  1. Hey, I came to the Meigs/Sequoyah game Thursday night. Sequoyah looked very good. Hopefully Coach Eller will get some guys interested in playing next year and get Meigs back to contending. Thank you for welcoming me back after my mini-vacation. I'm glad that I was missed here. I left early Friday morning for South Carolina to play some golf and watch Tennessee play (gag) against the Gamecocks. Well, at least the golf was enjoyable. I assume you're referring to my Polk Co. friends who post on here, with the 411 bridge remark? Shucks, I'm their hero, idol, and mentor. I was actually in Polk County today, and two of the places I was at told me to come back as I was leaving. I'm just the lovable type, I guess. For ALL region 3 teams: I wish you much success the Friday night!
  2. I agree with you 100%. We need more coaches who don't have to be so politically correct, and who are allowed to defend themselves against parents verbally abusing them becaue lil' Johhny or Suzy Q isn't happy. Gene is as fair as anyone and he genuinely cares about his players. He could care less about their last name or who their Mom or Dad is.
  3. You pretty well nailed what I have preached before the season even started.......and what I have received much disapproval for stating as such. Overall, this is a weak region - lacking the speed and skills to be competitive on the big stage. As hard as Central's coaches have tried to teach these young men, they didn't listen to the message. Some of Central's own fans have contributed to the problem by telling these young men just how great they are, much to the chagrin of several Central coaches........and it showed this past Friday night. I won't blame the loss to Howard on turnovers because those turnovers showed a lack of discipline on the Central players. This lack of discipline has reared it's ugly head a few times this season, and nearly cost the Chargers the game against East Ridge. Obviously they didn't learn a lesson from that game. If you have a good team like Central, you can play sloppy against most teams in this region and still win (which is a bad thing overall), but you can't play a team like Howard and get away with it.....especially since Howard played an exceptional game and executed their assignments better than they have all year. Howard's players were focused, and when Central served them the ball on a silver platter the Hustlin' Tigers had a feast. Howard was prepared extremely well for this contest, and the Central players thought they just had to show up. Lesson learned - hopefully. Actually, this loss should help Central - with the exception they have to play against possibly the best team in region 4.... this, according to reports from some people in region 4. DeKalb was the one team I didn't want Central to play in the first round......which is why the game against Howard was so crucial (Howard has a much easier opponent in the first round). Yes, Central can win this game. They have the talent, skill, and speed to do it. But they need to realize they're not playing the patsies from region 3 any more. They'll need to listen to their coaches and play with mental toughness and discipline. Central will be playing a team which is as good, or better, than the Howard team Central saw Friday night. How the Charger coaches and players mentally respond this week will determine the results on Friday night. I predict Howard and Central will prevail in round one. Polk and East Ridge won't.
  4. You stole my thunder (about Jeff Smith) while I was posting something else. Jeff roomed with Peyton Manning at UT, and I think I heard Jeff was working for the S&C coach at UT. Did Gary Moore ever make any NFL teams? What about the nose tackle (Robby?) who played for UT? From what I've been told by many Meigs fans who knew him, the biggest waste of talent from there was a big QB who played for the Tigers and graduated about 1980. On of the coaches who coached at UT then even stated this kid was one of the most gifted athletes he had ever seen, especially for his size.
  5. If Gene went back to McMinn to coach I would be shocked.....even with the new Super. Not that I agree with it, but I was told he would NEVER coach or teach in McMinn County again. I won't reveal the source, but will say the person who told me that is still involved with how McMinn County schools are operated. Gene is a good guy and a very good coach, but has got into trouble before with his caustic words and/or his temper.......none of it being directed toward his players, though. To be honest with you, I'd probably have responded to certain parents the way he did. I've talked to many athletes who have played for him at various schools covering sports, and the vast majority of them say he's a fiery, intense coach who pushes you to be your best in sports and in the classroom. And they said he's a coach they always knew cared about them! I think Gene deserves another chance in McMinn County, with the understanding that he MUST control his temper and choice of words to parents.
  6. I can't believe TJ will miss a game! Well, wherever he is I assure you he won't go hungry. I think he told me last week that his granddaughter is having her first birthday party on Halloween. I figure he'll have plenty of black and orange to wear for the occasion! Mitch hasn't missed many meals either. I like to tease them both because they're such great guys. Your community is blessed to have them!
