  1. You may want to find out a little more about the teams you are referring before making such a BOLD statement. I don't know much about Oakland but I can tell you that Ooltewah may just have the strongest defense in the state this year. They are big and they are fast. And don't even think about running on them, just ask Faragut as they only mustered -3 yards on the ground against them. Faragut had been putting up huge numbers on the ground against a lot of other good teams. Looking forward to Oakland this Friday and hopefully meeting one of the west TN teams in BORO. Go Owls!
  2. Actually the "Rocky Top" fight song was first used in Chattanooga by, at the time, The University of Chattanooga. Tennessee actually copied it from them. The Owls are just showing support for their heritage. Great game Friday night and both teams showed why they have made a run for the title. It was the best defensive showing by any school(s) this season. Go Owls!
  3. The old saying is to leave it all on the field and Soddy did just that last night. I don't think they could have played any better. They had a great run this year and E.K. Slaughter should be up for coach of the year with what he has done with that program. The Owls are winners and they just find a way to win. In NO WAY will they be over looking the Admirals. I see this being another nail biter Friday night with the Owls coming out on top. I would also like to state, #36 FOR THE OWLS IS THE UNDISPUTED BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER IN THE STATE. And #7 of Soddy might just be the best two way player in the state. Go OWLS!
  4. Finally a district that the Owls can play all three major sports against. I like having rivals that you get to play football, basketball and baseball against. It makes for better viewing and you get to see who has the most versatile athletes.
  5. I think Ooltewah, Cleveland, Soddy Daisy, Walker Valley, McMinn County, Rhea County, and Bradley Central should be in the same District. What you have for these teams does not make sense. Too much far away traveling.
  6. I would like to see Ooltewah take it this year. It would be their first in football and it would keep their state title run going. They won in softball and track last year. Maybe they could take football and baseball this year. I will say this... if Ooltewah plays in the title game, there will be a large crowd on their side as Ooltewah always travels well with their team.
  7. Since this game is being played at Mapplewood.... I have to go with Mapplewood. To all you Rossview supporters, get your ticket and make the trip. You will get your monies worth by just listening to their announcer. He is the best! Good luck Mapplewood! ...it appears you have a lot of Owl fans pulling for you guys.
  8. I bet you can get a two for one deal with Tommy and Terry Bowden. lol
  9. Soddy's problem with the run was because #22 POLK for Ooltewah is something special. We have had many great RB's over the past 10 years but POLK is totally different from anything I have ever seen. He is patient and allows his blockers to make contact... then he hits the high gear and smoke rises from behind his cleats. I would not judge their running defense by what happened to them at Ooltewah, but if you have a POLK like runner, then you should do pretty good. Ooltweah only passed the ball 3 times. A balanced attack like Farragut had caused SD alot of problems early.
  10. I played for a team that won the state many, many moons ago. This was our offense. It takes a great QB who can take a lot of punishment and a good sense of where his tailback is to pull it off. When we played this type of offense, we assigned players to each back. DE took tailback and outside linebacker took QB. This way both defensive players would hit the ball carrier with maximum impact causing a greater amount of wear and tear. For fun... our coach would blitz a CB to take out the QB on occassion. OLB had the flat responsibility. This would keep him guessing on where he was going to get hit from. Looking forward to Friday night.
  11. Silverdale has to rely on too many Sophmores to get the job done this year. TC will take advantage of the situation and get plenty of experience for their Sophmores after they remove their starters in the second quarter. I think this could be get a good rematch in a couple of years but it will be one and out for the boys of SBA. On a positive note for SBA... you will have your basketball players back on Monday.
  12. If I am Soddy, I get the ball in the hands of #7 as much as possible. He IS your play maker. If you play like you did against us the first half... lights out Bearden. Good luck!
  13. Yes, we play at home for at least two more games if we keep winning. I would definitely think that the 12th player (THE FANS) will make a difference in every game. I hope that the band will be there throughout to keep the noise pumped. They didn't seem to play much last Friday night. Maybe they were saving their breath for the competition the next day.
