  1. On a hunting trip or this is where I would be tonight! I share the same opinion as a few of the recent post. I think OZ is good enough, but I think Coalfield's experience pays off in the end, much like the regular season game. I do want to point out that I think it is really neat to see both of these programs ran by relatively young head coaches that played and now coach at their alma mater. This is one of the things that I love most about small school sports. OZ- 12 CF- 28 Good luck to both teams in this rivarly game late in the year. I'll be tuned in.
  2. CF wins this one much bigger than first matchup. RW is too inconsistent and the CF program is built on consistency.
  3. Whitwell doesn’t have the team speed Prep did. Gordonsville wins this one by 3 scores.
  4. I don’t get on here and post much anymore, but I still read a lot of these topics and wanted to clear one thing up for Greenback fans. Last game against OZ they didn’t go for it on 4th down from their own 10. They went for it on 4th and inches at their own 35 in the 3rd quarter. Ran QB sneak and got stuffed. Score was 21-14 OZ at that point and they had been running the ball well against them all night, so I actually supported the coaches decision. They later snapped it over the punters head from their own 10 and that resulted in a safety to make it 30-14. I have watched 5 GB games this year and they are by far the most improved team in region from start to finish. I actually think they’re a little better than OZ with them having a senior-laden skill group versus OZ who has mostly sophomores at the skill positions. OZ is well coached, but I think GB’s seniors are playing hungry with a new lease on life and everything being win or go home. This will be a fun game to watch. GB wins this one 22-14.
  5. I know this is mostly GB dominated forum but I have to say I was really impressed with OS last night. It was my first game watching them in person and I couldn’t say or hear better things about this new coach than what I saw and heard last night from their fans and parents. A physical football team with a game plan to win a Football game. Offensively they do not play the prettiest style, but they executed a plan all night. The way Coach Harper stayed with his game plan when things weren’t clicking was maybe most impressive to me. A young coach that don’t jump around trying new things is not something you don’t see. Those 2 freshman running backs (3 & 17) are going to be real players, especially #3. I’m going to also add that he stuck with a game plan after losing his best running back #25 after warm-ups is what one of the parents told me. The OS defense was special too. 5 Freshman and 5 more sophomores started on that unit and I thought they got after it all night. That DL unit is a group of men! The coaches have a fire on the sideline and I believe that translates onto the field with how the kids play for them. This is in no way a negative post towards GB but more a positive towards OS. I thought GB kids played really hard, but looked out manned and schemed at times last night. It was a really physical game both ways and for the most part, I thought both teams did a good job playing between the whistles. I know GB is a proud program with a great football tradition and I’m sure while they go through the hard side of the ebbs and flows of talent pools and/or coaching regimes like pretty much all 1A schools do, they will be back at some point in a big way.
  6. Coalfield by 20 Early season scoring madness has seemed to slow down for Oakdale the last 2 weeks as the competition has been better, and Coalfield is getting better each week so I see them winning this going away in the 2nd half. I’m just glad to see this one getting played after a few Covid years of Oakdale not being able to play.
  7. Great post and good insight. I will say the ending of the post was extremely true. I believe that was one of those years where that region was loaded. Take any of those teams and place them in this region today and they might mercy rule every team in it. I’m not trying to take away from any of these teams today, but there were a few years there were GB, CF, and OS were all contenders for a post season run. One of my favorite things about 1A football is seeing how the talent pools at each school has highs and lows. I’ve always told people that these are the coaches that truly have to have a love for the game, because they may have a really good team one year and the next season be a 1-9 or 2-8 season.
  8. I got curious after I replied to this yesterday, so I started checking and my source was indeed correct. He actually may have told me less than what should’ve even been said. 22 of the 33 listed players on the TSSAA roster is Freshman and Sophomores. On defense they did start 9 Freshman and Sophomores and 7 on Offense. Defense DL- 58 (So.) 71 (So.) 77 (So.) LB- 1 (So.) 15 (Fr.) 24 (Fr.) 25 (So.) DB- 2 (So.) 7 (Jr.) 10 (Fr.) 44 (Jr.) 4 (So.) replaced 44 (Jr.) later in the game. Freshman-3, Sophomores-6, Juniors-2, Seniors-0 Offense Only 2 of the 6 seniors they have on the roster played and those both started on OL, but the rest of those guys up front were sophomores. The TE they started was a Freshman. The whole skill group was Sophomores except for 7 and 23 which were both Jr.’s. Altogether I seen about 7 Freshman playing in the rotation and I was told one of the better one’s in that group (#3) wasn’t available Thursday night. I had overlooked this information in the early part of the season, but I must say that I am even more impressed with them than I was. For a young group, they really looked physical upfront at times on the broadcast. The new head coach may have something to build on as they continue to get better each week.
