1. Last time these two teams met the outcome was a very close 1 point as time ticked away in the fourth quarter. Greeneville was coming off a loss to conference foe, Daniel Boone, and this would be Sullivan South's only blemish. This time, the game is for a chance to play in the state semi-finals and the venue has changed. What do you all think the keys to this game will be? And who do you think comes out on top? I hope we are in for another classic contest.
2. The last times Greeneville & Sullivan South got together was early in the season at Greeneville & it was a classic battle that came down to a late field goal. This was the only loss of the season for the Rebels and the Greene Devils have not lost since the previos week to Daniel Boone. This time the venue changes and the stakes are higher. The winner goes on to the state semi-finals and the other gets ready for basketball. What does everyone think the keys to this game will be and who do you think comes out on top? Both teams are quality football teams and both deserve to advance. Good luck to all and lets see another quality high school game.
3. Who did Elizabethton pick up when they "mysteriously" dropped Greeneville from their schedule on September 28th. This has been one of, if not the, longest continuous rivalry in the state of TN. Why would they do such a thing? More money? Someone easier? It has usually been homecoming games for both squads year in and year out.
4. Who do you think will be the next baseball coach at Elizabethton?
5. Just wanted to get your thoughts on who will be the next baseball coach at Morristown East. That place has seemed like a coaching carosel (spelled wrong, I know). Just toss out some names and lets see what happens.
6. So, now who does West throw against Cocke County on Monday??? I'll bet they don't go with Jefferson County's philosophy. I like Greeneville's chances against Cherokee on Monday and then wait and see for a chance at the Regionals on Tuesday.
7. In the first round, it's win or go home, therefore most coaches would think you must win this one first. Guess Coach Seals doesn't think so.
8. What do you mean letting West have 7 all conference members? I know that they had the best record, but that sure would make the other 2 starters feel real good. And what about East finishing 5th (prpbably with the second best talent level in the IMAC) and deserving 3? Let's get real.
9. What are the standings heading into the last two days of the regular season? I know that West is leading, but what about 2-6?
10. That is correct because the score was tied when the starter was replaced. He was not in the game when the go ahead run was scored.
11. If Cutlip does go to West, what are the chances that Bill Duncan leaves Greeneville & goes to Science Hill?
12. Look at my comments on the Greeneville vs DB Thread.
13. Thought that tonight's game was very interesting. Scince Hill played hard all night long, but I feel that their aggressiveness got the best of them late. Greeneville, on the other hand, looked very out of sync throughout the game, but made some timely baskets. None better than the last second shot by Collins to give them the 2-point victory. Best of wishes to both teams in the sectional games Saturday. The biggest question that I have is why does the runner-up place 4 members on the all-tournament team, while the champions only get 3? Oh yeah, I forgot we were playing in a Big 9 atmosphere.
14. Game #1 Greeneville will host Volunteer Game #2 Kingsport will host Morristown East Game #3 Cherokee will host Science Hill Game #4 TN High will host Morristown West Winners from Game #1 & #2 will meet in the semi-finals Winners from Game #3 & #4 will meet in the other semi-finals. The semi-finals & finals will be held at Sullivan South. Looks like it will be a dandy of a regional tournament.
15. This is correct. Saturday Match-ups: Greeneville hosts the Science Hill/Volunteer loser Cherokee hosts the Science Hill/Volunteer winner TN High/Kingsport winner hosts Morristown West TN High/Kingsport loser hosts Morristown East Shaping up to be a pretty good Regional Tournament.
16. How about that? Don't lose a game and slip from 1 to 3. Maybe more of the middle Tennessee reporters got their act together and cast their ballots this week. Looks like it is shaping up to be a great state tournament. How many of these "top 10" teams will not even make it to Murfreesboro?
