  1. Forrest can also brag of having one of its graduates become a Rhodes scholar. Not too many small public schools can say the same.
  2. How about the Rutherford County Schools? Students can go to any school in the county. No problem now, but if the Legend takes over at Eagleville, then there will be many transfers into that school I think. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  3. Don't be giving Forrest ideas:excl: They might go for it.
  4. I had to look up Forrest's schedule, but I believe that Nashville Christian is their h:Dmecoming game this year.
  5. Looking forward to seeing the new facility from the bleachers. How wonderful for Chapel Hill and the Rocket fans. You do things right! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />
  6. I'm sure of this one, but feel that Coach Parker will show class and "pull the big horses" early. Community will get there eventually. How many remember the days when Cascade was everyones homecoming game? /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  7. Looking at this without being involved, it looks as if he made his decision with all of the facts and now must live with it. I am not saying that I agree or disagree but that he had information before he chose to transfer.
  8. Must I say: Collinwood, Huntland, Moore Co., Mt. Pleasant, Wayne Co. (These are in alphabetical order before anyone starts yelling.) You have beat one team in the region and one team in its first year. Take them one game at a time please and don't look too far ahead.
  9. It's been Forrest at least fifty years, probably more.
  10. Some teams have "been there" before and some teams haven't. The behavior of the fans seems to reflect which is which. Most football fans recognize talent on the field, and find players, coaches, and fans that spend their time telling everyone how good they are, need to convince themselves. Respect is earned. That is true on and off the field. Just an observation.
  11. Coach Hill has not been with the Forrest baseball program since 1997 or 1998.
  12. Did they get beat by Cascade as well? Guess they need to stick to the double A schools. The single A schools seem to be getting to them.
  13. Let's hope that both are at the state tournaments. What are you suggesting? Even though there are thirty-five players for MC, is the talent level down? Just some observations: 1. Lewisburg and Chapel Hill have always been blessed with talent. 2. The eight tournament format makes is somewhat easier to get there. 3. Single A has more "hard working" teams from the private level.
  14. ForrestRocket, I don't know if you are a ninety year old teacher, but it is certain that you were part of Forrest when "class, pride, and tradition" were still being taught to athletes and fans. Thank you for your post that represents the Chapel Hill Community positively across the state. Often a school and Community are judged by the actions of a few.
  15. Then use some schools besides Maryville. Some rural schools could compete if they had the funds to transport students from one end of the county to the other. Give Unionville some of Cascade's athletes in basketball and they would compete with the privates. Give Cascade students that could afford to have transportation as freshmen to Cascade and they would field a more talented team. Let the two schools in Wayne County run buses from all reaches to the school of choice. Let Forrest get one or two more ability players from the south ends of the county. That might bring some relief to those that have been told that they just don't practice enough because of character flaws. You made the point about student ability. You are correct. Privates have access to more talent. Enough said.
  16. The point is that Maryville does not play in single A!! I'm so sick of the privates throwing in this red herring! If the privates were interested in the competition rather that the championships they would have chosen to play against higher competition and leave the small rural schools that have no opportunity to "open zone" because of population limits. Now, I want Richland to bring in all the athletes in Giles County to play football. Let GCHS have all the basketball players, etc. Then there might be some competition against the single A privates in urban areas. If you allowed all the student population in that county transportation to either school, there might be a chance to compete with schools from the metropolitan areas. Any system will have flaws. I guess that we have a choice. Favor the poor majority or the rich minority. Let's not use a school that plays in AAAA as an example of the problem. Show me where Collinwood has an advantage in population numbers. Show the advantage that S. Pitt has in population numbers. Show me the advantage that Moore County has in population numbers. No? You had rather use Maryville as an example. Am I wrong, did they play Hillsboro? Is Hillsboro in an area that has a total population less than 25.000 including the adults? If Maryville chose to play single A, then Cornersville and Chapel Hill might feel that there was an unfair advantage. The sad part of this whole debate is that if some privates had chosen to just be honest about the real reasons they chose to stay in single A, there might not be as much animosity in the rural community. We may be "hicks" but we aren't stupid. The real reason is that it is in easier (less competition) to win those championships. It would be just as easy for the small public to win a championship with one single class statewide as it is to win a championship under the present system. All the red herring in the world won't fool us on that issue.
  17. ...and I do believe that it was represented by Columbia Academy in the state tournament last year. Now, it may be true that Huntland is the only team in the district to reach the state. [Edited by timeout on 4-30-03 3:36P]
  18. Three single A schools in Wayne County. Just how many students are in Wayne County? Not nearly enough to complain about. IF (and I don't know) there is no zoning within the county, big deal. They don't cross county lines. I do know for a fact of two private schools that provided bus service across county lines at a distance of up to 40 miles to get students. I would hate to name the schools and will not name the children that rode these buses, so don't ask. Great strategy though. Some of us recognize it for what it is.
  19. Good idea. I'm glad that you have provided a solution. No more division and only ONE state champion.
  20. You mean like the tragic young man from BA?
  21. What region/division does Hume Fogg play? I haven't heard of any rural schools that they whipped up on lately except in the Scholastic Bowl. Stop trying to confuse the issue. Oakland and Riverdale have lots of students to choose from and I don't find them wanting to play in single A. And if you are from a small former military campus, don't tell me that those guys on the baseball team have attended since first grade. I don't buy it.
  22. Let's look at Region 6. It is made up of two district from other sports. Now say if the coaces in each district got together and said that say Cascade got to get all the better athletes entering high school from the entire district this year, Eagleville got therm the next year, Forrest the next, and so on, then and only then would there be a chance for those to schools to compete with the athletes from the ABC schools. With those quality athletes and role players, then they might compete with the ABC schools. If you combined Bedford, Moore, and Marshall counties, you wouldn't have the number of students to choose from as those in Nashville and its surrounding counties.
