  1. White Station beat the team, that beat the team, that beat Oak Ridge in the playoffs.
  2. The cities of Maryville and Alcoa reside inside Blount County. Maryville and Alcoa have separate school systems than the county schools. William Blount and Heritage are the county high schools. It is not uncommon for people affiliated with the county schools either dislike or despise Maryville and Alcoa. If Maryville High School was burning to the ground, they would bring marshmallows. The poster in question fits this profile. I think he touched a few WS nerves while taunting the Maryville fans. Personally, I believe that wild what-if speculation takes away from the game. I think that White Station was the best team on the field last night and won the game. I do not assert anything more. If you want anything more than sincere congratulations for that win, you will have to look elsewhere.
  3. This is the thread where you congratulate White Station on winning the 6A State Championship. Let me give you an example. Congratulations on your first state championship. This is not the thread where you take out your frustration on Maryville because your team hasn't played since Halloween.
  4. You have got to be kidding. Out coached? How about out atheleted? Congratz to White Station. A great group of athletes and we clearly had no answer to for number 4 and number 11. To the folks from SS and Tenn High who think they could play with White Station. Easier said than done, it is so easy to say that when you know you will not play them. We were rushing our front four only, because receivers were all over the field and he is most elusive QB I have seen. This may not be our best defense ever, but do you know how difficult it is to cover a receiver longer than 6 or 7 seconds? Try it sometime. The Maryville defense regardless of what you think of it got us where we were. PLEASE don't start the "my team could have done this or that". Your team got its chance whatever that turned out to be. To those whinning about the refs you have got to be kidding! If your quarterback scrambles for five minutes you are BOUND to get some illegal men downfield calls. White Station, while very atheletic was not overly discipline. JMHO. The only bad call I saw was when White Station tackled a Maryville player five yards out of bounds, with no flag but those things are always going to happen. Very proud of my football team. THEY WERE NOT SUPPOSE TO BE THERE LAST NIGHT. And I hope our folks manage to remember that fact. The Knoxville media picked us to finish third in our district behind Farrragut and Knox Catholic. I guess we started six or seven sophomores this year, and the season was a learning process from week to week and last night will eventually be no different. That is not an excuse, it is a fact. This is one of the youngest teams we have had in a while. I am proud of them. I know a lot of people love to see us lose so you guys have your fun. But 13-2 and State runnerup to a fine WS team in our first year in 6A? I'll take that any day. My thoughts exactly.
  5. Congratulations White Station. You definately were the better team on the field tonight.
  6. I have a question for any White Station fans that might know. I saw a video with their coach giving a post game talk with the players, and there was a lady doing sign language translation right next to him. Does White Station have a deaf player? It's pretty cool that they do that regardless.
  7. I would like to thank the Riverdale fans and players for the tremendous show of sportsmanship. Football is a game of emotion, and it is very easy to get caught up in the moment. Poise in defeat is a tremendous accomplishment. I truly believe that the character of your program and community is the source of your teams success and rich tradition. Please understand that the "Big Boy" talk is not directed at Riverdale fans. There was a lot of frustration pent up over the years. A quality win over an established 6A team like Riverdale is something our community has waited for for quite some time. We understand the weight of this accomplishment, and we point to it as proof that our detractors were wrong. I look forward to a long rivalry of mutual respect. I hope the Riverdale fans will come out to support us in Cookville next week. You are a fun group, and I would much rather have you our side than the opposing stands.
  8. Congratulations Rebels. Big win against a worthy opponent. Not a bit of quit in the Warriors.
  9. I think you are holding back on us. I believe I saw you taking KungFu back when they taught it at Tumble Bear Gymnastics.
  10. Come on over WAVE88 and just make a weekend of it. There is plenty of other stuff to do in East Tennessee. About 1/3 of Blount County is part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The most visited destination in the GSMNP, Cades Cove, is in Blount County. Rocky Top is located on the North Carolina / Tennessee State Line. 129 (The Dragon) a Highway with 318 curves in 11 miles leads from Blount County to North Carolina. We'll even tell you how to get to all the touristy stuff in Sevier County by going the "back way" from Maryville. The most impressive thing to see in Blount County though is STARSNBARS and his garbage truck NellieBelle. I'm on call in Middle Tn., Southern KY. with my job this weekend or I would be on my way. Thanks for the invite though. Will you guys have a link online broadcasting the game? WBCR 1470 "Truth Radio" broadcasts the Maryville games. They stream it for free also. I think they do a pretty good job and are very professional. Jeff Smith played for UT on the SugarVols team of 85.
  11. I think that is a pretty accurate assessment. However, the real strength of this team is their mental toughness. They can fumble on the one yard line, get stuffed on a forth down, or be down by 14 or 17 points and they won't skip a beat. The only time I have seen them hang their head was after the Alcoa game. And they didn't do that until the last tick of the clock. Watching MHS is kind of like watching a James Bond movie. He might be hanging from a helicopter skid or jump out of a plane without a parachute, but he never panics. That is why I think this will be a great game. To beat Maryville you will have to beat the entire team for 48 minutes. I am sure Riverdale will do their level best to achieve that on Friday. It should be High School Football at its best.
