1AAA Championship Daniel Boone 2 Dobyns Bennett 1

Daniel Boone senior pitcher Cora Baker signed with Walters State yesterday. She started working on learning to pitch the summer after her freshman year and then her soph. year she was something like 13-17 with a 2.69 or so era with 180 some ks, junior year she was 19-4(or close, my memory is failing me) with a 1.64 era(or so) 203 ks and a couple of no hitters, and this year she's 21-2, 160 ks, has a save and 0.46 era and a perfect game. She's hitting .400 with 6 homers. She's worked her tail off and had the benefit of lessons from Coach Wes Holly and Tonya Jenkins and a very good catcher to work with in Megan Walker. And yes, she's my daughter and I'm proud of her accomplishments in just 3 years of work and no, I don't keep the book. She had a full ride offer from Union in Ky, a very good offer from Tusculum, and interest from several other good schools, but chose Walters State because she said she just felt at home there and she can get a very good start to her education and the coaches are top notch and alot like her hs coaches who are not only top notch coaches, but just good human beings. Coach Wagner(and staff) at Boone is a man of character and ethics, he expects discipline and hard work from his team. She's been blessed to have such good coaches in her hs career.

Congrats on your win! It's a shame that some smarty pants come on here and post snide remarks. Hope these young ladies have a great rest of the season.

Congrats, Mtown East on finishing so well at the Eastman Invitational. Boone had two tough games against two tough IMAC teams. It was great to talk to friends we've met and watch your teams play. In our 4 years of doing this we've met some great people from your conference. Friday night my daughter hurt her ankle during the Boone/Cherokee game and some of Cherokee's parents came over and asked about her. The girls came to her after the game to shake hands and showed real concern. The Mtown East/Boone game was a good one, too. Our daughter thinks alot of C Horner and enjoyed seeing her again. We think alot of you guys and your daughters, good luck to them and we hope to see you again some time. You guys are a quality bunch with quality young ladies.

Congratulations Unicoi County!! We got the opportunity to meet some of these young ladies when our daughter played fall ball in Johnson City with them a couple years ago and not only are they great ball players but they are quality young ladies. We celebrate with you, Lady Blue Devils!

Boone's soph. catcher Megan Walker deserves recognition, too. She is a 4.0 student with a work ethic that is unreal. She works all year anytime the pitcher wants to work. She's a super kid, too. Not mine either.

Where are the other big 9 people??

Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected.

Our girls are in Crossville right now wanting to play in that tournament. My daughter and husband are there and a tornado warning just lifted, games today all cancelled.

Congratulations Unicoi County! We watched the game after ours was over and it was awesome! Kara Woods and Whitney Gilbert are both amazing to watch. Both teams played with so much heart. I hope our girls someday are able to play at that level. My prayers for Kady Robinson, too. Hope to see hear that she is back in action soon. Also, I would like to congratulate our little team. Great job, Boone Lady Blazers!!! With 4 freshmen, a sophomore, and a junior in the infield and 2 more freshmen and our one senior in the outfield, they did amazingly well! We are so proud of you!!

I have a question about two types of pitching we saw in the summer in 16u travel ball. One pitcher was using a double windmill. She would release the ball after the second complete windmill. All the umps and the tournament director were watching her, but none would call it illegal. They all said they "though' it was illegal, but weren't 100% sure. Then we saw a pitcher from South Carolina who would do her back swing, come forward, release the ball at her hip, then do her windmill. The ump behind the plate called this pitch a ball everytime until the girls coach called time and talked to him. After that, the ump would call the pitch a strike if it was within the strike zone(it was mostly). Both pitches were very effective, especially the double windmill.

Great post, trublu. JV at our school is ignored, too. And our coaches know who they will be starting on varsity a year ahead also.
