  1. What goes around comes around and baseball has a funny way of teaching lessons to people who don't pull starters. Everyone should play hard the whole game. Obviously you don't bunt or something like that with a big lead and you should pull some starters to give them rest, get other kids some time on the field and protect your starters from injury in a game that may be getting sloppy.
  2. OK. Westview finally got bullpens. Great. They'll finish 2nd behind DC. Sorry Milan, shouldn't have been swept by the might juggernaut Chargers (the new found baseball power of 13-AA). In response to the guy asking about Dyersburg pitching . . . there is none. Trojans just flip it up there like slow pitch softball. The defense just plays REAL deep.
  3. The real issue is why is the coach with the big lead not getting subs some experience and why is he risking an injury in a runaway game. They often get sloppy and I've often seen a regular go down when left in a runaway game.
  4. Understand, I hate that DC has two very good freshman who are tough and will be tough. As for Westview, they need to do more than win 2 district games before I start thinking of the Chargers as a juggernaut in baseball. Their field doesn't even have bullpens.
  5. This is by no means a knock at Farragut because for all any of us know they may be the best team in the us. But seriously, national high school polls of any kind in any sport should be taken with a grain of salt. How can you legitimately compare teams from across this nation when the caliber of play from area to area varies so greatly. Also, there may be some podunk team in Nowhere that gets no national coverage that might be an absolute stunningly great team. You just don't KNOW. This is true tin football, basketball, baseball track or any other sport. I'm not a big fan of polls in general because they are so political (believe me I know I was on the inside of them for 20 years so I know), especially in high school. That's why you play the championships all the way to the state level. Until you play beyond that you can't really have a national No. 1. You could probably gather 50 truly impressive high school teams. Make for a great tourney, wouldn't it!!!!????
  6. A play that may be made using "ordinary effort" but is not made, is considered en error. That's the best answer for your sliding outfielder question since I didn't see it. In terms of the muffed bunt coverage (the umpire issue is really not germaine), the error should go the player who was to have covered the base if it is clear to the scorer who that player was. Other wise, the catcher threw to an uncovered base and gets the error. The scorer may, under the rules, attempt to find out who was responsible for the coverage at first and has up to 24 hours from the end of the game to change his/her call.
  7. Certainly the best freshman class in the district if not west tn.
  8. I think he's throwing a splitter. At least he did before he got to DC.
  9. A few years back Lexington had a pretty solid little travel team. Whatever happend to those kids? I would have thought Lexington HS would be in decent shape if they all went there. How is the kid the broken ankle?
  10. According to the Rules of Baseball (which have very little to do with HS baseball anymore) a pitcher who completes the game and throws "three effective innings" for the winning team is eligible for a save at the official scorers discretion. However, a save does not have to be awarded. In pro ball a starting pitcher must complete 5 innings in a shortened game. Not sure HS
  11. Are you sure? Doesn't look like a save situation unless Sanderlin "pitched three effective innings" and that means Anderson got the win without being the starter because he did not go the required 5 innings.
  12. Trey Tate at Gibson is REALLY strong. Not too sure what they got to go with him. The Wilson kid can pitch, I think.
  13. Point well made. Has DC don't much changing tempo this year? Saw a team change tempos vs. NS once and it SEEMED to throw them a little bit off their game.
  14. I've seen enough of Prather to issue the following advice: Do NOT judge his performance by how many points he puts in the box score. I don't think the kid cares about his total, which has impressed me. He seems to open up things for the guys around him sometimes and that's impressive for a high school kid to grasp that concept and embrace it.
  15. What are you talking about? My comments were not directed at any particular school or individual. It's as bad in other areas that have nothing to do with 13-AA. There is plenty of blame to go around. If you don't indulge yourself in these type practices, good for you. What does my reply have to do with posting rumors? Have you been sniffing tests just off the memeograph machine (kids today don't know what they are missing!!!)?
  16. If TSSAA goes to a 2 out of 3 format for title the entire post season would need to be revamped.
  17. Really did you import some players from the Dominican Republic? The talent sure didn't work its way up through your JV program.
  18. Well, you certainly are confident. I will mark it down. There are at least two other teams that could bust your bubble though . . . don't take 'em too lightly are you'll be crying into your purple towel.
  19. I'm a baseball guy first and foremost. But I'm staring at a reality I don't like . . . high school sports associations across the nation (not all but many) just don't care a lot about the sport I love.
  20. This a disgrace and it's not uncommon. The grease always rises to the top when the chili cools.
  21. What is the situation with your wide outs and backs? I saw some speed there last year in a preseason scrimmage. Is it back or replaced by similar/better talent?
  22. Two sports pay the bills: football and basketball. That's reality in high school and college.
  23. Here's a new slant: Coach Stowe: On the off chance you actually read this drivel, I am very sorry you father passed away. Mine did recently also. Welcome to Dyersburg. I hope you are made to feel welcome. I'm looking forward to see how your teams do. I hope you find all the support you need from players, parents, faculty, administration and the community. I hope you do well at DHS and stay a long and happy time. No, I don't have a son on the football team.
  24. Hey, playing someone out of state is always interesting. Drive through again. Two tire stores and a C-store now. . . . more houses.
  25. Back on track: To the poster who earlier talked about Milan being in the mix . . . yeah I would think so. I would NEVER count Milan out of anything and some of those BIG freshman were intriguing . . . especially during the district tourney last year. I'll have to say DC is the favorite because they've won district tournament title two straight years but I can see a couple teams taking aim from close range at them. Ought to be an interesting year.
