  1. Kinda had a feeling that Wartburg would win that one. First time in my life I've ever heard a Wartburg team cheered at Coalfield by Coalfield fans. Jordan was awesome tonight for the lady jackets and they punched their ticket to the regionals. I still think that Oakdale is the best team, but wouldn't want to be them resting with a game against the Lady Dogs on the horizon! Oneida won tonight also so the 4 4A teams in the regionals are Oakdale, Coalfield, Oneida, and Wartburg. Didn't most predictions have Wartburg as the odd team out? Quick question: Is the Oliver Springs dominance Dead in the District and Region? Girls out, Boys about to be. I doubt that will play well in the O.S. community
  2. I believe that it is good for our district to see many teams at their best. It is hard to argue that Oneida hasn't slipped since their glory days, but Jackson is doing an excellent job with their middle school. The problem up there is that she isn't going to be their coach in High School. I think that O.S., and Wartburg have both outdone Oneida over the past 4 years, which is a complete cycle of players. If Jackson was coaching at the HS level you would see them right there, but I don't think from my observation this season they know what they are doing at the HS level. Oneida should have won 20 games this year and at least tied for 1, but they were middle of the race in 4A, a 4A that has a down O.S. and Wartburg in it this year. We will see how things go for Oneida when O.S. and Wartburg get things going again in a year or so. Also, Oakdale will be very tough again next year so Oneida doesn't appear to be headed to dominance. This is the year for someone other than O.S. and Wart to be there since one will cancel the other out tuesday. I still hold them as two of the best programs in A, you have got to put Coalfield in there also. Oneida has much to prove, they haven't done very much in the past few years!
  3. I just don't think you can put teams like wartburg and oliver springs in a box like that. I've watched ball an awful lot and I've seen it time and time again. I read on another post that wartburg has graduated 15 players in the past 3 seasons, but still have been in the sub-state each of the past 3 seasons. Oliver springs has graduated at least 10 players over that time but still manage to win the district each year. I believe that this year 1,2,3,and possibly 4 are all a toss up. I look for wartburg and os to make it back to the region along with oakdale and coalfield. Coalfield lost a ton of great players OS lost some key parts Oneida and Oakdale return intact Wartburg lost several players but should be deeper than most.
  4. I suppose your right, but I know there are at least 5 teams in region 2 that are better than RBS. Coalfield, O.S., Wartburg, Tellico, North Greene, and probably Hampton. O.S. didnt make it to the substate this year because 2A is better than most think. Besides to compare the teams in 2A to those in 7A is not quite fair given the TSSAA doesn't allow recruiting in East Tn. Clarkrange and Jackson should be in D2 since they already have bigger recruiting budgets than Grace Christi an!
  5. More talent than anyone? What about the Kayla Christopher O.S. teams, or Tellico (who if they cant beat oakdale couldn't beat wartburg), or the Coalfield Teams the last 2 years! Best 5 Starters....I know that Coalfield this year and O.S. 2/3 years will take that as an opinion. Fact is Both schools have had better starting 5's than and other 4a team. Coalfield and O.S. have had more talent than anyone in 4 A over the past couple of years! Watching Wartburg girls I think that only 1 maybe 2 (Bunch and Fountain) of them could have started at Coalfield, or O.S. over the past 2 years. Who has wartburg had over the past 2 years that is a D-1 Talent (KC, AJ) answer nobody! Don't knock the other teams in this district pal. You want to talk talent k, but in my opinion Wartburg has been third best talent wise over the past two years.
  6. No O.S. Harriman etc are small school I'm 75% sure
  7. Dont think they lost any, I believe they return the entire team. But outlaw or Kaz would probably know better than me.
  8. What does Watertown have coming back next year? Can they win?
  9. Thinking about wartburg they have had about 14 different starters during this run so I'd probably feel like Wart could be back in the region.
  10. This was pretty much the order most people thought would happen this year. Out of that Wartburg went to sub-state from pre-season 5th place. Sounds like great coaching to me. Also, I heard that during the last 3 weeks Wartburg girl's had been having horrible practice attendance, capped off by one of the girls skipping the practice before the sub-state to go to a concert. Went to high school with JD at Coalfield and know the kind of man he is. I can say 100% that the reason for the new faces was due to the fact that the ones who practice are the ones that play. On to something else! Coalfield pounded Hines but people got on here and took back many of the wrong assumptions made prior to the season. We were flat out wrong about her and the girls good team and 2 time state tourney coach! Go Lady Jackets I think they can beat JC!