  14. I totally agree about not getting him hurt. I seem to remember losing #5 Marshall one season before the post season because he got hurt returning a punt when we were up by over 40 points. From what I have seen, we don't loose much when we go to #25 or #43. That was all WANT TO on that touchdown by #43 Friday night. Give Polk a break and turn him loose the next week. What a talent he is. Is there anything #36 can't do? I want to see him get the ball up the middle sometime to see how many players he will drag to the endzone. Great catches Friday night. Go Owls!!!
  15. Not an OR fan but when we played them they did not use the talent they had in a way that would help them win. You can not hang that on one the players. I would think that their coach would want to go somewhere where his style of coaching could win more games. I am sure he would like a break as much as the fans and players. Good luck OR next season.
  16. Hitting a kid hard and taking him to the ground behind the line of scrimmage.... that's good football. Reaching a hand out to help the kid up... that's class. Go Owls!
  17. Bearden will have its hands full as Soddy's new coach has taught these boys how to have a winning attitude. The top three out of Region 2 are some of the best in the state. Good luck Bearden and buckle up, it will be a rocky ride to the next level in the playoffs.
  18. That had to be the most amateurish officiating I have ever seen. Why were these guys doing a region championship game? They looked clueless all night. Good fight SD and GREAT job Owls!
  19. The answer is simple. Three JV games last year and ONE JV game this year. These kids aren't willing to get their heads beat in every week for no playing time. With that said, I think the Sophmores that stick it out through this time will be great players come their Junior and Senior years. Look at this years junior class... point made. Go Owls!!! I agree with Horned Owl... finish this by halftime. That will also make sure all of our players see enough real game play time to get the experience they will need for next year.
  20. If he is zoned for a "Failing" school, then he can enroll at THAT school's assigned "Sister" (or passing) school only. If he is zoned for Ooltewah, then he is not zoned for a failing school. I do not know about Central, but I would think they would be assigned to Ooltewah as their "Sister" school.
  21. Chattanooga's best recruiting practices include each public school having ONE class that is not offered at any of the other Hamilton County schools. This allows any athlete to go to public school of their choice as long as they sign up for that class and get the principals approval. This is what I was told by a North Chattanooga area high school coach. In other words, the private schools are not the only schools recruiting and that is why you see kids playing at one school one year and another the next. Red Bank picked up two aseball players from Ooltewah because they did not like the guy who was coaching at that time. They ended up leading Red Bank to a win over Ooltewah in the season closer. The only clear cut exception is the "No kid left behind" kids. Each failing school is assigned a passing school in which those kids can choose. Their "Sister" school (the passing school) has to provide them transportation to and from school. This is killing the passing public schools with over crowding. I am not sure but I think that there are only FOUR passing PUBLIC high schools in Hamilton County. These do not include magnet schools. All kids deserve a good education but the government tax money given to the school where the kid is zoned DOES NOT follow the kid when he changes schools. The end result is why there are more private schools in Hamilton County per capita then anywhere else in the state.
  22. We have decent size band, 20 cheerleaders, and 20 dance team girls. The band adds a lot to the overall atmosphere but they do not travel to most games. I hate to say "they" because I know that a lot of the band members really enjoy supporting the football team and participating at the games. But our schools band director doesn't seem to take the games seriously. It is a shame, because that is what creates anomosity between the two identities. As for the cheerleaders and dance team members, they are not as loud as the band but they are always there. If you look back in history, you will find that a winning football team has a strong band, cheerleading swad, and last but not least, strong community support. Go Owls!!! P.S. When I use to coach travel football (little league) I taught my players to go thank the cheerleaders for coming out and cheering them on. Imagine what it would be like if the players where taught to thank all identities after each game in high school. I would think we would not need to have separate threads. All bragging on each other... SUPPORT.
  23. Next to the Ooltewah vs. Soddy game, the Tyner vs. Boyd is the game to watch this Friday night. This game will be to close to predict but the team that has the least amount of penalties will most likely win because of field position.
  24. It was not the entrance that was impressive but the exit that got my attention. When we played Maplewood, when the game was over and all hand shaking was done, their band paraded the band and their fans out of the stadium. In addition, you will never hear a better P.A. guy in high school football. He really gets into it and makes every play entertaining.
  25. Prayers go out from Ooltewah. I hope Erlanger has gotten better with their service since I had to take my wife in with heart problems back in the spring. It took them forever to see her. I do know that there our some really good doctors there though.
