  1. yeah i forgot about that one. russell clement laying on his back with two defenders laying on him. but you know all the aspects of that game will do the guys good. they have faced adversity a little the past two weeks and passed the test. the coaches do an outstanding job at halftime. take away the turnovers and i think we scored every time we had the ball. we did not punt one time. merritt seems to be still hobbled a little bit. but jacob and tyler have been awesome. jacob is a lot stronger than he looks. he played well on both sides of the ball. andrew hodge and chris large both went out and did not return. i hope they are not hurt bad.
  2. One of the tv stations said it was 64 yards.
  3. I agree with you MaryvilleRebels and since we won by four touchdowns maybe we can complain about the refs and not be accused of being sore losers. Powell held on nearly every down and not one holding penalty was called. Several late hits were not called and the one that took the cake was in the third quarter when one of their O linemen tackled drew galyon and then we got called for pass interference. I mean I am not saying they were jaded toward Powell. Lets just say the refs had an off night. Thankfully Maryvilles off night only lasted for a half.
  4. maryville scored 42 unanswered points to beat powell 49-21. maryville turned the ball over three times in the first half. once at the ten yard line when they were getting ready to take a 14-0 lead and another time at their own twenty setting up powell's second td. they trailed 21-7 late in the first half and went about 65 yards in the final minute and a half to cut it to 21-14. the scored 21 third quarter points to take the lead. milligan had a good game and scored their third td on a long run. i think he is better than tudor was. he seems stronger at the line of scrimmage. it was similar to the william blount game last week powell came out and spread out their offense and the patrick kid did a good job of throwing the football. maryville adjusted at halftime and shut them down pretty good in the second half.

    4A East Numbers

Alcoa and Heritage are winning games? They are the constituents of a tough schedule? Well here you go again redbyrd seeing only "part"of what someone posted. He was pointing out that of the four teams in the east with the best records in 4A maryville's opponents have the best combined won/lost record at 11-15. Winning percentage wise on paper at this point their schedule would appear to be the toughest. of course you picked out the two weakest teams on the schedule to try and make a point. You left out Morristown West who was number two in the state when we played them at their place two weeks ago and beat them by six touchdowns.
  6. TO ALL OF YOU SHEEP: BLAH BLAH BLAH ! Who else EXCEPT anyone from Maryville cares? Yes, they are really good. Yes, they have a tough line. Yes, They are VERY well coached in all aspects of the game. And I am sure the kids are great kids to coach BUT Football is trendy, so to speak. IN OTHER WORDS, "what goes around, comes around" So, believe it or not, the "MIGHTY REBS" will not always be as "SUPERIOR" as they are now. STOP TOOTING YOUR HORNS, COME DOWN TO EARTH AND ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN. The original post asked for comments. So i commented. In case you haven't noticed pal some fans from the same school use this to share thoughts and ideas with each other. If i see a post i am not interested in i skip over it. You should try that too rather than resorting to obvious jealousy inspired "name calling". I am down to earth. Now do us all a favor and GROW UP!
  7. This is an outstanding group of linemen. Most of them saw regular playing time as sophomores and are the strength of this team. Chris Large is a junior. Bobby Browning i believe who is a sophomore was expected to replace Chris Gowan from last year's team but had some back problems in pre season and Chris has held on to the starting job. Large graded out about 95 in the Morristown West Game. Next year it will be Large, Browning, Rhett Brooks and probably Jimmy Wallace. Our lineman are a result of good coaching and hard work in the weight room. Brandon Waters, Issac Cline, Drew Eubanks, and John Raulston are the seniors this year and have set the standard for what it takes to be an outstanding lineman. Coach David Ellis does an outstanding job of developing these guys up front.
  8. I would like to see it. there would be no playoff ramifications. and like they say you are only as good as your competition. it would be a ways to travel but we played smyrna for a couple of years in the late 90's and it would not be much further than that.

