Actually, it's not too crazy. NAIA and NCAA Division III use the six-team brackets annually for both conference and regional tournaments. It works out okay. It's just not the customary four-team or eight-team double elimination bracket. Remember, 8-AAA use to have three first-round elimination games and only four teams made it to the double elimination format. So, this was a way to allow just about everyone to compete in a double elimination tourney. With this district being so competitive each year, I think it was a great idea to change the tourney format. It's fair for everyone. There is only one thing I don't like about it. If Shelbyville wins tonight, then the Columbia-Franklin County winner is automatically in the championship. Therefore, the Tullahoma/Coffee County winner is at a slight disadvantage since they would have that extra game which could eliminate them. However, for the most part, it works out fairly for everyone. Besides, the #1 or #2 seed in the tourney should be good enough to win two games today if they are worthy of making the region anyway.
