  1. Just wanted you to know that this post ended up on some of the Maryville player's refrigerators. Don't underestimate your part in the Maryville win.
  2. Getting past all the negativity. Farragut came out as advertised. They have very great athletes, and great linemen. The Freshmen linemen will be unbelievably good in the years to come. I am glad we didn't play Farragut earlier in the season. Farragut did not loose this game because they lacked preparation or heart. They lost because: 1. When Maryville started executing on both Offense and Defense, Farragut tried to make plays that just were not there. When you throw into double and triple coverage consistently, bad things will happen. 2. The Maryville Offense found ways to get the match ups they wanted. The trick play at the goal line(Phillip vs Air), the reverse using a receiver that has never ran the ball this season, and getting our receivers matched up on linebackers. 3. The Maryville kids started executing on every position on the field. The D-line was getting penetration that they didn't have in the first half and the O-line opened up holes that weren't quite as wide the first half. The DBs that had the secondary receivers in single coverage were always in position. The backs and receivers were making blocks to give Phillip an extra second or an extra step. I look forward to this rivalry in the years to come, and I wish both teams a deep run in the playoffs. Either team would do a great job representing East Tennessee in the 6A championship.
  3. When Maryville fans complain about watered down sidelines in a win, they are making excuses. When Farragut fans complain about calls after blowing a 17 point lead, let's wait until we check the internet feed. Way to man up. Maybe if you weren't in the Federal Protection from Greyrider program you could have came to the game.
  4. Whatever, it still doesn't change the fact that the inferior Ref Rebels had to have cheating occur in order to win. Big Boys don't cry.
  5. I am not big on score predictions. This game will most likely be pretty hard fought. We have had similar results versus our common opponents. Farragut has great athletes in the skilled positions. Although there are some that claim that Maryville is down this year, quite a few athletes have emerged. The team has improved each week since the Alcoa game. Both Maryville and Farragut platoon their linemen. Both are well coached. Maryville has problems with the run from time to time, but so far nobody seems to be able to run effectively for the entire game(Since Alcoa). They seem to have more problems with traps and pulling than base or pass blocking. Farragut has a good O-line, but they keep things pretty simple. Maryville has a very balanced Offence that takes what is given. Phillip will not try to force things that aren't there. He is not afraid to tuck it and run for two yards instead of a risky pass. Sometimes they start the game out of sync, but the entire games against McMinn and Bearden looked smooth. The good thing is that they are very resilient no matter what happens. I hear that Maryville had great practices this week, and that is usually a good indication of how they will come out on Friday. I think Maryville gets the W, but this will be their biggest test so far.
  6. I guess everybody is entitled to their opinion, but your math is a little shaky. 45-10=35 3 x 7 =21
  7. I do however know quite a bit about irony. You are on a thread about two teams you have no connection to harassing people because they don't have a close enough connection to their team to make statements.
  8. Hold up there Brandon Warren, You know how your pet peeve is having someone disagree with you? Well mine is having someone say "we" when they have no connection to a school... Let's face it, did you graduate from UT? The ans is no. I cheer for my HS & my College ,,.. I am a fan of other programs as well... But I don't say "we" like I had anything to do with it. I don't like people on a bandwagon. If you are & you don't want a reply from me, don't post. As for the troll comment, I am starting to wonder if you are even an American.. We can give opinions relating to football on here in a controlled setting of course. I also remember another Bladerunner quote: My team will be at the Burro, They carry the condederate flag. My pet peeve is you. You are no fun and never will be.
  9. Congratulations Michael . I think he has been playing varsity since he was 6. He is an excellent football player and leader. I hear he is a great kid even when nobody is looking, and that is why he would make an outstanding officer.
  10. What does Maryville do when it rains? They can't play when it's wet? I guess the opposing team does a rain dance, & then that's the conspiracy. The sprinkler system managed to soak the visitor's sidelines only, and they then put sand down making it a gritty sloppy mess. The same thing used to accidentally happen at Central. Rain falls on the just and the unjust alike. Sprinklers only seem to malfunction on the visitors sidelines.
  11. Only time will tell, but they had a pretty good showing tonight.
  12. The one who died is not the Jeff Smith of Maryville. http://www.volunteertv.com/news/headlines/62203497.html
  13. GQ wouldn't let it rain unless it was to his advantage.
  14. Oak Ridge at Maryville. They haven't played since the 60's. They are two very young teams that had bad losses in their first game this season . Oak Ridge has a new coach that previously coached Hillsborough. Hillsborough defeated Maryville in the 4A state championship last year. This is a Thursday night game that will be on television. This game hasn't gotten a lot of attention, but both teams will bring their A games. This should be a very physical matchup.
