  1. I believe the Vikings see great opportunity to take down Science Hill and Dobyns-Bennett back to back and steal the Big 7 crown. Both opponents are missing key players due to injuries. Tennessee High is being labeled now as overrated because of loses to Elizabethton and South. They are still a very good team capable of putting up big numbers on any suspect pass defense. This should be a great game with lots of scoring. I'm revising to 42-28 Tn. High.
  2. Interesting commentary as usual Comp. 1) This team is very talented but continues to show a personality of poor discipline. They were penalized for over 100 yds. in the Cherokee game as you may recall. This trend will cripple them if it pops up against Betsy. 2) The bunch set was really effective when you had a big TE/WR who could block like a Ty or J.C. Garvin. I don't see anyone on this roster who can set an edge like that. Also Christian and Weiger are lethal as twin threats in the same backfield much as Curt/Bradley and Taylor were or St. Clair/Haden and Bobby Taylor were. Last years use of the bunch was a desperation change of pace IMO.
  3. Without McGue and with the Topper's current pass defense: Vikes 28 Toppers 14
  4. Does this mean Brentwood Academy would probably beat Crockett?
  5. What happened to all the Boone posters? Blazer1 seems to be the only one. FormerBlazer was a mainstay and Tosssweep was champion of smack. It is a sad state of affairs in the world today. My oh my how I miss the old days. Boone is 3-1. Are the Boonies predicting a football apocalypse for their program?
  6. Ha...funny you should mention. Ask Sullivan South how they felt after being left out and then shuttled 350 miles to Columbia for 1st round action. It was awful for both schools. Maybe TSSAA learned enough to get it right this time.
  7. I'm thinking these are normally released the Tuesday after week 5 which would be next week. Does anyone know? I did not see the info on their site.
  8. Hilarious. Thanks. To add a little depth to your story, did you know your beloved coach who is good friends with the Rebel coaches and highly respected as a former coach at South is affectionately known as "skunk" ? The skunk has been painted on the field at Death Valley behind the goalpost where the Blazers warmed up on more than one occasion . My understanding was the skunk was a playful jab, a welcome mat, and superstitious hex against the Blazers. Of course there will be no skunk on the field at Nathan Hale unless the real thing strolls in looking for some of that Booneshine. Regardless I expect the Blazers new scheme to stink it up. Rebels 40-0
  9. I found it, never mind. #84 TE/DE. Not sure he can catch McGue, but if he do, gonna be McGooey.
  10. I think JJ been giving our coaches too much of that Booneshine our last couple trips over there. I think it was all pre-game too.
  11. Does Derek Barnett play for BA? If so, how has he looked so far?
  12. If the carrot is in front of your nose, you'll run faster. If it's on the other side of the mountain, you'll never find it. For Crockett, those teams are in the Himalayans
  13. Good to hear from you Comp. Maybe the devil train will reappear the week of the Elizabethton game? Alas , I miss the days of Science Hill and Dobyns-Bennett scheduling even if we were coming up short. They were good measuring sticks. Maybe ole Batmast is converting me. Anyway looks like Sam has figured out Stacy's and Graham's formula for success. 68 points is nothing to sneeze at.
  14. East isn't going anywhere and Johnson Co. is 3A. 4A should include Fulton, Greeneville, South, Catholic, Elizabethton, Carter, Scott and hopefully an 8th team like Grainger or Claiborne so they don't drag another out of District 5. There are only 14 teams in 4A in districts 1-4 to draw from. If Betsy beats South they would be a top 4 seed as district champ and probably be a #3 or #4 depending on how they do against Tn. Hi and how Catholic does against Webb and Alcoa. I'd guess a #3 would put you against Carter in the 1st round and Greeneville in the 2nd. If a #4 seed you may play South 2 weeks in a row which I proposed last spring as a possibility when I saw the week #10 match up between the two.
  15. yep, these 4 win by a combined 209-7. Quad 1 is gonna be stuffed.
  16. Elizabethton over East: Blowout, EHS could realistically hang 70 on East. Thomas will go for over 250 with 4 TDs lol..maybe In the 1st quarter
  17. I believe Fulton, Greeneville, Elizabethton and Sullivan South will all be in the top 5 going into week 10. Quad 1 will be loaded.
  18. Sullivan North lost to Seymour in week 0. They are 1-1 and are a much weaker team than the ones they have fielded the last two years. I would guess they are over ranked.
  19. Well I think the whole premise of Paul Johnson's offense is power up the middle and really fast, good broken field runners at the QB and A/C RB positions. Malik and Devaun were penciled in there as Freshmen when the staff learned the new offense with them in mind for those positions. I suppose they could have stayed with it with similar personnel but I believe that was more a "let's see" plan than a concrete "this is our offense for the forseeable future" when the GT offense was installed. If Dunn and Blake are as fast as Malik and Devaun were and display similar elusiveness, then I think you have a very good argument.
  20. CGC gets it. He's giving the Tribe the best chance to win with the offense they're running. it puts the ball in Holt's and Casey's hands more often. It will evolve. I don't believe offense was the problem against E. Hamilton. Special teams and turnovers sure hurt though.
  21. Rebels will work on the passing game and try to spread the ball around more. This one could be like last year's Gate City game: 5 TD passes in 1st half and everyone plays. South is not likely to take any opponent for granted as they work out the kinks over the next 7 games on the way to the big match up with Betsy to end the regular season. I would expect the Rebels to be ranked in the top 5 of 4A when released this week.
  22. Hopefully that's just growing pains couch. I know i've heard several of my friends close to both programs say they were glad Coach Mays got the job. All said they felt he deserved it. I'd like to see him do well , even this year. After all it is still early and just a friendly reminder of a similar situation: I think the chance that went to Georgia once cost the Vikings a game against an anemic cross town rival by punting on 3rd down at the end of the game. Good luck the rest of the way. There is a lot of talent on that team and plenty of season left . A win over SH or D-B and this one would be forgotten I reckon.
  23. I agree on Crockett FB. The potential has always been there. They may win 5 or 6 this year and then look out. The musket bowl may actually be a rivalry one day.
  24. observations from the game: 1) The Vikings special teams have really fallen off. It's not fair to compare to Sigmon as he was an exceptional kicker, but the Vikings were pooch kicking every kick-off and missed / had blocked an XP. I can't recall in recent years South looking better than one of the city schools in the kicking game. 2) IMO the the worst call and possibly the game lost on the 4th and goal for the Vikings on the first series. Maybe the Tn. Hi coaches lost track of downs, as did the officials, but to repeat the well defended fade to Mitchell on the next play was a huge mistake. Mitchell used his big body to catch the slant with ease on the first play of the game, had run the fade unsuccessfully on 3rd. if they wanted to go back to him all they had to do was run the dig on 4th and Henley could have lobbed it to him for the TD. He ran it very successfully for a TD in the same situation against South last year. 3) I was really surprised Tn. Hi could not take advantage of the fact that South played most of the 2nd half without their starting RB and without either starting CB.