    Alcoa @ OS

alcoa is vastly improving because they have played two winless teams.
  10. No disrespect or cockiness intended. but according to knoxpreps.com milligan has 118 carries on the season and the next highest number of carries is 25. and the qb is only throwing it around 5 or 6 times a game because he has only thrown 36 for the season. we have respect for powell. but the numbers don't lie.
  11. I agree lindsey is a specimen. but i dont know about best freshman basketball player in the state. he is finding out that he is not in middle school anymore where he was bigger than everyone and can have his way. don't get me wrong he is still outstanding. but as far as an overall athlete ronald osborne (another freshman at alcoa) might be the best one. he is also on the football and basketball team.
  12. I don't know when you were in high school but maryville has not played brentwood academy since the 1978 state championship game. they beat them that year 21-14 and also beat them for the state title in 1976. maryville is a lot bigger town than it use to be so i don't know that i would say the whole town shuts down. but there is a lot of support and the stadium faces the main street in downtown so anyone driving through sees the game going on.
  13. i agree that we will see a lot of milligan. we had a similar situation with andrew tudor last year. we were able to score early and shut him down and by the second half he was a non factor often lining up at wide receiver. i am not saying that means this year will be the same thing but if powell cannot effectively throw the football they could be in trouble. also lucas tipton told me this morning he expects to play friday.
  14. i heard he got suspended from school a couple of days for bringing a cell phone into class. yep it rung! i think he should be back friday. oh for the good ole days when it was CB radios and they stayed in your vehicle. LOL
  15. No, objectivity is a "learned" skill. Not going to the bathroom in your pants is an "acquired" skill. I think you better check your shorts. You know, if you were half as good as you think at picking winners based on your superior analytical skills you'd be living on the Ritz somewhere instead of boring us with your self absorbed football pap. [Edited by RedReb on 9-28-02 12:02A] yeah really 64tnchamp. why dont you cut the bs and just say i am a maryville basher and it is my goal to find as many obscure teams i can and say they can beat them? like i said in an earlier post this thread has been about an area team getting a tad of national recognition and you are beating it to death. it is one poll ok? we are only ranked 94th ok? get a life!!!!!!
  16. Daisy, Have YOU been THIS stupid for ALL the last 40yr? ok if maryville should not be in the top 100 then where should they be? 113?198? my point is these polls are not an exact science. and if maryville is unworthy are they the only ones? probably not. this thread has taken a tad of national recognition for an area school and had way too big a deal made out of it.
  17. I am sure one consideration is travel expense. this is high school after all. and another these teams are not playing for a BCS bowl. maryville does not even spend the night in murfreesboro when playing in the blue cross bowl. i am not saying they do not have the money it is just something they do not choose to do. also these national polls are shear speculation on the part of the people who submit them. if you get in the top ten of one of the national polls other than a little recognition what have you actually gained? all we have to be is the best team in 4A in the state of tennessee and that is plenty enough to keep us busy.

    RAIN,RAIN,RAIN

I could not agree more. There seems to be some myth that the dirtier your uniform is the tougher you are. Winning football is strength against strength and if it is size versus speed then a dry playing field is a level playing field. I was at neyland last saturday and i am still waiting for everything in my wallet to dry out.
  19. actually they only beat maryville in 1997. in 1996 they beat halls in the finals. i think they beat halls by five points. What do you classify as creaming someone????
  20. Geez how long are you mo west guys going to try to keep living off that regular season game last year???? we have spanked you twice in your own back yard since then. if you really think your team is that good you will quit living in the past.
  21. dis us all you want. just be glad AE does not have to play us.
  22. I have been a maryville fan for 35 years. the play was right in front of me and you are right it was not a cheap shot. carl had just jumped over a player and larue isom hit him in the lower legs. like i said carl was up in the air and if isom was going to hit him higher he would have had to jump 5 feet off the ground. good hit. thats football. Alcoa 0-4

Chill Deion Chill! This ain't middle school anymore. You thumped our middle school last year. this year you beat us 12-0 and quite honestly the middle school at maryville is not very well coached. there were alcoa fans leaving that game saying maryville should have won. last year yep your middle school terrorized everyone and ran the score up. lindsey and feigler both i know are suppose to be sophomores this year so last year in a grade on grade with their size they had quite an advantage. coaching for the maryville kids changes dramatically when they get to their freshman year. your freshman class is good no doubt. but i don't know if they will ever "thump" maryville like they did in middle school. maryville has always has a depth advantage and possibly at the moment coaching advantage. not saying they will never beat them though. by the way if our middle school had won this year would you have started referring to grasshopper or pee wee scores??LOL
  24. that may be a tad misleading. brad merritt and jacob holt are both starting wide receivers and former qbs. rouse was the starter but blew his acl in pre season. andrew clement is cade thompson's backup but has been hurt. kirk harris plays there also. thompson, holt, harris and clement have all taken snaps this season during games. and merritt has also taken some in practice.