  9. One could say this spread was missed badly. Maybe the over/under on total points should’ve been 20.5 Watched this one on YouTube. Talked to a friend from OS on their way home last night and he informed me they started 9 Freshman and Sophomore on defense last night… if that’s true then they will be TOUGH in the future. He also said they had 3-4 starters out, so I am thinking they may be a little better than what I previously thought after seeing the first 3 weeks of scores. As for Oneida, I was not expecting that brand of football but they still found a way to buckle down inside the red zone and get stops. I don’t know much about who is out, but I can see them being fine in the long run with that passing attack. Gotta get better up front. Overall, I would call it a sloppy game both ways but I do feel like this may just be the case when these 2 get together. Last time I watched these 2 teams play was a 4 OT slobber knocker a few years ago. Last night wouldn’t qualify as that, but I did enjoy the old fashioned defensive dominated football. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.
  10. I had to check back on this thread this morning after I cleared something up earlier this week. First, I will say, kudos to OZ for winning a game that I clearly said that I didn’t think they could win. OZ has been a “good not great” 1A program for several years and I thought the wheels had fell off that program from what I have read throughout the year. A friend from oz texted me last night and said those kids played their tails off to win, so I gotta give credit where it’s due. Second, kudos to Oakdale. To go from shutting a program down to a 2 seed in this region with some serious 1A programs is something you absolutely do not see, especially not in East Tennessee. Congratulations to kids and staff. I would say Midway went home last night and was counting their blessings for that Oakdale win. I think only playing 2 teams above .500 all year really proved to save them in the end. Overall, what a wild and competitive year it has been in this region. Congratulations to all playoff teams and their fan bases. I wish them all good luck moving forward.
  11. Almost positive this is wrong. If both OZ and Greenback win, then OZ has beat both Midway and Oakdale head to head and they are in as the 3 Seed. Oakdale would then take 4th seed due to head to head win over Midway. Midway would miss the playoffs. Greenback would be the 2 seed as the only other region team with 4 wins. Now, I think it's a long shot this scenario comes into play cause I don't think OZ can beat Midway, but if they do and Greenback wins then this is how it plays out. According to the 2021-2022 TSSAA Football Regulations Book. III. REGION PLAY & TIE-BREAKERS A. All teams are required to play all other teams within their region. The teams with the best region records shall be declared the region winner, runner-up, third and fourth place and shall advance to the first round of the football play-off series. B. If at any point when the following tie-breaking procedures are applied, one team has beaten all the other teams that are tied for a play-off position, that team shall be rated above the others. C. In the event of a tie for the region winner, runner-up, third-place, or fourth-place team, if either team(s) has defeated the other(s) in regular-season play, the team(s) shall be rated above the other(s) in the standings. After the region winner has been determined, the tie-breaker procedure shall begin all over again starting at the top to work out the runner-up position. The procedure shall be repeated to determine the third- and fourth-place teams. D. The following tie-breaking procedures shall be applied and all regular-season games, both region and non-region, shall count (After each of the following steps have been applied, item C above shall be applied.): 1. The team with the greatest number of victories. 2. The team who plays the greatest number of teams who win 50 percent or more of their games. 3. The team who has the greatest number of victories over teams winning 50 percent or more of their games. 4. The team whose opponents have earned the most victories. 5. The team whose opponents have received fewer defeats. 6. Coin Flip
  12. IF this happens then OS/Midway/GB all finish in a 3 way tie. Midway will claim the #2 seed, OS the #3 seed, and GB will be the #4. They would have all beaten each other and finished 4-2 in conference. Midway would take it due to overall record, OS would then have #3 due to head to head win over GB. I personally don’t see Midway beating OS, but there’s the scenario if it does happen.
  13. Wrong, I see you forgot how the playoffs work since you’ve been used to being a 1 seed. (A good problem to have) If OS beats Midway and finishes #2 and y’all finish number #3 then you guys would see Coalfield in Round 2. OS would play the winner of Midway/Cloudland in Round 2.
  14. My pick at this point would have to be Hampton, very impressive team. Also like CSAS and Cloudland. I can see any of these teams taking home the gold ball. I do not know much about the other teams though.
  15. This year they was, last year reigon 2 took care of business. As for you to get on here and say stuff like that is just funny. you got on here and ran your big mouth last year up to the day of the sub state games but this day last year you was real quite because OS and Harriman did work on your reigon 1 teams. So please leave this board cause it has nothing to do with your team. Good luck to Hampton and Cloudland at state
  16. Well how come these injuries were never talked about till after the game? Before the game all that was talked about was how weak OS and Harriman reigon was, but both teams won fairly easily. I understand your a fan of Hampton and as a fan your always gonna believe that your team is gonna win every game. But to use the injuries is a little lackluster b/c at that time of year everyone is playing a little injured. Ya'll came out and got up 10-2, where was the injuries at then? from that point on OS out played,Out coached, and overall dominated the rest of the game. With that all being said this is about state predictions this year and I am a fan of OS and clearly we are not gonna make it this year lol.. but i do expect big things from Hampton at the State this year, if healthy. just hope ya'll do not see a grace team cause ya'll will probably lose close to them and find out a month after that they had ineligible players(OS knows a lot about this). Hope this does not happen though as i like to see a small town team with homegrown boys do well!
