  1. I am still going to say, that in the city of Memphis an athlete can go from a private school to a public his senior year... What if a kids parents lost their job...and had to put him in a public school...your telling me the guy would have to sit out? I know that happened to two of my friends, one being a Best of the Preps candidate...
  2. MUS will struggle...i predict a win by either Harding or BCS over them...lost two great receivers and two linebackers. Not much of a strong line...everyone says their qb is one of the worst MUS has had lately...even though he passed for so much yardage...he had a princeton and a arkansas signee not to mention another senior receiver to work with. BA will be the best out of all of them...qb, rbs, wrs, and the best special teams in the state...possibly in the last 10 years or so.
  3. I think Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Lousiana and Georgia have better talent...possibly Arkansas...but TN should have more then 2 players on that list...problem is, I just don't know who else should be on the list...but there should definitely be more =)
  4. MaryvilleRebels thats true to a certain extent...but you go 9-2 8-3 in UT country your going to be looking for a new job...and the TRUE fans are the ones that are going to be giving you the boot. Fans are your best friends, or your worst enemies. I also think a true fan can be honest about how well his team is doing...its one thing to be confident, quite another to be blind...

I'm not a big fan of the SEC...I root for Memphis and only Memphis in football...But over the last 10 years...SEC would have destroyed the Big East...Georgia and Alabama have two of the best traditions in the entire country...also Auburn and Arkansas...then throw in UT and Florida especially over the last 15 years and that is better then the Big East. As far as Florida State and Miami being invited to the SEC, they might have...but Miami might have also been invited to the ACC, does that suddenly mean the ACC isn't very good cus Miami turned them down? Or Big East isn't any good cus FSU turns them down? Maybe the last two or three years you could say the Big East was almost on par with the SEC...but historically there is no way to judge that...Even Ole Miss at one time with Archie when they were in the national title hunt would be more superior then any other team in the Big East (besides Miami) right now. Why are you putting the Big East teams in the SEC West? They are EAST teams put them in the SEC East with UT, UF, and Georgia...much harder then playin Arkansas and State.
  6. I don't mind Ole Miss, but I never see them getting on par with a Kentucky or a Florida...just like in football, I'm glad they have Eli as their qb...but they will never be on a BCS level like a UT, UF, or UGA. A good year to Ole Miss is 8-3, and a great year is 9-2...you go 9-2 at UF or UT you are out of work...cus thats a loss to UF and a loss to UGA and third in the SEC East. When you are the third largest college in the state of MS...it's hard to compete at such a high level as some of the other SEC programs...But I do like seeing Ole Miss play...as long as they don't beat my Tigers or Vols. I think Byars is kinda lazy actually...it seems that because he is 6'7 and can shoot whenever he feels like it...that he doesn't try as hard as he could, I think he might have a big head also...but TJ has seen him play a lot more than I have.
  7. In 1996 St. Benedict went all the way to the Class A state finals. From 95,96, 97 these teams were consistently in the Shelby Metro Dandy Dozen...and in most cases a head of schools like Houston, Whitehaven, Collierville, MUS, and occassionally a Germantown. I rememeber seeing them beat Harding Academy in 96 14-0 on their way to state. Since that time Harding has beaten SBA by over 30 points in the last 4 years, including a few shutouts. Two years ago SBA didn't win a game, and an article was published in the Commercial Appeal in regards to how bad the program had gotten. The fans would cheer if SBA crossed the 50, or if they even got a first down...winning was never in question. This year SBA also failed to win a region/district game. So for the last two years SBA has not won a region game, and I really don't think they won a region game 3 years ago, losses would have been to Harding, Fayette, SBEC, Briarcrest, and ECS. They really don't even have a Catholic rival any more...CBHS is head and shoulders better then them, and Bishop Byrne pounds them in football and basketball, despite having probably 150 people less then SBA.
  8. Coach K at Duke learned many things from Meyer, he also refers to Meyer as a better coach and one of the best coaches in the nation(he even said Meyer was better then himself a few times)...in case you guys didn't know Coach K played under Knight at Army. Coach K did share in his book a story about when his father was diagnosed with a brain disease. It was two days before Army was going to play a really good team. Coach K didn't know what to do, and I believe he still was a young guy (freshmen or sophomore). He said Knight took him to the airport, and told him to take as much time as he needed off. Coach K did make it back in time for the game, but I thought that was a very nice thing by Knight.
  9. Nah, they go there now, practice and also have a deal with one of those basketball groups that trains kids. 10,000-20,000 dollars as you said would be over a thousand dollars per kids, which is more then enough money...(for any normal player I would think)
  10. OK, very good point...although I believe BGA isn't anywhere near that point yet in terms of enrollment. But I have been to BGA (unfortunately lost both times) and Franklin didn't seem to be real close to anything. I could be totally wrong but it's about 45 minutes to an hour away from nashville correct? Or atleast coming from Memphis it was...I guess my point is,BGA isn't near many schools anyway (in fact BGA plays Knoxville Catholic, Knoxville Webb, Chattanooga Notre Dame, MEMPHIS ECS, and MBA, as well as another school like McCallie...and Goodpasture). None of those schools are near Franklin, so I don't really see the problem we would run in to there. I have said it before, I think Volgen's plan is the best theoretically, but I just don't know if it would work for only football.
