  1. It is tough to throw the football if none of the quarterbacks can pass it more than 20 yards accurately and the kids travel tuesday night and the first practice was wednesday. I'm sure everyone knows more football than the coaches involved--fans and bloggers always do--but three days isn't much time to learn a system.
  2. Well, didn't he win the State Championship? He must know something or does it only count if you win and you're from East Tennessee?
  3. The defense is fairly limited as well. You must play a 4-3 and cannot blitz or stunt--all base defense. You only have a week gentlemen, it is difficult to put in a very complex offense in really three days. Plus, some kids play at programs that where they just put the ball in the hands of the athletes.
  4. Is there anyone else on staff that would be at least a candidate? Are there any names out there yet--I know it is early--of who they might want or who might be interested?
  5. Who are the leading candidates to replace Coach Counce? Will anyone already on staff get serious consideration? It has to be consider one of the top jobs in West Tennessee or am I crazy? Maybe I should have asked if it is in fact true that Coach Counce is retiring. That is the rumor floating around right now.
  6. I heard a VERY, VERY successful college coach put it best at a coaching clinic. He said, "it ain't the X's and O's, it's the Jimmy's and Joe's." It really tells the story, you can be a knowledgeable, hard working, dedicated, organized, motivational coach and still not be successful. We have all seen it, there are coaches across the state that know what they are doing, put in the work and just can't find a win. Motivational speeches are great, until you get hit in the mouth then everything changes. Players make plays, I have never seen a coach make a block, miss a tackle, throw a pass or fumble the ball. As coaches, you can only put kids in a position to be successful, they have to do the rest.
  7. Interviews will conclude Monday, coach to be named by Wednesday!
  8. As far as the selection of players, there were several players that made the decision to NOT play and there were MANY, MANY more that were not nominated or their individual school was not a memeber of TACA. The selection team actually called several coaches ON THE DAY of team selection to ask if their kids wanted to play and some wanted to play basketball, some said their college choice didn't want them to play. One year there were about 20 players that made the decision to NOT play in the game.
  9. Just curious cam6, what is your background? Since you seem to see everyone play and know who has all the talent. You talk about half the teams on here like you know the coaches personally. How is it that you are such an expert on all the top programs and areas top talent?
  10. I never said anything about MUS and their quarterback. I said 5A football in the Memphis Area, meaning Region 7-5A and region 8-5A. Brunetti is a great player. I love that there is never any talent in Region 7-5A, funny that everyone else has all these talented kids, but not Region 7-5A. I'm sure there are a few coaches that might argue that, Millington has had a few in the NFL and Cordova has three in the NFL currently and the other schools have had several go to college and do well, so that Region is not some joke as you would like to think.
  11. Check out Ridgeways webpage and see Mr. Electric for yourself. You sound like real knowledgeable guy about who Cordova played in the 4th quarter--#65 soph, #62 Soph, #44 soph, #10 soph, #18 soph, #40 soph, #39 soph,#33 soph,#37 senior third stringer, #50 senior third string, #26 small person (midget-literally)senior. Since you were there, I guess you noticed that Cordova gave Bartlett the ball on the 32 and 35 yard lines and neither time did Bartlett score. Shaw NEVER played a single down in the third or fourth quarter--check the film yourself Einstein. Also, two different times Ridgeway had the ball inside the 15 yard lines and NEVER scored either, for the record.
  12. Cordova also has two defensive players that are having great seasons. LB K. Estes (5/11-215) 59 solos, 55 assists, 12 tackles for loss, 3 forced fumbles, 2 recovered fumbles and 2 pass break ups. He Power Cleans 285, Squats 525, and Bench Presses 315. DE/OLB Q. Clark (6/6-200) 48 solo tackles, 25 assists, 16 tackles for loss, 12 qb sacks, 20 qb hurries, 2 forced fumbles, 2 recovered fumbles, 4 blocked punts and 2 blocked fg/ext pt. Almost forgot, he also runs a 46.8 400 meters making him the 4th fastest in the nation (Nike Invitational this summer).
  13. K. Baker is the best quarterback in Region 7-5A without a doubt. He might be the best throwing quarterback in 5A Football in the Memphis Area. He can make all the throws, he has a cannon for an arm, great leadership qualities and he is a straight A student. R. Shaw is an outstanding back and he never just goes down when you get your hands on him. He Power Cleans 310, Squats 505 and Bench Presses 310. He ran a 4.52 at the Nike Combine in Houston and a 4.17 shuttle (the second fastest time there, behind teammate F. Cleaves-4.14) He must be doing something right 1012 yards on 149 carries and 12 touchdowns, plus 1 punt returned for 60 yards score against Ridgeway.