  17. And in no way am i taking away from Hampton, cause to me it sounds like their the cream of the crop this year. i just disagree with you saying they are better than that OS team which IMO was better at all 5 positions on the cort last year
  18. I think ya'll thought that last year too till OS came to town and busted those chops. i highly doubt they are better than that OS team, cause in fact OS had a TEAM. I did not know what ya'll returned this year but to say their better than that team is ludecris when from what i hear the same exact team returned that got dominated at home when it mattered!!!
  19. Ok, uknoit 2. Is what your saying is that this Hampton team has a ball club like Oliver Springs had last year? If so my money will be on to them to go to state!
  20. As a fan of Oliver Springs I will say that it is hard for me to say but I will be pulling for Coalfield on Friday Night. Their a very good team and hopefully they continue on with a win friday night. I like to see our district do well and I expect nothing but a great showing from Coalfield Friday Night. Coalfield-27 Copper Basin-13 Go Jackets!
  21. Sorry guys i had to miss the game and just got back in town. Family sickness so i had to tend to that. I got text last night giving me updates and stuff and when i got the call telling me of the incident I was devastated to hear what took place. To the wartburg fans, players and coaches I want to first say congratulations on the win and moving on. Now i will talk about the incident. Catback and scw86 stated it well. There has to be something that happens to this kid. I will in no way bash him cause after all he is a 17 or 18 yr old kid, and kids tend to lose their cool sometimes, and with it being his last football game he will ever play I can see how he lost it. But in NO WAY should that excuse him from school punishment. I expect the coaches, and staff administration at Oliver Springs High School to do a good job in determining what his punishment shall be. On top of this my first thought was will OS face probations or sanctions place upon by the TSSAA for an incident like this? I sure hope what few do will not affect others in the coming years. To the OS football team and coaches, the community including I are proud of what ya'll done this year and last. 2 straight winning seasons! Oh and to the underclassmen, bust it this off season to get bigger, faster, and stronger cause as said before WE WILL BE BACK and better next year and I sure am excited to watch the Purple and Gold make a deep run next year! Again congratulations to Wartburg and good luck next week! I think I shall be out there watching the Bullldogs vs Boyd
  22. This is a game im really looking forward to watching as well. I have always been a fan of OZ but I also like to see the bulldogs do well considering both teams used to be in a miserable district where they fought against each other to not finish last. Now we are in the 2nd round and about to watch a cat and dog fight to go on to the third round.(No pun intended ) I give kudoz to both coaches and programs who have rebuilt by playing a somewhat weaker schedule plus bein in a district more well put together for them and beating the teams they are supposed to beat. Im tired of the whole schedule talk from eveyone. I will be the first to admit OS schedule has been softer than usual for the last 2 years but in order to re-build you have to adjust the attitude of the whole program. Both programs have went from an "I hope we get 3 or 4 wins this year" to an "I think this may be the year we can make a deep run for the state championship" kind of program and it really shows when you watch these teams play. Plus good teams will meet in the playoffs and ask Rockwood fans if the OS regular season schedule really mattered any in that game. Now for the hidden point in the game, I want to make one point. Last year OZ came out to Wartburg with a matchup of whoever won that game would make playoffs. OS ended up blowing out Wartburg 42-14 that game. I think the Wartburg playersb will remember that game well and seek revenge for that game and week 9 loss also. Before I make any prediction I would like to see some Wartburg fans help me out and tell me how the health of the bulldogs is and after seeing responses I will make my prediction later on in the week. Either way I want to go ahead and say good luck to both teams Friday Night and hope to see the same sportsmanship that both teams showed in week 9 when the 2 teams met!
  23. Bigman and good ole Hankspill... Put that 26-14 score in you pipe and smoke it! Great job by the boys tonight.. Sure am proud of them P.S. Bigman, dont come a hopin on our train. We sure dont wont you
  24. Bobcats-42 Clay Co.-14 The Bobcats have got in rolling just at the right time. I sat in the stands last friday night and watched the bobcats offensive line push wartburg all over the field, almost reminded me of last years o-line. Miller and Romero seem to have it clicking right now running the ball, and Miller is also managing the game well and making great throws right now. I feel the momentum behind the purple & gold and i sure am hoping to see the momentum push a deep run in the playoffs!
