ND had several players cramping at the end. I thought it was fairly hot out there {Coniglio happens to be an extremely conditioned athlete who can run all day in 80+ degree weather!}. A big cloud blocked the sun just before half and sat there for about 35 minutes. Otherwise, the heat could well have affected the outcome because KC looked like the better conditioned team.

Tarr report please. I got over there very late in the game {about the time CPA's free kick banged off the crossbar}and don't think I saw him.

ND weathered KC's attack for the last half of the first half and the first half of the second. ND's keeper was flawless and the backline repelled every dangerous penetration into their third. Just one mistake would have possibly been the difference. Chase almost knocked the frame over with a shot off the crossbar. Then, ND began marking him with Matthew ?,#12, and he was essentially nuetrallized. This kid ran from end to end all night and forced KC to deal with him. Has excellent foot skills and reads the field well. KC is, of course, solid throughout the lineup and they never stop pressuring the ball. On the otherhand, only a couple of ND players seemed to get unerved by it. ND's midfield never asserted themselves until the last 15 minutes of regulation and the extra time. Suddenly, KC was having to play flawless defense while ND had the most possession and scoring oppertunites. ND had a lot of confidence entering the PKs. Their sweeper,#3, was huge all night and it was only appropriate that he ended the game after the keep made his second save. Critisms? ND wastes too many possessions with the wide backs trying to send long balls to cutting attackers. KC could utilize their slashing forwards more yet seem to have a tendency to try to work it out through Chase a little too much {or maybe it was me who paid too much attention to him}. Congrats to the Chattanooga Irish--don't think about anyone but Hume. They have been to State more times than you this decade. KC should be proud of their season--only a couple of teams could make a semi-credible argument you were'nt the best team in the state this year.

The Patriots entered the game with the weight of worry that a loss ruins an undefeated season. They played very tight, but CCS took control; played with confidence; and refused to reduce their pressure. CSS grabbed a succesful season, and CSAS had already sealed a school-best record which may not be topped for a long time.

ND's alot more skilled overall. They will maintain possession and their tiny field will help limit CCS's scorers oppertunities to get good shots. 3-1, ND.

I have personally witnessed at least two occasions where the endlines were a little crooked resulting in the ball staying in play, passed out front, and a critical goal being scored. If I were coaching I would inspect the endlines before each away game. Also, there's nothing like looking down from the stands and seeing perfectly straight white lines against a uniformly green surface.

Off topic prediction: If Webb wins big over CSAS, Baylor will cancel its game with CSAS.

Has Webb added a game with CSAS on 4/21? If so, can anyone confirm the time?

CSAS has only 13 games sceduled. Coach is Ron Nance.

My prediction: a 1-1 tie.

These two teams probably have similar talent and depth. Using CoachT's handy dandy schedule analysis feature reveals a much more challenging schedule for the Chargers, however. In fact, the Patriots only play 13 games in the regular season. Come tournament time CCS will be a much more prepared team.

Did SD have a scrimmage with CSAS earlier this week?

Did Notre Dame get assessed some sanctions as a result of the behavior of a fan or two at last year's regional game at CSAS? I saw a parent's complaint to that effect in "letters to the editor" in the chattanooga newspaper.

What year is #4, the bearded wonder, on CAK's team? CSAS had no answer for him in the middle in the semi-finals. When he took the ball in middle he always made great decisions, sending the ball to the best spot to set up the attack. If necessary he could hold, move and dribble until passing options were available. He created problems defensively as well.

I knew Igor from his club days in Chattanooga. He learned English in an astonishingly short time and his teamates really took to him as he was so unpretentious and had a great sense of humor. His dad had an equally hard time learning english and I spent many a practice and game trying carry on any meaningful conversations with him. He was also very likable however. {On the otherhand, Dad could be a little irritable on the multiple occasions he had to drive from Ooltewah to practice after Igor had accidently locked his own keys in the car.} Thanks for the update. I'll pass it along to former mates Trevor and Allen. Allen plays at Emory&Henry.

After watching a confident, well-coached CAK handle a youthful, nervous CSAS squad and noting Catholic's win, a discussion ensued about W Knoxville soccer dominance. Of course the Diadora Impact factor was mentioned. All of which leads to this question for Hoya: Whatever happened to Igor? Can't believe I won't be able to watch all three final games in the stadium. I expect it to be rocking this Saturday. BTW, check the schedule these teams had this year. Obviously, tough schedules make for tougher teams. I'm hoping CSAS's coach is on the phone next week begging G for an oppertunity to come and play next year. We lose only two seniors off the back, but need to figure out early who's going to step up and lead next year. {Good grief, I'm already posting about next year.}
