  1. Noway--- most of the video links don't work but he sure is quoted in the paper alot. (for being an assistant coach) I am not saying it was his fault just saying the cloudiness of who is in charge, makes the situation much worse and hard for TSSAA to get straight answers. Here is a link to most of the articles about Temple--- http://www.tntempleacademy.com/site_flash/...diacoverage.htm
  2. game deserves its own thread. Would you have said that about the McCallie/Baylor game? This is a big game, probably second in attendance to Baylor/McCallie. (at least for those games that will be played at Finley) The band compitition at half-time will be as good as the game. (although sometimes the bands don't play this early) I hope they do. I believe #8 was Orlandis. He made two really good catches. He is very strong. May not be the fasted guy on the field but his size will make up for that.
  3. Kevin did interviews after the games. I was there. (that doesn't mean he was the head coach) Just telling what I actually OBSERVED. He also gave 90% of the post-game speeches after the games. (when the Temple faithful would gather on the field) Would the real coach stand up? Probably not because then someone would have to take responsibility. Unfortunately this has to go back to Dan Wadley who was the AD and to the principal at the time. (Hunt??) We know for sure they were in those positions. I agree... this is not the issue but is probably a symptom that helped put them in this situation.
  4. I got to see both teams this weekend. I thought both looked good. Should be a good game. Very impressed with Orlandis Jackson of Brainerd. IF their quarterback can get him the ball, he should put up some big numbers. Last year the game was played in the afternoon on Saturday and it was about 120 degrees.
  5. TFP= Times Free Press Chastain said on the radio that Larson did practice. I think that is an undisputed fact. If Skogen checked out that it was ok, this goes back to Wadley. (who by the way is one of my favorite coaches)
  6. There was no back up to the guy that was from Rhea Co. when he graduated. Skogens had a lot to lose if they didn't have a quarterback, then Larson showed up. I am not saying he was recruited.... his parents graduated from Temple so there is a logical connection. I said back then...(if I can find the post I will put it on)... I guarantee that Temple will have a quarterback after whats his name graduated.... and they did. I don't have a problem with Larson transferring... he had a much better chance to play and throw the ball a lot. The only thing that is illegal was that he practiced while still a student at SE. Don't know how the administration could have allowed this.
  7. Erik Larson practiced with Temple during the spring while he was a student at SE. This is another clear violation. This goes back to Skogen and Beard as the head coaches and Wadley as the AD. What were they thinking? I know what Wadley was thinking... I am out of here.
  8. is this the fasted growing thread ever?
  9. I would hope every school has a system of paying tuition. (due at the end of the month, every other month or whatever) If they don't some people would not keep up with their payments. If it is due Sept 1 and it is not paid by November 1, the student-athlete becomes ineligible. The business office is supposed to inform the AD that the student is not eligible to play until it is paid. I know for a fact that at least some private schools do this. (they all should because it is the rule) This is what should have happened. I truly believe that this is just a matter of communication in the Temple case. Regardless of what it is... it is a violation. Just like what happened to the USJ baseball team. Getting paid 10-15,000 for a varsity head basketball coach is a little much. (assuming that is in the range of what the Skogens would be paying for tuition) Thats why they have the rules so that they can keep schools from stretching beyond what is reasonable.
  10. I believe the handbook says that the tuition must be paid by the parents. The spirit of the rule is so that school A cannot hire a parttime coach to coach tiddly winks so that their stud football player can play at the school for free. It is a technical issue. As many people have said... there should have been a check cut for skogen and then he paid his tuition. It is not a big issue but it IS a violation. If a student is late more than 60 days on a bill, he is not eligible to play so yes, they due intrude on school policy. You have to know the rules. I am not an AD nor a coach and I don't know all the rules but if I was, I would make sure I knew them and followed them.
  11. a little off the original topic but Temple will host their first game on the same night that Central and Baylor play at Finley Stadium. Where will temple play their game or am I reading the schedules wrong?
  12. I don't think the situation at temple (if there is one) will have anything to do with the split. These situations have happened before and some have involved public schools.
  13. Sanchez went to Baylor? I assume she sits out this year? Can't argue with Baylor as number 1.
  14. Ridley also was a transfer and made a difference. With him, Joey and Josh, they had a great backfield. Three of the toughest runners I have seen. This will be another hurdle Temple will have to jump to have a successful program. (losing a coach) It's going to be an uphill battle. Someone said Kell was pivotal to the offensive play calling last year, or did a misread that? Seemed like Skogen was the only play caller but maybe I missed something.
  15. There was never a long-term committment to the program. This is not good for the school. Football WAS good for the school but could be it's ruin. Hard to find a coach at this point. (assuming this is true)
  16. I believe kids that are coming from a public school to a private school (or vice versa) can participate in summer workouts or team camps. I think the issue is coaches contacting the students. At least I know this is done in Chattanooga with football and basketball.
  17. 4. Q. Is it permissible for a coach to contact a student or his/her parents prior to his enrollment in the school? A. No, a coach may not contact a student or his/her parents prior to his enrollment in the school. This shall apply to all students whether or not they have an athletic record. This is what I am interested in..... (assuming you considor enrollement as three days into school) A DI school, who begins football, girls soccer, golf or whatever on July 29th cannot call a student or send him/her a letter saying we start practice on Monday unless they come from a feeder school? I guess in 99% of students who are going to play a fall sport, they will contact the school and find out when practice is.
  18. it has nothing to do with post-season. If his last day of compitition was May 5th 2006, he would then be eligible to play on May 6th 2007. He must sit out 365 days from the last time he played. If he got hurt on April 10th. He could play on April 11 the next year. Most kids do become eligbile during the post-season because that is when most schools' seasons end.
  19. if a player transfers school without a change of address (which I think has to be at least 20 miles or something like that) they have to sit out on full year starting with the last day they played. The player would then be eligible after 365 days so If he went to a school that participated in the state tournament last year, he would be eligible sometime during last week. That is probably what happened in this case.
  20. CSAS was "left out". They are as good as ND and CCS. Not saying they should be there.... just an example of someone that was left out. I think our present system is good although taking the top four teams in reg season district to the region would save a week of play. I like that idea.
  21. why would you want less games and less teams to go to the state tournament. Still dont think it is about the benjamins. I guess we just disagree.
  22. Why is the present system all about the $$? It seems to be the best system. At the moment 4 of the best teams, (CAK, Knox Catholic, CCS and Notre Dame) are in two districts. So what if they play each other several times. The system is set up for the best team to make it to the state finals. (with the exception of CSAS this year but there isn't much you can do about that). If only the region winner goes on... CAK is not there and Notre Dame is not there. Not a good state tournament if those two teams are not there.
  23. I like the system simply for the fact that the two best teams can make it to the state championship... barring any upsets. If you send one from each district or region, you dont have Knox Cath and CAK or CCS and Notre Dame and CSAS. When Grace was good, that made it even worse. This way one of the three does not go but the other two could make it to the state final even if they are in the same district. I want the state championship played on Saturday in Murfreesboro not this week at Knox Catholic. (or wherever)
  24. according to the chattanoogan.com brackets the loser goes to the bracket with CAK and Knox Catholic. (after sectionals) Winner has a cake walk to semis then would face either CAK or Knox Catholic.
  25. they were but they appealed that decision. They said it wasn't fair to punish the current players for something some jerk did last year. TSSAA agreed.
