beethoven replied to CoachT's topic in Politics, National Issues, & Controversy
I've figured it out! The P&N board is Coacht's experiment. we are the mice being modified. I was a moderator in the first years of the website....a long time ago on a server far far away. -
Retired General Barry McCaffrey speaks out
beethoven replied to ELA's topic in Politics, National Issues, & Controversy
WWI and WWII vets might be offended to here their honorable fight with evil compared to this fight in Iraq that we started. Also, on an earlier post, you suggested that all democrats wanted Saddam out in the 1990's. That isn't true. I've never wanted him removed for one reason. I've understood for a long time that Saddam was a nec. evil b/c his opposition to Iran and the Persians there would always be a great check on there aggresiveness and trohble they could cause in the region. -

House Panel Votes to call White House
beethoven replied to ELA's topic in Politics, National Issues, & Controversy
Bush has spent the last 6 years practicing the political strategy of pleasing the 51% that got him elected. Rovian Politics they call it on the talking head circuits. George Washington...non-partisan president...the only one. -
How to fire the US Attorneys

I heard last night on NPR that the Justice department has sent over a thousand plus pages of garbage, that most of the stuff had been blacked out and that lots of it was just minutes of ho hum meetings they do everyday...seems Gonzalas is working hard to keep the blanket on top of it...or is it President Rove? -
I started reading that article when my newsweek came in, but put it down in favor of an article in Discover magazine about Autism and some breakthroughs being made there. I've got a 19 month old that is opposed to me finishing an article.

How to fire the US Attorneys

Her words. She felt her firing was political and that the justice department, Bush, and the AG were lying when they said the firings were performance based. Her record (according to her, her opponents, and the justice department emails) was untouchable. -

No doubt, the side that makes them more money! Its the new American way, isn't it? Anything for money. I don't believe that people's opinion are affecting the day to day morale or performance of troops in the field. -

I agree with you completely, but the intitial critism came in an accusation that "liberals" and people "like ELA" are the reason that the military is like it is. The war is the church, you go to church with certain expectations, if those expectations aren't being met (like a dying church or a church leadership more interested in money that missionary), then you change the church or you go find another. The war isn't meeting the expectations of those 76% that initially supported it. Those 43% that have changed there mind are clamoring for something different, no matter what our President says, no matter what the individual soldier, democrat or republican says. -

Lets not confuse facts for opinions. All sides have opinions, and the only facts are being sifted through by congress and the press to piece together an opinion of what happened. -

When my wife and I married, the preacher counseled us to find a church to join that was doing God's work....Obviously there is some interpretation a person could apply, but I've visited church's that were old, tired congregations of people showing up so they could say they go to church. You've applied your interpretation to what you think my anology means. I believe you may also be implying that either myself or democrats or liberals or blue dogs are more interested in what they can get out of something, like oppossing the war. You are free to think whatever you want. -

If you join a church congregation what do you expect? If those expectations aren't being met, do you continue to show and tithe that church? Perception and reality. -

A segment on NPR this morning about this issue. The reporter..reported that some are now questioning whether or not the AG has been acting as the attorney general or a rubber stamp for Rove and Bush. The AG has to be above influence and party affiliation, granted he is appointed and normally approved by the Senate, but to serve in a justice role and make politically motivated decisions is not right. They quoted some emails from the fired Prosecutor from Michigan, she repeatedly asked them to give her an explanation or just admit that it was politically motivated. She became very insistent after the Justice department accused the fired of being incompetent...and they also read emails where justice heads talked about her great record and they were going to get trashed over the lie of why she was fired. I didn't anticipate Bush's presidency spriling out like it has. -

Thats not a fair thing to assume....and I do think all American's should care because we are talking about the ability of our intelligence services to effectively operate without political interference, but thats just my opinion.

I know Perry Swindle, the now former coach at Russellville, his leaving is a pretty good sign of the future talent level in Russellville. Perry is "the Rankin of Alabama" in the success that he's had at every stop. The Hoover guys have eclipsed him, but I guess its time for him to take another stab at being topdog at a different place.

From what I have learned, the gist of why this such a big deal to her and her fromer co-workers is the safety, security and confindetiality that being a covert operative...or even a CIA employee must entail. Political outing of a covert agent, without real consequence to the outer, opens the door to the white house or congress or anyone with a political motivation to influence the operations of the CIA or any covertly operating service/individual. Its more than fake stories of uranium cake, its the ability of our intelligence service to operate without bias...just the facts ma'am might be in danger of becoming: which facts do you want us to find to support your presumption. (which may be the case for the whole excuse of going to war with Iraq anyway.)

I actually think I know who Muffin is (not his/her name, but geographic location) and I promise you there is no way oldchsman and muffin would agree on anything...in fact if muffin is the person I'm thinking...I'm real surprised he/she would support Dem's b/c of the traditional vote of that area. -
Rather than approve or disapprove of an income tax or a payroll tax, I'd like to see out state legislature create a budget that is balanced and paying down any owed debts....then I'd really like the Fed gov. to do the same.

Scooter Libby is found guilty
beethoven replied to ELA's topic in Politics, National Issues, & Controversy
Libby appeals, friendly judge delays and strings it out. Bush pardons him and makes a pre-emptive pardon for Rove and Cheney as he leaves office...Americans get screwed out of the truth and millions of bucks. -

I applaud the President for his home...really. I can only hope to have the money to build a house that incorporates those great innovative and ecological concepts. Perhaps if there was some kind of government incentive to boost the production and sales of these technologies, the price would come down and could become very mainstream. The field of pipes in impractical in most suburban settings b/c of the lack land to do it.