  11. And she made her Freebies Glad to see two Morgan Co. teams in the Championship Game and having a chance to get to the boro!
  12. Ok, going in to the season I would have told you a Wartburg / OS final was out of the question. Now, it is here. Some thoughts Coalfield did what Hines teams tend to do this time of year EMPLODE! As I've said tourney time exposes coaches for what they are and from what I saw Friday night the two best ones are in the Finals. I'm sorry Oakdale but you can't blow a 14 point lead in a game like that. Coach of the Year in the Dist. Christopher / Davis (Give it to both of them) Next, as a coalfiled fan and alum we should evaluate what we have got out of our "best team ever" 16-7 This year 0 Championship Opportunities 18-7 Last year 0 Championship Opportunities 18-11 the year before that 9-19 in this groups freshmen year thats 61 and 44 with the talent our kids have that is not a record that is acceptable. During that same time period in morgan county Wartburg 73-45 with much tournament success (2 20 win seasons) Oakdale 75-44 (2 20 win seasons) Sunbright not very good I just cant believe that our team is the third best in morgan county over the last 4 years. Too much talent for that to happen. Our program needs to pick it up and finish stronger than years past on monday and in the region.
  13. Enough with the lists. The reason Coalfield and Wartburg are 1-2 in the district hasn't got anything to do with luck. Coalfield has a ton of talent Jordan, Walls, Jones, Elsea, Hamby etc. and Wartburg has kids that have been in the sub state and regional finals 3 players as starters for the last two years. I doubt that it is all that shocking to see a team with their experience win close games or games that they may not necessarily have brought their A game. I think that these two teams will end up 1-2 at the end of the day and the tournament. Coalfield because of their talent and Wartburg because they seem to understand how to win and play in big games they arent the most talented but they may be the most pressure tested. I also stand somewhat corrected on Hines, she has handled this years team well considering all the preseason turmoil. Outlaw, Quick question. What would winning out do for oneida or any team for that matter. The regular season is not important in the slightest. Everyone makes the district tournament its what you do from there that matters. Jellico could win 5 games and if they are all in tournaments then they are in the substate just some thoughts
  14. bigshow, The point is if you have 2 coaches 1 is a good coach and the other is Extremely good. Both drill and work with their kids and the teams play 10 times even though one coach is clearly better than the other the winner of those games 9/10 times is the coach with more talent on the depth chart. District 4A has 3 really good coaches and 1 or 2 ok ones. One of the ok coaches can win the dist if they have superior talent. Coaching can handle many things but there is only so much that you can do to improve athleticism, height, etc. It's just like if you have two equal players one is 5'9 and the other is 6'9 9/10 times 6'9 is going to win out! It's just how sports works. Too much is made of coaching! I believe all our 4A coaches are good enough to win a tourney given the talent to do so.
  15. Freshkicks, the story I heard was that the Senior in question was asked to play JV. Wasn't she All Region the last 2 years. I'm sorry but you just don't do that, and to further complicate things it was because the other seniors voted to have her do so. That shows a major lack of leadership on the coach's part. I believe that this group of players from coalfield should've been in the position the wartburg or OS girls were in the last two years. If you remember we beat Wartburg with these girls when they were freshmen and OS as Soph and beat Wartburg 3 Times Last year, but somehow haven't been able to achieve their Tournament Time Success. Instead of Tourney success we've had total meltdowns time and time again. The only reason we are winning this year is because the top teams lost key players and we returned all of ours. Tournaments expose coaches for what they are. Steve Spurrier has won NC and SEC, Carmen has never won the state she isn't an elite coach! Most people don't question Spurriers coaching ability they just think he is a jerk....Only difference with Hines is that most people think she can't coach also.
  16. Kazam, I'm not a big fan of the coach. But even if I was I still think that if you give great talent to an ok coach then they will win. That is usually why a team falls on hard times, its due to their lack of talent. Take our Football Situation at CF if the Henry's had the players that Coach K has had in years past then they wouldn't be under fire. Talent wins at the A level you could put any coach in 4-A in charge of CRANGE and they would have won state last year....why? because they are better coaches than Lamar Rogers NO WAY, it would be because they had the best talent in the state and all are at least OK coaches. Now a coach does make a difference and can help a team win a few from time to time with less talent and score an upset, but in the end the best talent wins out 95% of the time.