17. Small observation for the Sun comments. The fact that there are definitely smaller sections for the girl's games is an obvious and there are very few coaching comments in there. Some reporters, no names mentioned have always tried to get coaches to say what they wanted them to say, hterefore the reporters could have written the article without speaking to them. That is not what reporting is about. Report the game and its facts and let the gossip and other things take place here and on other message boards. All teams deserve to have the best coverage and with 5 high schools within 1 county, it is very difficult to have every school covered on a even plane. How many high schools have the same reporter cover baseketball and football all year long. Most of the time it may be 1 paper, but different reporters. One side note: The girls game was played on a Friday night and the Sun has a deadline due to their Saturday paper running early in the morning. Without knowing too much about technology, the story has to be written at the office, which gave them little time to get it in. The boys game was played on a Saturday, and with no paper running on Sunday, that gave them all of the time in the world to get additional comments. Who knows, they might have even stayed in Newport the other night also. Good luck to Coach Crumley and all of the girls tonight. Bring home the District Championship and get to work on the Regionals.
18. I like Greeneville over West. Seems like Johnny & bunch can score against everyone else except Greeneville. In the consolation game, I'll take Cocke County in a close one against Jefferson. They will be playing more for the chance to stay out of Greeneville's bracket in the region. All Tournament: 1. Buda (Cocke County) 2. Lewis (Cocke County) 3. Depew (Cocke County) 4. Nelson (Jefferson) 5. Elliott (Jefferson) 6. ??? (West) 7. ??? (West) 8. Deans (Greeneville) 9. Dixon (Greeneville) 10. McIntyre (Greeneville) MVP Region Match-ups??? Whst does everyone else think? Greeneville hosts Sullivan South Mo. West hosts Daniel Boone Science Hill hosts Cocke County TN High hosts Jefferson County
19. Who would have beleived that at the beginning of the year Greeneville would run the table at 10-0 and all of the other teams would tie for 2nd with a 4-6 record. I don't envy the coaches breaking that tie for the tournament seedings. Would you truly like to be the team that comes out on top in the tie breaker and get the automatic bid to the regionals???
20. No matter who has what ideas, I don't think either of the coaches get the opportunity to put the ball in the basket. Great win Lady Devils and best of luck next week against the Hurricanes & Patriots.
21. Science Hill is a very tough place to play, especially if the officials let them play like district 1 officials usually do. It is hot, hostile, and any other adjective that you would like to add. I wish the Lady Devils the best of luck, and I personally think that they should prevail. By how many, depends on how well they shoot and if they stay out of foul trouble.
22. Even with both big guys in the game, Greeneville seemed to out hustle Bradley Central and get most every loose ball. I suppose the officials held Bradley back.
23. I am really tired of this bickering about the officials handing the game to Greeneville. Is it not the kids who have to ut the ball in the basket, even when they are put on the free-throw line? I have yet to see an official step to the charity stripe and shoot. Am I saying that the officials did a great job? No, but it was not as unfair as some are making it out to be. There were some questionable calls, both ways, some going Greeneville's way and some Bradley's. This was a great matchup between two really good teams. Oh, by the way. Here is the inofrmation that someone was asking for: Fouls Greeneville 5-8-13 Bradley 6-15-21 Notice that neither team made it to the bonus in the first half. I know that if someone were to look at the second half and finals, most would say that it was very lopsided, but let me remind you of something that someone else has already said within this post. Bradley started fouling late to control the clock and get the ball back. Congrats go out to Greeneville and Bradley Central for such a great tournament. They both represented the state of TN very well. As I overheard someone say, I hope to see these two meet up again, possibly in the state finals.
24. If Dale Burns still has a hand in the selection process, Greeneville unfortunately will not be back. He has a problem with the school after some things from several years ago. Too bad, because Greeneville definitely would bring the fan support, not to mention a pretty good team year in & year out.
25. I beg to differ with the comment about not having 5 players on their tteam from Greene County. Having looked at their varsity roster, I am pretty sure that 12 out of 14 players are from within Greene County, with most of them being from within the city limits. As far as Hal Henrad being built primarily for the high school, why is their such a conflict between the elementary principal, p.e. teacher, and the basketball coaches. It takes an act of congeress just to do anything in the gym. Oh, and I cannot forget the Jr. Womens Club, who holds a winter bazar there.
