  1. You are correct about Hancock not returning a game to Cosby a couple years ago. Weather and the failure of both head coaches to agree on a make up date, with the dist tourney fast approaching was the reason. you are also correct about this being a BIG $$$ gate for cosby. However if I rem correctly the AD at Hancock sent Cosby a check for half the gate after expences for the game played at Hancock. This was done because at the time, a future series of games between the two schools was uncertain. Do you think Cosby will be so gracious as to return the previous compensation? I hope so we need the M$NEY!!!!!!!
  2. Why is there only one game this year between Hancock and Cosby. Why is Cosby not comming to Hancock?
  3. Stokomo's view of the total picture is more in line with mine. Well said!
  4. A professional athlete can get a college degree while playing if he/she wants one bad enough. I know people that have worked 10 hrs. a day and done so! If you pass up big bucks then have a career ending injury, you have passed up more $ than the average college degree will earn you in the av. working career! Take the $ then get your degree.
  5. I respect your comments, However I feel being a former coach and working with youth for the past 23 years qualifies me to make this statement...... A coach that goes into the locker room or anywhere else for that matter and "uses language that would make a sailor blush", should expect no less from his players, parents and fans. I maintain at athletic contest this change in the immoral trend should begin with the coaches!!!!!
  6. Sorry ELA, but I smell a double standard here. I have been on both ends of this situation with players and coaches. If we as RESPONSIBLE coaches really want to develop morals, good character, and other aspects of integrity in our youth, it should begin with us. We must be GOOD examples if we really want these kids to develop these characteristics, regardless of how EFFECTIVE immoral coaching tactics might be!
  7. This was JV boys and varsity girls. Both Hancock teams won, although cedarview girls are not bad!
  8. ELA and Stokomo, Im not trying to turn the tables here, I agree with everything you said. However I want your honest opinion of how it should be handled if a coach screams at one of his players......in the presences of the entire team......at a game.......yea you guessed it......"you stink" he then repeated the kids name and said it again! Tell me who gets involved here? administrators? Parents? No one? Does the kid confront the coach or just accept that at least in his coaches eyes.... he is no good?......and not only that, but if he is going to play basketball at his school he must play for a coach with QUESTIONABLE morals? Tell me how should it be handled??? Signed: a former coach
  9. Eastnsp. sorry but you misunderstand. No fire or confusion here. I do not know a great deal about the talent in dist.1 so I honestly wanted to hear your opinion of how they compaired to the teams in dist.2, thats all!
  10. Eastnsportswriter, I noticed you said it would be an upset if Hancock or Powell valley beat Cloudland or Unaka this year. Are you sure? Tell us about the talent of the teams in dist.2
  11. Stokomo, I agree with everything you said. However I also believe the lack of morality is a vicious cycle. Coaches, players, referees, school officials as well as fans must display moral sportsmanship before, during and AFTER the contest. If this were to happen it would take a big chunk out of the cycle. You know what I mean, don't you? [Edited by swish1 on 1-16-03 8:27P]

Cosby has a good ball club. Should be a good game! Lets keep two very respectable teams, respectable ok? [Edited by swish1 on 1-14-03 2:28P]
  13. Other Buck quotes........"You couldn't shoot a dern BB gun". and......"You couldn't hit a bull in the butt with a two by four". "Quit watching the paint dry and PLAY". I rem these from a team camp at Carson Newman in 1981. Man....Im getting old!
  14. Gomab, a heads up on Aaron Seal of Hancock Co. Aaron is a true point guard. 5'11", strong, great speed and ball handling skills, sees the floor well, shoots well, great defender, good overall stats. Aaron is one of the best point guards in East Tn and is definetly a prospect!!! [Edited by swish1 on 1-5-03 10:44P]
  15. Stokomo, I have heard good comments about your values and work ethics as a coach and you are to be commended. However YOU are the one "missing the point" here. It is very obvious to me CHHS72 was insinuating the reason Hancock beat volunteer in basketball is because volunteer has football and Hancock does not. I admit there may be negatives especially if a football team goes deep in the playoffs. However I maintain the many benefits of participating in football can, and will, in many respects outweigh the negatives. Therefore I also maintain the reason Hancock has beaten Volunteer for several years has absolutely NOTHING to do with football. I suggest it has more to do with a commitment from players, coaches, parents and fans to Hancock's BASKETBALL program for several years. My comments about CHHS72 opinion of Hancock County was refering to HIS statement, and I quote: "Hancock County is not a good place". I simply said he was entitled to his opinion, although I strongly disagree. Please don't repremand me for that, OK?
  16. CCHS72, your opinion of Hancock County is just that....your opinion, and you are entitled to it. However your thoughts about playing football being a disadvantage in basketball are incorrect. On the contrary, football programs build strength, speed, agility and discipline. All of which are needed qualities for basketball. So the absence of football in Hancock could actually be a disadvantage in basketball, when playing schools that have football programs. I really can't explain Hancock's superiority over Volunteer in basketball for the past 5 years. Could it be ummmmmmmmm.......that Hancock has simply had a better BASKETBALL program?
  17. Hancock won by 1....did not play well. Will have to play much better if they beat former Hancock coach Terry Livesay and his East team. Game time is 6:30 today.
  18. gomab, your going to post your way right OUT of credibility!!!!!!!
  19. Hancock has not played East, they are in the same bracket with them in Tribune tourney. However they must beat cherokee in order to play East, if this happens the two teams will play 12/20 at 6:30.
  20. Did the ref intentionaly kick it or was it unavoidable? Its hard for me to believe a ref would OBVIOUSLY kick the ball so one team or the other could gain posession. It is obvious to everyone that all teams film their games! If it is clear on tape that this occured, you might want to hang on to it for future reference!!!
  21. Rutledge has a good team and may have been taken too lightly after the loss of last years seniors. What schools are looking at Singleton?
  22. All 5 OS defenders practically kept one foot in the paint. I would say, that suggest it just might be a zone!
  23. Hancock girls seem to have one of the better A teams in ET this year. Kim Seal is the younger sister of former Hancock standout Brad Seal {now at LMU} and is the lone senior on the team. Oliver Springs has a great AA team that could go deep in post season play, and if Hancock plays as well against their dist. and reg. competition as they did against OS, the boro is a posibility!!!
  24. Not meaning to change the subject. But why does Clinch play in the Watauga Valley conf. when they could cut their travel distance in half by playing in the Cumberland valley conf.?