  11. What about that kid from Brentwood who transferred last year...Played runningback and basketball for them, was it Darius Barnes or something like that? He played this year didn't he?
  12. http://aauboysbasketball.org/main.html hopefully that will be updated by tomorrow.
  13. Dynasty? Germantown has won ONE state title and that was in 1983...far from being a dynasty. Germantown is good, but it's still going to be hard to beat Collierville, Whitehaven, Bartlett, Houston, Cordova and anyone else from West TN. I mean let's face it, it's just hard. Germantown needs really good play out of their quarterback, and their defensive line must do a better job. Houston was stronger and much more physical then them, the Gtown lineman even told me that. I think Germantown is a better team player for player, over Houston...but Houston is a better team overall. It will be close either way though.
  14. YOMCA hasn't been around that long. In fact I never heard of it till about 3 or 4 years ago.. I'm sure the Travelers are a really good team, but because they choose not to play aau, its hard to say how good they are. SouthernCal has proven they will win at the aau level (I saw them do it a few years ago with their 13's), and Riverside plays BCI, other great programs like the Milwaukee Playground Warriors also play AAU. I honestly dont care which team is better...the fact that the travelers use several counties and regions to get their players instead of just one like the Y uses proves to me which team is the best. And if the Y had the best players in the city of Memphis on one team...they would definitely play well if not beat the Travelers, I think Gomab would agree. Let us also not forget about the Bellevue teams from the early 90's. Tony Harris, Robert O' Kelley, Corey Bradford comprised the Bellevue Flames/ War Eagles who went on to win the AAU National Championship in 92? What many people don't know is the best shooter was Michael Black a former MUS standout. The trio I just mentioned later teamed up with Paris London (got cut by Bellevue in 92) to form the Idlewild Flames who also won AAU I believe...I know they came in third one year, and I think they won it the next. When those guys were playing, I think the Y was just starting to come around...When Harris was 17, it was him Bradford, and Terry Rogers (6'10 240 jr at East) going against a Paris London led YOMCA team that was significantly weaker then the Idlewild team..that was the first time I had seen the YOMCA team play, and they have gotten bigger and better since then, far surpassing any AAU team in Memphis. YOMCA's dominance can be traced to the fact that they are able to get guys from Fairley, Hamilton, Wooddale etc. In fact about 60% to 70% of the Fairley varsity is YOMCA's 15 and under team. Chad Henderson, Owens, and Sean Cromwell all start, and I believe their small forward also plays for Fairley, who is one of the best teams in Memphis this year behind White Station and Raleigh Egypt. YOMCA also has enormous money behind the program. The kids work out at Dean Lotz professional training facility. Lotz has a NBA floor and is responsible for training some of the best athletes in the world like Penny Hardaway, Mike McKenzie, Lorenzeon Wright, Isaac Bruce, Dwayne Rudd, etc. YOMCA also has ties to individuals such as Keith Easterwood and Bobby Dodd and this along with the fact that they have a contract with NIKE is very appealing to the Memphis kids. 15. Even if they beat the Y...they are using the whole state...if this was reversed everyone person East of Memphis would be cryin foul.
  16. I believe that team also won state...although my school should have beaten them in the regular season...up by 5 with one minute left...Brohmine caught an out of bounds lob and made it at the buzzer to win. They were good though.
  17. Not only did I hear them say it...I saw them say it...I hate BGA's the worst, but that is another story.
  18. Can a senior to be, leave a private school and enroll at a public school without sitting out a year or changing addresses? Let's say the answer is No, and John Q is a good basketball player...can he enroll at another school and try out golf even if he didnt play it at the other school.
  19. Father Ryan fans are really bad...they have very offensive chants....some dealing with Harry Potter and some to Lamp Chops, funny but still wrong. Brentwood Academy has some rowdy football fans as well.
  20. From Cookeville, to Chattanooga, loop threw Jackson, straight down to Memphis, back up to Montgomery and for a stop in Clarksville, the Ego has been to them all...Montgomery Central has some really funny chants on their walls...Why Montgomery Central was built upon a lake I'll never know...best gym is probably McCallie...I like USJ's gym as well, and Tennessee High has a great gym too...arbys classic is fun to watch.
  21. if you use the search directory just to see if anyone else has a better name then you...still second to none =)
  22. Swamp...if I remember correctly ELA's plan was just for football wasn't it? I thought thats what the focus of this discussion was about, but I could be wrong.
  23. Harding has a strict grading scale..95-100A, 94-86B,85-76C,75-70D...cant get too much stricter then that.
  24. Webb is good but they are probably the fourth best team in D2-AA and thats out of 8.
  25. One word...Melrose...used to be the most feared team in the state with Cedrick Wilson and Company throwin it down the field.