  17. Superdave, I agree with most of what you've said. The points on Oliver Springs and Wartburg are true I. I will say this though I don't think any team wants to play them in a tournament given what each has done the last couple of years. Both have very good coaches and good players just not dominant ones ie Armes WB Christopher OS but I could see them upsetting some when Feb gets here. I think that it will take WB 2 years to rebuild after looking at their roster some good looking underclassmen. OS may be back in 1 definately in 2 we will see. Thats something we don't talk about as much on here but teams at the A level must go through this process unless you are Clarkrange or Jackson and you have the pipeline going lol! I'm really proud of the Lady Jackets they are playing well right now and look like they will roll to the regular season crown if they can stay healthy. It just goes to prove coaching is about 30% of it if you have better players then you will win sometimes in spite of your coach.
  18. Coalfield has all their team back. The coach has lost some respect around town due largely to statements being made that the team was better off without the players who left and that no player wouuld be allowed to play that skips summer. Well she let the player in question come back and has imo lost the respect of the rest of the team. May be nearing a time for a change in Coalfield! On talent alone I have them still in the #1 spot if these kids played for West, Christopher, or even Davis or Snow they would be a lock for the state tournament. I don't know much about the other schools but being from coalfield and now having one of our own at Wartburg i am hearing some very positive things from that direction. Sounds like I may move them up to a # 2 Spot with Oneida I don't think there is much difference between the teams. Call Wartburg 2a and Oneida 2b Oliver Springs but this is close they could be right there with Oneida and Wartburg So I'm going to call them #2c Oakdale is my next team I just don't think they will be able to deal with stout defense that 4a's best play when tournament time comes around. Loss of Pease on Earth will prove to be a problem in big time situations. Sunbright - I've heard they are going to take over the district from some of my sunbright friends. I doubt that. They will be competitive and may in the regular season sneak up on an O.S. or Wartburg but they won't make it at tourney time. Jellico - last!
  19. Ok I had some time to look up some things on here and found who's coming back this year. Coalfield returns everyone so I guess I will place a bet on their talent and pick them 1 Oneida according to CoachT rosters lost just about everyone Sunbright brings back everyone so they could be pretty good Oakdale lost pease and that will be a major blow. They truthfully will not have anyone that can replace her scoring. OS lost everyone but 2 so they have some work to do no matter what their tradition they will need to work very hard to get back to where they want to be Wartburg brings back 3 starters and two that I believe were all region last year. I also recognize a couple of soph. names on the roster and remember them being pretty good so I would think them to be ahead of Oakdale right now. I do not think that Oakdale will be in the top 2. Right now I would put Coalfield, OS, and Wartburg as the top three.
  20. I'm not being a typical fan just a realist! Coalfield isn't playing up to that programs standards and wartburg is playing above their heads right now. You have momentum from oakdale and a half from Harriman where harriman looked to be planning their weekend from the middle of the second on. You beat Oakdale, hardly a signature win. I guess it would be a signature win in Bulldog Country. Point is I don't think that the county is even close to good right now. Anyone that counters that opinion must be out of their mind!
  21. I think this will be the battle for Morgan County. No offense to Oakdale but Sunbright has me riled up. Without a doubt this is the 2 best football programs in the county. I know thats not saying a lot when comparing to Oakdale & Sunbright as the other 2 teams. Even when we were losing in 2a we would have still cleaned house with SB or OD so get over it little man & go pick on one more weakling this friday before you guys have to take your lumps. Punk I am starting to think that there isn't a good football program in the county. If Coalfield 1-4 and Wartburg 1-4 are our best we are in trouble. I said earlier that CF would trash WB now I feel like the contest will be awful to watch with two middle schoolish looking teams play. I will take Coalfield 2-WB 0 both teams stink!!
  22. Carmen is not going to let Scarbrough not play this year. The team cant win without her and Coach Hines knows it. I have heard that she has been pressuring her to play. Scarbrough will play because without her we are only about 3 in 4A
  23. Wartburg always wants to talk schedule but the fact is they haven't played anyone in the last 3 years. Being on the field with Alcoa is not the same as playing them. We played up and it will help when the year gets a little older.