  15. Why would you have to pick one or the other? Those are mutually exclusive events. I am starting to have doubts about your Debate Team credetials.
  16. Would you say that Greyrider is a typical Maryville fan based on what he said? I can't wait to hear your response on this one. You do seem to bring out the best in all of us, and I'm sure that is your intent. I still haven't seen you root for anything yet.
  17. Oh, Come on Monte, I mean are you saying that a Father who went to another school, would come on to their kids message board-- who is at another school & talk trash about a record that they have nothing to do with? Did your father do that? I know my Father did not. But you are talking trash about the Maryville / Alcoa game which you have nothing to do with. Pepvol roots for Maryville. You just spread hate and discontent. I haven't seen you actually root for any team.
  18. Here we go again, read my lips Greyrider, you have nothing to do with Maryville .. Why would you jump on this poor poster when you do not have a dog in the fight? Hey-- East Tn fan, this guy is from Central, he is on the bandwagon.. Greyrider you said "we will see when we get there" RE: Catholic & Farragut, Are talking about Central playing them? You need the meds, you are not from Maryville, you are just a wanta be... a wangster.. No, you're a towel.
  19. With game day..........and a wet field...... I change to: Maryville 35 Heritage 7 Keep improving Rebels........I want to see Catholic and Farragut get hammered! hahahaha your crazy to think maryville even has a chance to beat farragut! Your gonna have to go to church 7 days a week to even have a chance and even with that much prayer your S.O.L. sorry boys this is 6a football not that cupcake crap your use to in 4a. Including playoffs your talking about teams such as farragut, catholic, Ooltewah, bearden, cookeville, oak ridge, and oakland. this isnt halls anymore. all these other teams recruit just as much as maryville if not more. plus they have a bigger area to recruit from. dont expect to go undefeated in the next 10 years or more. predictions heritage - 10 maryville -7 farragut - 28 maryville - 3 I would be more concerned than Maryvile if my 6A team was 21-74 this decade. And don't forget that Heritage has been part of that cupcake Maryville schedule. Also Heitage has put up a max of 7 points against Maryville and Maryville has put a low of 35 points since the 2000 game. Maybe that is why people move to Maryville if there kids want to play football. Also if you press the "shift " key it capitalizes the letters.
  20. I still think that is too early to tell how good the McMinn Co. team is. They have a very good O-line and a lot of great athletes. I think how important or trivial this game was won't be fully understood until later in the season. Sometimes you have to wait a little for the hindsight to really kick in. Congrats to Maryville on another win. This game was vintage Maryville football. They neutralized the other team's great player, and they didn't even flinch when something bad happened. They drove 60 yards and fumbled, but they never doubted themselves for a second. These two things have always been the key to Maryville success.
  21. Spanky Smith was the "Move them chains guy". He is from Maryville and helped coach Maryville Middle School when many players of this team went there. His Mother has been sick for a while. Towards the end, he was by her side except for the games. She wanted him to go to the games because she couldn't get there herself. She finally passed away this week. I really don't think you had any idea about this. However, when your main goal is to spread hate and discontent you will eventually go to far (intentionally or unintentionally).
  22. Congrats to Hillsboro on their state championship victory. They played a great game. I am proud of how Maryville played tonight. I never saw any quit in any of them. I am also proud of how our guys carried themselves in defeat. I watched the recorded game with a few of the players tonight. They were heartbroken, but they didn't make excuses. They also didn't turn on each other about the mistakes that were made. I think that speaks volumes for the character of the team. I would also like to thank the Seniors. They gave their all and showed true leadership. Losing only one game your High School career is quite an accomplishment. I looked forward to next football season. I think the team will take what they learned from this defeat and will become that much stronger. The ability to take an honest look at your weaknesses and to improve is the real value that the boys get out of this program. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  23. I don't want to start a range war this close to the state championship, but here goes. The percentage of Maryville football players that grew up outside of Blount County is relatively small. Of course there will be some because Blount County as a whole is growing dramatically. The attendance numbers for all of the High Schools are up from the last reclassification. By percentage Alcoa +15%, Maryville +12.6%, William Blount +21.8%, and Heritage +12.6%. In years past, there have been some notable players that have moved here from outside. But my son grew up playing Little League Baseball and Parks and Rec Football with Smith, Trenda, Young, Juhlin, Harris, Lairamore, and most of the other boys on the team. I wish them all the best this Saturday. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  24. Actually, the TSSAA says 1,555. The 1,381 is from the last go round of classifications. http://www.tssaa.org/allclasses.pdf