  12. My condolences to De'Andre Purty. He gave all he had for his team under the worst of circumstances.
  13. Good Job Rebels. I was worried about this game. Our D-tackles were really banged up from last week. There was a lot of grit and determination in this game both individually and as a team. These guys play with a chip on their shoulder. Everyone on this team finds a way to get it done. I agree that this team is not overflowing with god given talent compared to previous years. However, as a team, they are incredible.
  14. Good Luck Rebels. I think the Maryville defensive front 7 determine the nature of this game. They need to stop the run and put some pressure on the quarterback. That was the difference in the first game between the first and second halves. Farragut still was able to run the ball, but it wasn't as consistent. The Farragut O=line usually does a great job in keeping pass rushers out of the backfield. I don't think the Farragut quarterback is used to being pressured. Most of his bad decisions in the second half were when he was under pressure. You can't just chuck the ball down field into coverage against Maryville.
  15. I heard GQ on the radio tonight talking about he atmosphere at the school being different this year. I have also noticed that there seems to be an excitement this year that has been missing in recent years. We can always get louder, but this team gets a lift from playing at home. There are people that still sit on their hands, but there are a lot more people this year that don't have a voice on Saturday morning. Maryville has won all 6 home games this year and has scored 217 points while only allowing 36 points. Half of the home games have been shutouts. The average margin of victory is 30 points. It may just be a coincidence, but I firmly believe that this team gets a tremendous lift playing at home. The team had a great week of practice, and will come out with a chip on their shoulder. Tonight Mark Packer said he is still waiting to see how Maryville plays in the playoffs against the 6A teams. The Rebels should come out focused this week. They are taking McMinn County very seriously. Maryville would like to be able to play Alcoa again and have an opportunity for a different outcome. So they understand exactly how much McMinn Co wants to redeem themselves. Let's get loud this week! Don't forget the human tunnel. Go Rebels!!
  16. I think that this will be a great game. Maryville was still trying to find themselves on Defense last time. They had a simple plan to keep Ables contained by keeping the front four in their rushing lanes and made sure there was ample coverage downfield. The linebackers were focused on run support. This gave him tons of time to throw the ball and usually the short pass was open. This allowed them to move the ball some, but once they got into the redzone they had trouble. I believe that Coach Gaylor can try a few things since the front seven have matured. I would expect to see Maryville throw in the blitz and stunts to get pressure on Ables from time to time. However, I still think that the focus will be on stopping the run.
  17. Congrats to GQ and his tremendous staff. This is not a team of tremendous athletes, but this a group of very good football players that have come together as a great team. That is the true testament to the program.
  18. It was 24 to zip in the first half and MHS looked very good. There were already plenty of substitutions going on on both sides of the ball for Maryville. Maryville started the second half with the complete 2's. The Lenoir City 1's had some success and got extremely fired up. Our second string quarterback ended up with a dislocated elbow and things just got ugly after that. I don't think that Lenoir City had much of a chance of winning, but they forced the return of the 1's to finish the 4th quarter. If MHS and the Owls meet in the playoffs, I don't think it would be wise to look at this game film for guidance.
  19. Congrats Rebels. I love this defense. They get better every week. WB and Heritage scored a combined total of 0 points against Maryville this year.
  20. Congratulations. Great win. The Rebel Nation salutes you.
  21. He has always lived in the city since I can remember. On a side note: His grandfather was the principal at Friendsville High School and was famous for saying, "If anyone can't hear these announcements, please send someone to the office." Thanks for keeping me straight. Now that I think about it , I believe that I pass by his house when I go the back way to my neighborhood, which is in the city.
  22. I know in years passed there has been plenty of discussions concerning tuition students. However, it is harder and harder to be a tuition student.Teachers , city employees, and non-resident land owners all have priority. And if there is no space they don't get in. I personally believe that if you are David Douglas that you are going to get your kid to the football program you want even if you have to move. If you have any contact with the Maryville coaching staff you realize that they are not out beating the bushes for kids. If they were, the University of Kentucky football team might have a lot more Maryville High grads. That argument aside, this years MHS Rebels are almost 100% home grown. The quarterback and the right defensive end were opposing quarterbacks in the city 11-12 yaer old football championship. All the senior linemen and most of the other starters played baseball at Maryville Little League. Our backup quarterback is from the county, but I believe his uncle is a MHS coach, and his parents have been friends with the head coach forever. I think you would be hard pressed to even find the appearance of impropriety with this years team's roster.
  23. It is hard to believe it is here already. I will be there with my Senior. This is a special game for my son because he has a lot of friends from WB. WB is a team with a lot of pride and I saw how hard they played Catholic. I don't think anybody outside of Blount County realizes that this won't be an easy game. However, Maryville Coaches are good at playing against a team instead of a team's record.
  24. Just wanted you to know that this post ended up on some of the Maryville player's refrigerators. Don't underestimate your part in the Maryville win. hahaha That's just pathetic that the Maryville kids have to use coacht.com for motivation . Thats not a sign of a very well coached football team. Just speaks volumes about this program. These kids have great pride in their tradition, coaches, and themselves. Finding motivation from those who don't respect that is definitely a sign of good coaching. Pathetic is spewing ignorance and hate for fun. Coming back from 17 points down against a good team is what speaks volumes for the program.
