The Admirals will be getting their AAU k-8 wrestling season under way starting this coming Tuesday (11/9/10). If you are looking for a club for your son to join, whether a beginner or seasoned athlete, we are open to all... We are entering our 3rd season as a club. In our 1st 2 seasons we have had some very good results (to name a few: including 473 wins, numerous Regional, State and National medalists, and I was blessed by being voted the East TN Coach of the Year). We will be holding practice Tuesday and Thursday evenings 545-745ish... For more information feel free to email us at: admirals_wrestling@yahoo.com On the mat, Martin Frye Coach of the Wrestling Admirals

this would be a GREAT camp, if it weren't so far away... any one know of any camps/clinics in the East TN area? I am so ready for wrestling season... Thanks, Coach Frye

I know it is early summer but I couldn't be more ready for wrestling season to get here. I am looking to see if anyone is doing anything in the area (Northeast, TN). I am considering opening up some "Summer OPEN Practices" to keep the kids fresh in the off season but again wanted to see if anyone else is doing/planning anything... thanks, Coach Frye

CONGRATS to the St. Mary's Admiral wrestling team. In just their 1st year as a club (mainly all newbies w/ only 4 experienced wrestlers) we took 13 kids to the East Regional in Pigeon Forge and low and behold all 13 qualified for state. There was some really good competition over all and I look forward to seeing the EAST region make a good showing at the state level. Good luck all and again, conratulations Admirals, you make your coach proud... Coach Frye

High Schoolers weigh in between 3:30-4:00 (along with middle schoolers) and they start wrestling at 5pm, hope this helps DON'T FORGET: ENTRY DEADLINE IS WED. MARCH 4TH

I sure am glad I read this... I had NO idea of this change, kind of like Coach Marshall, this is the first I have heard of it... one would think this would have been mentioned Saturday since we were ALL just at the district tourney at Central H.S. (where I attended all 3 coaches meetings and NEVER heard it once)... this is something that should be noted on the front page of the TNAAU webpage as an ***IMPORTNT UPTDATE FOR ALL EAST REGION COACHES***... I venture to say that I am not the only coach in northeast TN that did/does not know this...

1 work-around is to utilize the local AAU clubs (if any are near the kids)... for example, I coach a new AAU club and am not associated with any particular H.S. (we opperate out of a small private school that lends the use of their facility)... I have a couple H.S. kids that come and work out with us...

Best individuals of out DI and DII

understand, I am a D1 guy at heart, but I totally agree... or if you want to keep them divided- cool.. have a D1 champ and a D2 champ... THEN why not have an overall winner (D1 vs D2 at each weight class)??? I know TSSAA would probably never go for it, but wouldn't that make this guessing game so much easier? (Again, that is why TSSAA would not go for it, apparently easier is not better LOL) -
A few thoughts as the season comes to a close.

Yes Kole is as un-shy as they come... GREAT kid, and now a proven athlete (we all knew you had it in you Kole)... congrats to ALL the kids who stepped up and took home a small piece of history with them... as we "wrestlers" all know, once a wrestler always a wrestler (it just sticks with you more than any other sport)... good post Bayoubear GREAT SEASON!!! -
Winners attract winners... Congrats Kole and Bradley Coach Frye

ok, I think that I agree w/ most of these picks... looking at an intersting fact (now granted a few were blind) but when looking how each #1 seed faired in each weight class from both D1 and D2 (just looking to see did they make it to the finals) here is what I have... D1 had 9 #1 seeds make the finals (7 won) & D2 had 13 make the finals (11 won)... just some interesting data... here are my picks for what they are worth: 103 Mosely (D2) 112 Watson (D2) 119 Biddy (D1) 125 Doster (D2) or Hooker (D2) but I think Doster has the edge 130 Hood (D1) 135 Graham (D1) 140 Duncan (D2) 145 Bishop (D1) 152 Cash (D2) 160 Marchetti (D2) again another tough one vs Proctor (D1) but I go with Marchetti 171 Young (D1) 189 Croy (D1) 215 White (D1) TIE with Patton (D2) couldn't pick here, sorry for the indecisiveness 285 Carrethers (D2) -
Help needed for new youth program
admiralswrestling replied to admiralswrestling's topic in Wrestling Mat
now that HS state is over, anyone got any info on some mats... help needed badly in gaining mat space to keep program going... had one coach reply w/ a 20x30 mat but he is in Idaho (but shipping is a fortune, so that's a no go) thanks for all the help Coach Frye -
Good job Kole... and to all the region 1 medalists... couldn't be prouder... keep it up

thanks a ton, I am not complaining one bit and hope it was not perceived that way. I love the top 100 idea and know anything new has to be tweeked over the years to get it where you want it... I never said that there were tournaments we attended that were not included (other than maybe considering including beginner tournaments, this way the newbies in the sport have a chance to earn something and not feel completely left out when they hear the veterans talk about points)... EX: I have 15 kids on my new team, only 3 have ever wrestled so you can imagine we take a fair share of lumps... I think I (as do most other coaches) do a decent job keeping their heads up when they repeatedly lose and tell them it will come with time, practice and patience, but I have had many of them ask when will they have a chance to earn some points. I think including the beginners tourney will give them a chance to do just that and then they wont feel like they have nothing to show for their efforts at the end of the year, just a thought and I have expressed it to Mr. Lauderdale as well. I love wrestling, I can not seem to get enough (I wrestled, my son wrestles, I coach, heck I have to take sleeping pills the night before tournaments b/c if I don't I will not sleep), I LOVE WRESTLING... that being said, I really think TN is on the right track and working to make the sport bigger and better starting at the AAU level and I will personally do anything I can to help make this a reality for our area (I wish we had the facility, $ and mats to host a tourney or 2 and I would but we don't)... I would like to see East TN boom like the other areas in the state (and I know we have a ways to go to), I guess that is what I was really trying to get at...
-
I sat on hold for about 20 minutes, got fed up with holding and hung up... then sent to emails via their "contact us" link... gave my contact info and such... we'll see... I mean it was only $5 but more than that I missed the matches... can't get that back and that is the part that stinks (wanted to see 1 match in particular the D1 145# and never saw it)... simply put... FRUSTRATING
-
I just sent one too... took my money and still never saw a full match
-
BRAVO, well said... granted I coach a youth team and lmiit it to only boys but it has nothing to do w/ me not wanting girls to wrestle... I think this sport has GREAT values that "NEED" to be shared and instilled in today's youth (male or female)... the ONLY reasons I do not allow girls on my team is 1) liability & 2) I think girls should wrestle girls (not that some can't hold there own, heck I saw a girl from VA put a thumping on some boys in a tourney recently, but I just think b/c of all the positions, holds, etc that boys should wrestle boys and girls wrestle girls)...