  7. I've heard that Polk County has been talking to him about being their head coach. I'm sure that Coach Davis would stay on as the defensive coordinator.
  8. Thank you for letting me know that - I'll be there. Can you make sure I go through the food line before Mitch Vincent and Tim Jennings go through? I want to be sure there's some food left. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  9. Sequoyah fans: I'd highly suggest anytime you see "Meigs" and "food" mentioned, you capitalize on it. I've eaten several inexpensive pregame meals at Meigs' home games and have NEVER left hungry or disappointed. Meigs County has a very loyal following; a community pride; their teams have the best looking uniforms; and they're very graciuos host with the best cooks in the region. If I wasn't going to attend the Central/Howard game, I'd be in Decatur Friday night myself.....for a good, hard-hitting football game, as well as the food!
  10. 3A Football Playoff Bracket http://www.tssaa.org/2008Champions/StateFo...s3A/Bracket.htm I doubt that Central and Polk will be playing each other in the playoffs. Though it's possible, it's not probable. First of all, Central has to beat Howard and be seeded #1 in the region to get in the same bracket to play Polk in round 2.........assuming Central and Polk both won the first round. I think Central will win the first round, but I don't think Polk will. I think Polk finishes 3rd in our region regardless of their outcome with Notre-Dame (?). Am I correct?
  11. THANK YOU! I hope that everyone will search their heart and send it what they can. THANK YOU!
  12. Is there a fund being set up yet to send money to? I'm not saying that money replaces a child - it doesn't - but maybe some of these families need financial assistance? Or the school or some organization may even want to establish a scholarship? Just thoughts and ideas. If anyone can post the information on here (and hopefully the moderator will pin it at the top) I'm sure there are many who would love to do something to show our concern and love.
  13. You nailed it, OSC! The trash talking takes with a lot of players from BOTH SIDES whether these delusional Polk fans want to believe it or not. And in one of the cases last Friday night, it was a player from each team talking junk to each other. But what some people (Polk fans) didn't realize was that these two young men are close friends and were having fun. If the Polk fans want to think their coach is a god and all of their players are of sainthood, then let them remain ignorant and pious. I agree it's great to see an emotional coach on the sidelines at Central. The kids feed off of his energy. Brandon's confidence drives the Polk people insane with pure jealousy and envy, and I get a kick out of knowing that the Chargers get into their head and control their thoughts so easily! It's free entertainment! Next year these delusional Polk fans will have an opportunity to whine all season long after they lose to Central earlier in the season, which will make the season even more enjoyable. Total ownership of Polk will continue as basketball season begins, and we'll get to see even more whining and pouting from the folks down there. Isn't life great!
  14. Counterpoint 1: I'm still here and I can still post, and you're not God, nor a moderator, so climb off your high horse in trying to tell people what they can and can't do. Counterpoint 2: Strange that NO ONE else heard the taunting. I think Central was very focused and displayed their skills quite well during the game. If you Polk fans got your feelings hurt over being dominated in every aspect of the game, then you shouldn't have attended. Yes, you're as green as you can be with envy. Coach Derrick came in here and in only his second year he beat Polk and won the region.....something Coach Davis hasn't ever done. Virtually all the Polk fans ridiculed Central after they beat Central during Brandon's first year, saying he could never beat Polk....blah, blah, blah. Then you all tried to act like last years Central victory was a fluke and that Polk would come to Central and dominate them this year with their impenetrable defense and unstoppable running game. Yes, you were running that mouth, too! So, if your little feelings got hurt, then you have to look no further than the mirror to see the one who caused you to feel that way, because the person in there is the one who had the alligator mouth and hummingbird brain.
  15. Ohhhhh, so we have the ol' "wait til next year" mantra! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> If you prefer for Central to beat Polk earlier in the seaon, I'm cool with that! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  16. Last time I checked this was a free country and I had a right to post on here without your approval. Maybe if Obama gets elected that may change and we'll all have to be politically correct. Obviously from your post you're extremely jealous of Central's success over Polk, and feel the need to lash out when someone states the truth. It appears you think "class" relates to the number of victories. That's so juvenille and immature.....but I'll overlook it because I know you're still "touchy" over the game. Polk will beat Notre-Dame, which should make you happy the Wildcats met your expectations of winning 7-8 games each year.
