Darius Thompson is Blackmans top player. He is a 6'3 or 4" Point Guard/Guard. He is the leader of the team and makes players around him better. He is an outstanding passer and also a good scorer. He has been offered by Vanderbilt, Auburn, Butler, Belmont, MTSU among others I believe. Blackmans top two post players would be Quindel Cousin, a 6'3" very athletic forward and Justin Coleman, a 6'6" post player. What makes Blackman so good is that they are very, very deep. I would say they go 9 or 10 deep easy with very little dropoff. The outside shooting is very good and they can score inside and outside. They are an athletic team with good size with long arms and play good defense.

This is the new school in Murfreesboro. Will be in same district as Blackman, Riverdale, Oakland, Siegel, Smyrna, and Lavergne.

I questioned why they were not playing since neither of them appeared to be injured. This is why I asked this on coacht since I obviously did not know. Not meant to be derogatory.

I knew Alex had a lot. I was very impressed with Antioch, I thought they were a really athletic and well coached team. They had a couple of guards that were really good. We would not have won this game without Alex doing what she did. Do you know why Killings and Jackson didn't play? They looked healthy so I assume some kind of discipline issue. Hope they get everything straightened out and are ready for the next game.

Thanks DC. I don't want to jinx us but I'd say there is a good chance of this. Blackman has 3 of 5 starters from last year returning and a ton of talent plus Darius Thompson, who has been the leader of this team since his sophomore year. He keeps getting better and better but there is also a lot of athletic ability and talent around him. Blackman is very deep.

Time to get one of these started for girls basketball in 7aaa. I know Riverdale is the overwhelming favorite. What will all the other teams look like? I expect Oakland to be very good with Eubanks and Riggins back for another year. Riverdale has a ton of talent like always. Losing Barbee I don't believe will effect them very much. I watched Blackman tonight for the 1st time and they won a very tough game against Antioch 61 - 50. Blackman trailed for most of the game but pulled away in the 4th. Alex Johnson played a great game and I would say scored somewhere in the 20's. I was really impressed with Dangerfield at point guard. I was looking forward to seeing her play and she can really handle the ball well. She did not shoot very well but I believe this may have been 1st home game jitters. Also impressed with Bond and Miller underneath. I believe Blackman played without 2 of its starters in Killings and Jackson. I was looking forward to seeing Jackson for the 1st time but hopefully she will be back for the next game. Blackman is very, very young and will have a good year but probably will have its best years in the next 2 - 3 years.

Time to get one of these going for 7AAA. I watched Blackman tonight and I was very impressed. Will have a very good year. Very athletic team. A little sloppy with the ball sometimes but overall, very good. Beat Antioch tonight 73 - 45 or something like that. Blackman was a lot bigger than Antioch. Antioch was fast and athletic though but Blackmans size was too much. Whats everybody else got this year?

Congrats to Siegel. You have a great team. As far as the game, Blackman has improved so much over the year and this actually was a game until about the 4th quarter. 14 - 10 Siegel at halftime and it appeared we had the momentum. The score of 40-10 was not indicative of the game itself. It was really a much closer game. Siegel scored a lot of 4th quarter points when Blackman was desperate and having to gamble to have any chance. Siegel has too good an offense and turned the ball over too much. We needed to play almost a perfect game to have a chance and we didn't do that. Great job Blackman for improving as the year went on. There are some good players returning next year. Siegel has a good chance to go all the way, I believe. Great quarterback, running backs, defense.

Passing game comes and goes. Some nights it looks good. Some nights it doesn't. I would say Blackman is pretty balanced between the pass and run. We have receivers with a lot of talent and some good running backs. All year long, we have been turnover prone. Our best game was against Riverdale and we had 2 turnovers and a snap over the punters head in that game. Luckily Riverdale had 4 turnovers. We've had some games with 5 and 6 turnovers. If we can cut those out then maybe we have a chance. We do have a good defense. We have given up some points but when your offense turns it over so much, thats gonna happen. Hopefully we can give Brentwood a game.

