I appreciate the information...although it is not what I was looking for. I guess this answers my question about the interest in big 8 play this year (atleast I hope not).

Why don't I see much interest in the big 8 this year? I don't live in the area, so I look on here to see what is happening with scores, gossip,etc. Is it that a lot of people is not on coacht anymore? Are the teams not as fun to watch? Anyway, I would appreciate some feedback on Volunteer, Cherokee, and South boys/girls. Did I hear correctly that the ex coach from the volunteers girl's team back on the bench as an assistant? That doesn't sound right I don't care how you slice it! I don't care if the news is good or bad...just like to know! Thanks!

just wondering how volunteer is doing overall. i have heard they subdued to some injuries, but thought that maybe some excuses?.?. anyway, anyone have any thoughts? have they played a little cleaner than previous years?

I think this is ridiculous for tssaa to even investigate, while back in the spring Mt. Juliet girl's coach was on video coaching his aau team. Nothing was done...ridiculous.

UNTIL they put some worthy coaches in middle school for coaching girls basketball...i dont care if they put pat summit in there, they will never have a consistent competitive program in hawkins county schools. Meyers lives in greene county so...who knows. he may stay 1-2 more years tops! what do you think?

I know she didnt have the athletes every year, but IMO, i thinks it is past due.

What happened to Coach Price at Cherokee? I hear she is gone and the AD took over last week!

Dead on. I don't understand why people don't see how high programs are made...long term. Rick Insel of Shelbyville High School, now MTSU's girl basketball coach, had the same system for the elementary schools AND rec leagues, middle schools, etc...exactly like the high school. I guess that is why he won 10-12 championships at the state! anyway...we will see. do you know where they are having camps this year?

if the riverdale coach was sactioned from the tssaa...this deserves a lot more penalties than riverdale!!!!!! unbelievable.

Well...this topic has been up for discussion for several days...no response...i guess this answers my question about why they are not good. no one cares! lol

Good point. Not angry with the players...they just mock a lot what parents and family do. You are right about the pressure from parents will arise soon. I know of a lot of the upcoming players' parents...and coach better be careful about who he comes to be freindly with. I still think, if the county puts the two middle schools into better situations for better programs...it will weed out a lot of the problems. Again, I appreciate well intentioned coaches that coach long hours, etc at the middle schools, BUT it is time to put people in there that knows BASKETBALL and more importantly...KNOWS HOW TO TEACH IT. I do not live in East tn anymore because of family and job reasons, but I still know how things work in East Hawkins County. You are right about hiring an outside person, and I really do think he can do the job...I just wish they would let him "let go" all the staff that was there before he got there and hire in new everybody. Anyway...good response.

I do not have a horse in the race in this, but I just want to know. Why isn't smyrna softball ever covered in the newspaper? I can't hardly find the scores. Are they just THAT bad? It is hard for me to believe that all the athletes, boys and girls that come through smyrna...atleast be competive. Does anybody have an answer? Do they have a dedicated coaching staff, school backing, etc.? just asking.

what about volunteer? the freshman and sophomores stepped up this year. maybe after the seniors and thier parents are OUT of the school, coach and can implement what HE wants to. BUT the middle schools that feed into them better start stepping up and hire better qualified coaches to do the job too.

What is gp's record and how are they doing overall? Do not live in the area, would like to see how coach lafollate is doing. Anybody? good or bad. I am sure they are having problems with PF and GC, but looking to see if regions are possibe and how the future looks.

You may have a point here. The good news is that we all we have a regime change SOON! I am watching the A girls chmp on tv and the tssaa refs are HORRIBLE. It seems when a team has made it to the state several years in a row...they get better draws, refs, etc.! Maybe things will improve in high school sports in the state of tn in the future. I wish they would not have classifications at all. Kentucky, Indiana has ONE true champion...

I think he will do a great job, if he doesnt fall to the pressure of "the" parents down there. Hopefully he will remain head strong and do what he is doing.

what about the coach at volunteer? that program has been dead for years. does the big 9 give out any co coaches of the year award?

Does anybody know if the Big 9 will have any coaching changes this next year? just wondering. I would love to see atleast one of the big 9 boys teams make to murfreesboro this year! when was the last time db won the state? i remember playing them back in the early 90's and i really feel like they could have won a once or twice, the talent they had that came through. i cant remember the coach at that time...shipley or something like that...was right after coach van huss stopped coaching. anybody know?

this is exactly right. most of these games deserve so much better officials on what they get. "its a kids game"...tell that to the parents, fans, players, and the coaches that ge paid to WIN ballgames.

I have heard that GP is going to have a pretty good team this year. Maybe deep in regionals? Just asking...I do not live in east tn anymore...like to get some input. thanks
