when other teams are put down in the process.
  3. Here is the deal I am out there at practice everyday and trust me I do not think we are being cocky or arrogant or wanting people's approval. Yeah we have not played the teams Millington has and frankly I dont care because I havent seen one person get on here and say we were better than Millington. We play our schedule and we have beaten everyone on our schedule so far. Like I said before, we didnt call Frayser, Westwood and Overton and say "hey dont try hard and let us pound yall into the ground", they came to play and did play hard. Also I could care less if we get anyone's approval because I care about our coaches and our kids, not anybody's else. I would rather people keep saying "they didnt play anybody or whatever". My hats off to Millington for going out there and scheduling tougher teams. Yeah I know yall wish you would have won those games, but losing those games allowed you guys to see some things that maybe needed changing or whatever. We havent lost yet, but I guarantee you nobody over here is saying we are the best team or we are going to do this or that. I think we are a good team, not great, but good and hopefully improving week by week. As for our offense getting stalled out, even spread offenses have bad games because if a team just had to install the spread offense to go undefeated and win championships then everybody would be running it. That is why you also have a defense and special teams.
  4. I think it is easy to come on here and look at schedules and say well this team beat that one so they must be better than that one right? Wrong. You sometimes can't predict things when you are dealing with high school kids. Sometimes kids get up for other teams more than others. Melrose can just walk into a team's stadium and they would have the win without really having to step on the field. Some, not all, city schools are scared to death when they have to play the Millingtons and Germantowns. That's why they play the game. I dont take any body for granted. Yes there are some teams we have played and I have thought we should beat them and then we are in a dogfight. Ex: Raleigh Egypt. But hey that is why I love high school football and will coach until I am Paterno's age. As for my picks sorry KWC there are coaches who get on here that I know and I would not want to give bulletin board material or ruin friendships so that is why I decline to pick games. I will say good luck to everyone this Friday night.
  5. I am not sure if MAHS can go to the playoffs anyway. Dont think they are playing a full varsity schedule since they just started the football program, but I could be wrong.
  6. I agree with ya Dynasty, Tornabene does give us another weapon out there and our little sophomore running back #22 has 600 yds on the ground so far. I think Poole may lead the state in td passes, but not sure. I agree we are having a good year and hopefully can stay doing good things. These next few games are going to be interesting especially the Craigmont game for me personally since I coached over there 2 years ago. I still am friends with that staff and know most of the kids. Our scouting report should be pretty detailed that week. Haha. I appreciate the support we are getting from the Tiger nation. The Cordova game should be a tough one as well and hopefully we can get back to scoring a lot of points and keep Keaton Baker and the rest of the Wolves in check. Go Tigers!!
  7. Man that is a good question? I think everybody is pretty much even and these next games are gonna be like a mini playoff system which should be a ton of fun. If you look at Bolton they lost to ECS which is probably gonna win state and Craigmont which doesnt get near the credit they deserve. Cordova beat a good Craigmont and Brighton team, Millington has lost to some of the best teams around here and even though the season has not been up to normal standards they in my opinion are still a very dangerous team. So that leaves me with Arlington and since I am out there everyday I know more about them than anyone else. I do think we can win everyone of those games, but I am not gonna sit here and say it is gonna be easy cause its not. I know we are just gonna take it game by game and see what happens. I think all four are good teams with some good coaches and whoever comes out of our district will be very deserving of the achievement.
  8. I have to agree. This year there are teams that nobody thought would be as good like us here at Arlington for example. After a one win season nobody thought we would be here at 6-0 and yes I know people are going to say we have not played anybody, but I guarantee that those teams we beat did not come on the field and just let us walk away with the win. Also think these next four ball games are HUGE!! There are teams like Melrose and Millington that people thought would have better records so it is just one of those years which I personally like because even though I am a coach I am still a huge high school football fan in general and even though I may have a personal distaste for some teams if they make it to Cookeville I will be there cheering for them since I book my hotel every year for my pilgrimmage. I think West Tenn doesnt get enough credit for its football and I will pull for a W Tenn team every time no matter who it is.
  9. I will go with bottom heavy it doesn't sound as harsh. I do agree with you though, Millington has been the more dominant team in the playoffs and until someone else in the region starts doing better they will continue to be the sort of flagship school for the district now. We are hoping to turn our program here at Arlington into a program the caliber of Millington's and I do feel that we are starting to do that. As for the games I think the CBHS-Millington game is a toss up. It could go either way because both of them are good teams. MUS is a very tough team and East will have to play a flawless game. ECS will win in a shootout and go on and take home the gold ball later this year.
  10. I would not say the region was crappy and I am positive there are several of those crappy region head coaches that would disagree. Cordova had a good year last year, Craigmont lost 9-0 to a Whitehaven team that people thought would and maybe should have played for the gold ball and also the Chiefs played Millington in a tight affair as well. Ridgeway was decent and up to a couple of years ago maybe 2 or 3 Bolton had won the region like the last several years so I would not say crappy by any means.
