  1. It's English? Thank you for making that ID.
  2. The trouble with your "analogy" is that it wasn't. You were attempting to point out that a couple of foreign students are very good and can beat most of Tennessee's public and private (for that matter) tennis players this year. Dalton came to Chattanooga over the weekend and beat everyone but Knox Catholic. All but one of their players is Latino. Do you think we shouldn't let them play because all their players are imported. After all, introducing that level of competition might make us all feel bad about ourselves. Do you think the guys from Tullahoma felt worse getting beat 3-0 by Chattanooga Christian, a private school, or by Dalton 8-0. Of course CCS has no scholarship athletes but might recruit. On the the other hand, Dalton is public but almost the entire team is from south of the border and I don't mean the state line. Maybe we shouldn't let our public school students play soccer players from Latin America. After all, they grew up playing the game and that just wouldn't be fair. 3. Seemed obvious to me. The more you p o private school parents, the less support you have for the important job of public schools - education. I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling for public education driving all over the state trying to find games and matches because a bunch of small minded and petty school administrators think "little Johnny" didn't win his share of games because life ain't fair. 4. Public school administrators' desire to segregate themselves athletically will do wonders for broad support of public schools. I'm trying to figure out the upside of antaganizing a group of citizens who, in general, have dispropotionately more influence in their communities. I'm sure Bradley and Cleveland will improve their collective wrestling records but there is a social cost. [Edited by realsoccer on 4-12-03 12:47P]
  5. If you're looking for a scholarship - forget it! Compliments of Title 9, there are so few available, coaches have to slice and dice among a 19 player roster. Your better hope is to do well in school. Maybe a DIII coach can help you get into the school of your choice with some grant in aid financial help. If you're a DI prospect, play for a competitive ODP team and travel team, some one will contact you. Otherwise, plan on studying. [Edited by realsoccer on 4-12-03 11:17A]
  6. and the best is Tijauna North er i mean Dalton hands down. [Edited by realsoccer on 4-12-03 9:15A]
  7. countrypk. I think i'd give him a pass on wrestling but i bet you can take him in the mile. you'd have to make it cross country, the DOT gets mad when people leave foot prints in the pavement.
  8. I'm going to personally call in the fire marshall to the next McCallie/Baylor match. It's ridiculus. If you're going to charge admission, you have to be able to insure that spectators can spectate. Come on Jim - Buchheit and Morgan! It's a long trip from N'ville to look at the back of a bunch of heads. [Edited by realsoccer on 1-25-03 6:54P]
  9. Gee, and my private school (parochial) was the first in our community to desegregate. Just how difficult is it for you to use the words "ethic", "epic" and "ethnic" correctly. Please find your dictionary and spend 5 minutes with it. [Edited by realsoccer on 1-25-03 6:45P]
  10. What was the the score? Out of town when it was played and never saw paper.
  11. Pez has been moved to Vanderbilt for heart transplant.
  12. If I can get permission, how 'bout meeting me behind the Shoneys at 10:00 Monday. Best out of three. Loser buys winner's dessert. [Edited by realsoccer on 1-17-03 9:28P]
  13. I thought the ruling specifically denied BA's claim for legal fees.
  14. You're overlooking Houston, Germantown, Ridgeway, ECS to name a few. We'd love to schedule McCallie and Baylor home and home but the 10 hour commute is too much. With the complete DI/DII split might be only alternative one day. [Edited by realsoccer on 1-17-03 9:27P]
  15. No hate here, just Brotherly love. Just relaying what the ND folks say. We never get a chance to play either one of you because you never seem to get that far in the tournament. As far as the over/under, that's not hate just speculation on games with McCallie and Baylor. Come on over to Memphis and we'll show you how to play soccer.
  16. My guess is 8. That would be 2 in one game and 3 in the other two. From what I heard from a guy at Notre Dame, the better bet would be combined yellow cards by the Sheridan brothers. I hear they play like thugs to overcome lack of talent and speed. Just second hand info and it's from Notre Dame.
  17. First and only 4X champion who wrestled all comers, private and public. Knocks are was tournament wrestler and didn't wrestle in college. Question is Tennessee History not national. Knew when to turn it up a notch.
  18. KNOXVILLE WRESTLING = OXYMORON
  19. We want Maryville! We want Maryville! We want Maryville!

    Boyd vs CPA

I could have sworn the game has been played. I believe CPA won. It seems like Boyd played SP a long, long time ago and I think won that game. Give it a rest. The outcomes won't change. Collectively, you're living in the past.
  21. I appreciate your attempt to have someone on this board define what constitutes a "public school supporter". I just signed a slew of property tax checks, a substantial portion of which will go to support public education. I believe, even with the demonstrable lack of educational results, Tennessee public school deserve more of our resources. When my children attended public schools, my wife and I were PTA presidents. To infer that because one is against a complete public/private split means you don't support public schools is incorrect. However, the vote by the majority of TSSAA reps creates segregation within athletics, not in a racial sense but by class. The net effect of a complete public/private split is to allienate a portion of the state's population which has a disproportionate influence on funding public education. The children and grandchildren of state legislators and senators are disproportianately sent to private schools. Our elected officials regularly treat public education as the state's whipping boy. Further allienating an important constituency of public schools just to win several cheapened trophies seems pretty short sighted to me.
  22. A few years ago a pretty good football player from Atlanta wanted to go to McCallie because he would get one heck of a good education, go to school with friends and play football for a really good coach. A few years ago a pretty good basketball/football player wanted to go to Baylor because he was fairly intelligent, lived in a series of foster homes and was constantly offered drugs in the public school he was attending. Both stories had very happy endings. However, McCallie and Baylor were accused of nefarious intentions and banned to private school heck. Small trade off!
  23. We'll never know because Maryville will never play MBA, BA, McCallie, etc.
  24. I think your hearts in right place but, " Schools will be competeing with schools who have the same capabilities" is not achievable. If you think so, read the literally thousands of posts by public school posters accusing public schools of having the same advantages that some private schools have. It is beyond the capability of the TSSAA or its constituents to achieve the fairness that you think is achievable. After the Public/Private thread is rendered a mute issue because of the split, you'll have another board, Public Rural/Public Urban, or Large Public/Large Public Unified or (I'll bet on this one) Public Magnet/All the other Public Schools. There is no end to the claims of "Life aint fair". [Edited by realsoccer on 12-9-02 6:24P]