I think I heard last night on the radio there have been 5 different district champions in the last 5 years in 7aaa. Oakland I think 5 years ago then Blackman then Smyrna then Riverdale and now Siegel. ( I might not have the order right.) Just shows the balance in 7aaa which is what makes this a great district. Nobody in this district has established themselves as the 1 and only and probably never will again. I agree with others that 7aaa is down this year. There is 1 great team in Siegel and several good teams. In the past there have been 3 or 4 teams out of this district capable of making deep runs in the playoffs. This year, probably only 1. I think coaching in this district is really good. One team is not going to dominate year after year because the coaching is so good with all teams. I think Aydelot is a good coach but some people at Riverdale have unreasonable expectations about how good Riverdale should be every year. Talent goes up and down every year at all schools. You can't expect domination like they had in the past anymore in this district. As far as the game last night, this was the 1st game that Blackman has won the turnover battle all year so that was a key. I've thought all year, that we would be a pretty good team if we stopped the turnovers. It didn't stop last night but Riverdale made as many mistakes as we did and it was better. We had 2 interceptions and snapped a ball over the punters head. Blackmans defense played outstanding. The offense was solid and came thru in the clutch.

It will be a fun year. If Blackman, Oakland, and Smyrna can all compete with Riverdale even with Barbee finally gone, this will be a heck of a district. I expect Riverdale to still dominate with all the returning talent they have along with the new transfer. I look forward to seeing Blackman. I hope they are as good as people think but they sound extremely young and probably are a year away of competing for district title. Oakland will be very good I believe with the experience they have returning. It will be fun to see smyrna competitive again.

I think I've seen this thread about 5 times in the past year. LOD complains about Riverdales coaching, compares teams to great teams of past, somebody mentions Maryville, Maryville then pretends they don't recruit. Then Riverdale goes out and makes a deep playoff run but loses to Maryville and then this thread starts all over again.

Well I don't see Blackman scoring 34 points on Riverdale since we fumble about 5 times a game but here's my predictions: If Blackman has 5 or more turnovers, Blackman 7 Riverdale 49 If Blackman has 0 turnovers, Blackman 21 Riverdale 24 Oakland 42 Smyrna 7 Lavergne 7 Siegel 42

I don't like it. I almost think it's more embarassing to get mercy ruled than to just lose big in a regular game. Its up to the coaches to show sportsmanship in blowout games and thus teach their kids sportsmanship. Also, you prevent the possibility of the greatest comebacks in high school football history.

Been doing that all year. I don't know what the problem is. We might actually be a pretty good team if we would stop turning the ball over. Tonight, we had 3 fumbles by the quarterback Smotherman, 1 by Allen,1 by Notgrass and also a muffed punt by Lilly. Its a good thing we were playing Smyrna tonight (no offense but yall are worse than I thought you would be) or we would have lost to most teams we play tonight. Also Cousins couldn't catch a cold tonight. At least he didn't fumble but I think its only because he couldn't actually catch the ball.

Hope your right. I think Cousins future is in football although he is a great basketball player. He has a football player body. I hear Coleman is 6' 7 but I've never seen him play. McMiller has been steady his whole career. Hope he can contribute and even score a little more this year. Dowdy was solid last year but I thought of him more as a streaky 3 point shooter. Hope he's improved his all around game. I've watched Darius for several years and he is no doubt the leader and very good. If he improves just a little, he could be a major d1 in my opinion. I know they do have some other returning players to add depth. Blackman should be very, very good this year.

Based on last years team, I wouldn't think they belong that high but I don't know anything about this years team. I know they did have some pretty good young talent. Typically, Riverdale is tops in 7aaa, blackman 2nd, Oakland/Siegel 3rd and 4th and Smyrna 5th. Last year, Oakland was 2nd and they should be very good again this year. I was unaware of the girl from Mt. Juliet that has transferred to Blackman. I did know of Crystal Dangerfield but I didn't know she was rated #1 in nation for her class at pg..

Congrats Bradley Central on a great win. Blackman/Bradley would be a great year round series if you guys were only closer. Good luck the rest of the season.

ok. what makes you think Blackman is gonna be that good. I know they have some good returning players and a really good freshman coming in but not sure there that good. But I hope they are. Surprised you had Smyrna that high.
