  1. I'm not sure at this point that stats mean a whole lot, ie, the 506 yards that Hillsboro had against Rossview, (the weak sister in 6-4A even though they beat MJ). Mt. Juliet had 416 yards against Tullahoma, 327 on the ground. The Mt. Juliet defense has 16 interceptions on the year and a little bit unusual in high school football, the three linebackers lead the team in tackles with 70, 90 and 105 heading into last night, just like they're supposed to. It should be a great game and atmosphere with survive and advance the mantra for all of the teams still playing. Throw out the stats and get into a dog fight.
  2. This is like an East Tennessee Insiders post, or just call me stupid. Go ahead, it'll make you feel better, but who is Glory Johnson? I'll assume she's a good basketball player and from the previous posts, she's tall. That being said, is she a sophomore, does she play the post, etc.. I do have to say she has a very good name, kinda like Colt McCoy the quarterback for Texas.
  3. Bigchief: William Douglas at Hendersonville had the nickname "Chicken Man". Would have included both Eddie Preston and Ricky Gwin from Hillwood. Tony Glover from Antioch? was a heck of a player. Barry Munda from Madison ran like a blur. One of the best that never finished because of a blown knee and "old" surgery was Barry Duke from MBA. Two from Hendersonville stand out, Doug Holland and Jeff Lane. Glad you mentioned George Volkert from Litton. Got the pleasure of knowing him before he passed away when his wife worked for me. Was an All-American at Georgia Tech I do believe. George was the person who brought this thing called a "mall" to Nashville. I recall Bear Bryant going to a Hendersonville game to see a 6'4", 245 lb. linebacker, (in the '70's), who was a junior and gave up football in the middle of the year. Someone mentioned Terry Potter from Goodlettsville, long blonde hair and could fly. I thought Harry Majors played more than one year at Mt. Juliet but was talking to someone not too long ago who said he just played his senior season. He and Preston Brown would duel it out at the Optimist and Banner Relays in track. Good Post!
  4. We were biting our fingernails in Mt. Juliet tonight. Great job Yellow Jackets. The game was a lot closer than I thought it would be. Was it like our game with the sloppy field? Northwest threw 5 Ints and lost 3 of 7 fumbles.
  5. Golfendude talking smack on your 2nd post...I like it.
  6. Re-read what I wrote. Or better still, I will quote it: "..there is no way Clarksville hangs with Springfield.."
  7. Uh...no. Clarksville will lose unless the weather happens to cause unfortunate turnovers for Springfield. Springfield has two big time D-1 players and very good talent surrounding them. This from a Mt. Juliet fan, non-bias observer.
  8. Having seen both, there is no way Clarksville hangs with Springfield unless the weather, strong wind and some rain, leads to bad turnovers. Clarksville has the talent to go as far as they want.
  9. After the homecoming loss to Rossview, I don't think coach Perry will allow this team to overlook any team on any night.
  10. Regarding the original topic...It's over, let's play. Regarding the LaVergne statement...
  11. Again this week, Springfield by as much as they want.
  12. I have two: The first is not really a tired old line that folks use but it drives me nuts. When the fourth quarter starts and everybody holds up four fingers. It's old and worn out, heck, we did that in the '70's. So here's my advice, WE ALL KNOW IT"S THE FOURTH QUARTER...just play #@%$^&!!! The second is also not a tired line but has been overused ad-naseum. When a talk show host says. "Well as his teammate, he really threw him under the bus." Again, just over-used and it's time to throw that expression "under the bus". OOPS!
  13. In AAA this year it's Wilson Central and then everybody else. Anything less than a repeat will be shocking.
  14. Springfield by as much as they want.
  15. Would that be a snotknocker or a slobberknocker? What will it be...Wing T or I formation with two tights or both?
  16. Based on talent and having seen these two teams play this year, Springfield will win by as many as they want. Good luck to Portland, there will be some snotblocking hits going on.
  17. You've got to be kidding!! Al Gore and John Kerry!!
  18. Having met Mr. Corker and spent time with him while he was running for Governor in 1994, he seemed to come across as a guy who wanted to legitimize his standing. Having failed at that attempt, it really seems like now he wants to be part of the "club" that is the US Senate...rich white guys. Don't get me wrong, I like rich white guys because, well, let's just say I do. However, if you want to join a club for rich white guys, try Rotary. Ford seems sincere and seems to be heck-bent on being a moderate which most of us are. Time will tell if he's fooled me, a guy whose Presidential voting record is Reagan, Reagan, Bush, Bush, Dole, Bush and Bush. He may turn out to be the most liberal senator this state has ever seen, time will tell. My gut tells me that he will try and govern from the center if elected. Oh, by the way, this moderate republican will once again be voting Bredesen for governor, who is the "smartest guy in the room." It's too bad he doesn't have good hair and good looks, otherwise the dems would tab him as a presidential candidate in '08.
  19. It's also Kroger..not Kroger's. Couldn't help myself. :justwrestle:
  20. Sorry, yes I was at the EKU game and also last night at the Murray State win. It looks like the offense is starting to gel and the defense is overachieving and doing it well, with some young guys really stepping up. I still contend that Sweeney needs to be in the shotgun 70-80% of the time which will not hurt the running game whatsoever. Murray State came up with some big plays last night on defense or the game would not have been close. Hey, it's tough to win on the road and Tech pulled it out last night for a great win.
  21. Having seen the Jackets this year, they are (Mr. Obvious), very impressive. They have two legitimate D-1 prospects and a snarly defense. I look for them to win out and make some major noise in the 4-A playoffs.
  22. Any info on Rossview? I see that they are 2-3 thus far. Any idea how they will stack up against Mt. Juliet this Friday?
  23. Searching my brain, going back, thinking, yes! Last year 30-27.
