  2. Really depends on what school system you go to. Wrestling is one of the High school sports that the TSSAA does not require you to be a faculty member. out of my 4 assistant coaches 3 of them are non faculty. Per our school you must go thru a background check. As far as AAU since it is a separate entity from the school team the school board does not concern itself with who is the Coaches, they just get background checked from AAU. As Steve mentioned earlier its really about the individual. Most coaches do not turn down quality help, I know I never do. it usually comes down to whether not an individual is compatible with the Coach.
  3. Hamm and I are starting up Freestyle and Greco Practices tonight and every Wednesday from now on. Starts at 6;30pm will last to around 7;45/8 Cost : Zero At Wilson Central HS Everyone is invited and all ages are welcome j Kramer
  4. Selection Process (very important must read): This year there will be an East/West Dual to select the team. Location: Independence High School Date: Feb 28th Weigh-in:9AM East Team Coached by Ben Smith West Team Coached by John Kramer Weights: Same weights listed above. There will be 5lb allowance. You will be expected to make scratch plus 2lb in Iowa. Example 106 can weigh 111 for the East/West Dual, but must be able to make 108 in Iowa (Iowa is a single day weigh-in). East / West Team Selection Process: - You must contact the coach of your region team NLT than the final day of the TSSAA region tournaments to express interest. - East Team will be made up of wrestlers from the Chattanooga / Knoxville AAU regions - West Team will be made of wrestlers from the Middle /West Tennessee AAU regions. If you’re unsure of our region just ask the coach! - Highest place at TSSAA state tournament in desired weight will be selected from their region - In case where a team has two wrestlers from different division (AAA and DII). Coach will see if there is an existing head to head. If no head to head, a wrestle off will be scheduled - Coaches do have selection preference as well. They will have one week to put this team together after state, so please know things will move fast. First off I didn't even have to offer a wrestle off. it clearly state that you had to contact me by the end of Regions and I also extended it to the end of the state tournament ( He Did Not) It also state the highest placer at State. Blackman kid was a state qualifier and ryan kid was not. I offered the wrestle off because I had happened to see the RYAN kid wrestle and thought he was pretty tough. During the season he had given my 132 a tougher match than the blackman kid. so I held only one wrestle off. Not at any time did I tell either kid or Coach that they had to make weight for the wrestle off which had to be changed to Thursday because Ryan kid did not show up for wrestle off on Monday. I take partial blame for that because I told the Coach where and what date to come for the Monday wrestle off but left off the time. So since I wasn't contacted to inquire about the time I took responsibility for that and rescheduled it. I don't make my team weigh in before wrestle offs but they have to make sure they make it on competition days. ON Sunday the blackman kid was well under the +5 weight allowance. I really do appreciate your concern and will take that into account next time. This is a lot to get together and organize with a lot of people helping g out. Let me know where you are willing to help out next season and hopefully things will go smoother thank you j Kramer

  6. I agree. But being devils advocate here. He has only been coaching a short time , couple of years. He may not have even realized he could do that. I started Coaching when I was very young - Head coach at 20 and I can tell you there was a lot I had to learn throughout the years. Its been almost 30 years and I still learn things each year that I didn't know or may have forgotten, At this point the best thing we can hope for is this is an experience everyone can learn from
  7. If the Coach truly believes he saw something the trainer missed and didn't believe his wrestler could go on and believed his safety was at risk and truly believes in his decision then he has nothing to apologize for. I know the trainer said he cold go but Ive been coaching for almost 30 years and ive seen trainers more wrong than they are right. They are basically making judgement calls and most times in 2 minutes or less , I have a hard time ordering lunch in 2 minutes or less let alone access a possible serious injury. just last year I had trainers telling me and my son he just pulled something in his shoulder and just need physical therapy next Friday he goes under the knife to hopefully repair it. A few years Back I had a kid that if he went out of bounds he fell to the ground as if he got shot by a sniper , you really never know. I feel bad for Russo and Im not saying the Coach was right or wrong but in his eyes he was right. As far as being reprimanded - for what? He didn't break a rule. the only illegal thing was the slam, deemed so by the ref. What Administrator is going to reprimand a Coach making a personal decision for the safety of a student/athlete. An unfortunate tragedy but no matter how much people complain and debate the issue, you cant go back in the past and change what has already been done. I congratulate Mr Russo on his ability to shake it off and continue wrestling to third. A lesser man would have walked away from it all after he had blown a fit, swore, thrown head gear , kicked over a chair etc.. Russo made a mistake and then faced adversity and overcame with class. Even though he is not a three timer that young man is going to go far in life