  17. I think the Chargers will be as good next year as they are this one........and will be competing for the region championship every year that Brandon remains as Central's coach.
  18. Yep, that was Kelly Z. I was referring to. I met him when he was a wicked linebacker for the Vols. After the Meigs/Greenbrier game in '05 I talked to him after the game and complimented him on having a tough, hard-hitting defense......which was no surprise to me. I had forgot about his son being that old, and if he's anything like Dad he's definitely a playmaker! I thought your stadium was very attractive as it was, so I'm sure it's even nicer with all the improvements. I think the entire town of Greenbrier turned out for that game I was at. I've never seen as much green in my life! Great community support, reminiscient of the Meigs and Polk County's communities over here. When I was at the playoff game, everyone there was very hospitable before, during, and after the contest. Many Greenbrier fans came by to congratulate the Meigs players and coaches when they came out of the dressing room after the game. Very classy! Thanks for the information about your region 4 playoff teams. They've always been a nemesis for region 3 in the playoffs. Hopefully, McMinn Central can break that streak this year.
  19. Thanks! Looks like DeKalb has come out of nowhere! Sorry that Greenbrier won't be making it this year. I was over there in 2005 (I think) when Meigs County played Greenbrier in the first round of the playoffs, and really enjoyed the hospitality you folks extended to the visitors. Is Kelly still your defensive coordinator? How strong is White House and Station Camp? If McMinn Central can get by the first round this year, they'll probably be facing one of those two in round two. Central has improved a lot from last year and hopefully they'll be able to compete.
  20. How does it appear the region 4 teams will finish........qualifying for the #1 thru #4 playoff spots? I know it may not be totally settled until this Friday night's game, but give your honest and fair assessment. Thanks! Here, in region 3, it comes down Central and Howard playing for the top 2 spots in the playoffs.....and I believe Central will win. Polk Co. will finish 3rd, and I believe East Ridge will finish 4th.
  21. I agree that Polk's offensive play calling lacked much imagination - to say the least. Only one time, on that fourth quarter drive, did I see any spark out of the offense. But when they got down around Central's 20 it looked like they didn't know what to do. By the way, that drive netted 43 of your 77 yards gained against Central's defense. With Polk's limited amount of speed and skilled players on offense, they kept going to the same old failed plays over and over and over - much to the surprise of every Central fan. As far as the 4th and 8 call, you're right.....the Central coaches were hollering "screen, screen!" It fooled no one. Your defense played about as well as they could.....but only limiting Central to about 5 yards a pop on average. Knowing after the first quarter - and especially the second half - that Central was going to pound the rock between the tackles virtually every play, I did think Polk's defense would do a better job of stopping the Chargers. Perhaps the fear of Central's speed breaking one quickly to the outside played into Polk's tentativeness. By Notre-Dame escaping with a very close win over Grundy, I suspect that Polk will handily beat the Irish. I'm sure many of the Polk players are still very sore with the pounding they took on both sides of the ball Friday night, and I hope none of your players were hurt. After a few days the pain will go away and they should be ready to redeem themselves against a surprisingly terrible Notre-Dame team.
  22. Sorry to disagree with you, but everyone in the region knows what it's like to play at Bear Stadium when you have "your" refs. And let me correct you on something, although the refs might be from the Chattanooga Referees Association, the ones picked for your home games from that group are from Cleveland......many having played at Bradley in high school. No one else in the assocaiation cares because they know that Bradley can't win over 5-6 games even with them having "their" refs. I used to think this only existed there in basketball when Chip Dockins assigned the refs for Bradley's basketball games. If Bradley started losing too many games, ol' Chip would personally ref the games for them to insure they'd win. Again, you don't know how Bradley is viewed by others in your region.....and that view of playing against the Bears isn't one of respect for your program.
  23. Can anyone chime in and tell us about the game? I know Notre Dame isn't at the top of the region this year, but the close score surprised me. On a sidenote: I saw where the game was at Grundy, so I wanted to recognize the Grundy folks for having the best hamburgers in the region. Is the Road Supt. still heavily involved with the program? Great guy!
  24. I agree with you. Discipline, determination, and strength in the trenches are just some of the things Central has besides the speed that both teams possess.
  25. Alcoa: Ever how much they want to score. Loudon: Goose egg