  11. Well the Tigers pulled out a close one 24-12 over the Panthers. Bartlett came out fired up and did some things offensively that we had not seen and was able to really control the first half and keep our offense off the field. The halftime score was 10-6 and after some good adjustments the defense was pretty much able to bottle them up in the second half. Bartlett had some turnovers, one of which for a td, that really put the game away. I was glad to play a game where our offense was not clicking because I wanted to see if we could win playing defense and it happened so I am extremely proud of our defense. Offensively we played poorly at times although we did make the crucial plays we needed. With that said Bartlett is way better than an 0-4 team. They are a very scrappy bunch on and off the field. There was some kind of fight on their sideline toward the end of the game. Dont know what it was about, but my hats off to Bartlett for playing an awesome game all the way till the end. Good luck next week against Central!!
  12. Nobody is saying we are great they are just saying that we are a good team, not great by any means. I think it is funny that all of the sudden we are getting a little recognition and people want to come out and try to diminish that. If the attention is not always on their teams they certainly get their feathers ruffled evidently. Yes the teams we have played are not good , but I think Collierville is better than people think, but we are taking things one game at a time and if we keep rolling then we have to be a decent team, but we may very well get our heads busted tonight so we will see and if that is the case then I will be the first one to say we played bad and Bartlett played good. I don't make excuses, but I do hear them all the time on these boards.
  13. That Eric Gray you are talking about is an assistant at Craigmont. I agree people should not get on here and say things they probably should'nt. I post only things I feel strongly about and the thing that gets me is you will not see me on here talking about my team embarassing another or my team is the best or my team did this or that to another. I just dont like the arrogance I see from people on here. I do agree that this is a message board and people can post whatever they want, but I agree do show some integrity. Talking trash about other teams is far from it.
  14. I agree that anyone can beat anyone on any given friday night. I also like the fact that we are still not getting any respect. Bartlett is a good team with a heckuva running back. They do not do a lot of things offensively, but they have a stud so why not just give him the ball. The rain plays right into their hands although we are still going to run our offense. They may come out there and beat our brains in because it is a rivalry game. Bartlett will be up for this game. Their record doesn't mean anything to us. We will be ready to play as well. I believe it was Rob M or Mark H or one of those Millington guys who said after the jamboree that we would be staring 2-8 or 3-7 in the face. Well we aren't going to be one of those are we? We also aren't gonna be 1-9 again so there has been tremendous improvement. I understand we aren't getting any respect because we are not an established program and frankly I don't really care because it is earned out there on that field and we haven't been around long enough yet, but I feel we have a good team over here in Arlington. I will give my opinions of the game later on tonight and I assure you I will not make excuses if we come up short.
  15. I agree BTW is the by far the worst stadium in Memphis. Dyersburg has to be the best atmosphere in West Tennessee for a game. I am very partial to Munford's stadium and the additions and renovations they did to the weight and locker rooms were good.
  16. Went to the Western Kentucky 7-7 last year and it was pretty good. Well planned and we got to stay on campus in the dorms so the kids really loved it.
  17. I heard a quote from Kelvin Sampson, the former coach basketball coach at Oklahoma and Indiana, and he said he doesnt cuss at his players because he would not want a coach cussing at his son and that is the approach I take. I do not want a coach cussing my son so therefore I do not do it because there are some parents out there who may get upset off by it. Now I am not saying to not get on to a kid for a mistake or what not, but I just think cussing kids like a dog is going overboard. I do coach with some guys that do and that is there thing, but if I ever get a head coaching job I would not allow my staff to do it.
  18. I have coached in the inner city in Memphis and yes occasionally I have cussed, but I prefer not to. However since I do not cuss, the kids respect me just as much. I am more of a dungy type of coach and I hope to be a head coach some day and I hope my approach works then like it does now.

What is the problem over there? How come coaches come and go? If I wasnt planning on leaving the state next year, I would love to come coach there.
  20. Mcnairy Central- Jim Glover Memphis Wooddale- Marcus Rogers
  21. St. Benedict- Mike David Memphis Central- Ron Gaston Tipton Rosemark- Jake Linville Covington- Marty Wheeler Ripley- Al Pelligrino Munford- Matt Saunders
  22. Like I said earlier if I had some more years under my belt I would love to apply for it. That part of the state is very nice and it seems like a good place to raise a family. I am still a young coach so got to earn my stripes.
  23. Has anybody figured out how the playoff seeding will work? I know how the teams get in, but how do they decide who plays who and I am also excited to be back in the public realm playing teams that I know. It is gonna be fun to match up against you guys again at Millington.
  24. If I had a couple of more years under my belt I would have loved to apply for the job. Would'nt mind living there. Don't know much about it but I like small towns and Chattanooga is definitely on my places to live list.
  25. He was for this past season. The year before that he was the offensive coordinator for Joe Lee Dunn at Ridgeway.
