  1. To Marion County fans, just wondering whatever happened to a guy named Brian Janaway? I played with him at Tennessee Tech for a season and haven't heard anything about him since.
  2. Gibbs played in the Little T Bowl in Lenoir City in 1984 (lost to Happy Valley, 13-6) and in the Highlander Braggin' Bowl at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School in 1985 (Beat Chuckey-Doak, 10-0) and 1986 (Beat Johnson County, 13-12)
  3. I saw LA play AE Friday night and I was very inpressed with LA's running game. Their qb Cates is a very good qb that has a great handle on their option/wishbone package. He puts a lot of pressure on the ends and corners because he is just as good as having another running back. In additional both fullbacks are strong fast kids that add a hidden benefit. Plus the LA backs keep a great pitch relationship down the field. Their defense was a bit soft in areas but made plays when they needed to. I can't wait to see this game. I see the keys to this game as being LA's chance to control the clock and keep Catholic's potent offense off the field. In addition they must keep the game close because their passing game, while as no fault of the qb, seems to be rather weak (alot of dropped balls against AE). I think it will be a great game provided they don't get behind to far and have to dig themselves out of a hole. Catholic on the other hand has the luxury of playing a team that is somewhat 1 dimensional although it was a good 1 dimension. But it is tough to beat the same team twice in one season as both teams know from beating their last playoff opponent whom they both lost to during their respective seasons. Just an observation, I don't have a clue who will win.
  4. This is how the NCAA records tackles according to the Stats manual. SOLO TACKLE: If a ball carrier is stopped solely or primarily because of the efforts of one defensive player, that player should be credited with a solo or unassisted tackle. No more than one solo tackle can be credited on any one play. Tackles for losses and pass sacks should result in a player getting credit for that action and a solo tackle. ASSISTED TACKLE: If two defensive players contribute equally to the stopping of a ball carrier, credit both players with an assisted tackle, but give neither a solo tackle. NOTE: In a situation where there is not a solo tackle, there should not be more than two assists credited except in rare instances. In other words, on any given play one of the following may be credited: (1) one solo tackle, or (2) two assisted tackles. Only in the rarest of cases would more than two assisted tackles be credited. Great topic and disscussion.
  5. CoachT Do you know who is organizing the game, if so, could you let me know, I'd like to contact them, because I'm interested in picking their brain about organizing a bowl game. Thanks.
  6. According to the TSSAA Handbook "Football Bowl Games Section 10. A school must participate in the TSSAA region football play-off series and win at least five games in order to be eligible to participate in a football bowl game. No member school may participate in a football bowl game if the opponent represents an out-of-state school. Any football game scheduled after the first Friday in September — if it is sponsored by a non-school organization — or any football game scheduled at any time — if the participating teams are not named at the time the game is scheduled — will be considered as a bowl game. Sponsors of football bowl games shall obtain written approval from the Executive Director of TSSAA before scheduling such contests. No member school shall agree to play in a bowl game without first ascertaining that the proposed game has been approved by TSSAA."
  7. Just wondering if anyone knows of any bowl games scheduled. If so, when and where. Thanks
  8. Carter apparently has the horses this year and although I hope my Eagles can put together a good game and upset the Hornets, if we don't play any better than we have the last couple of weeks it may get ugly. We have to have better offensive line play, tackle better and come ready to play cause I know Carter will.
  9. I was wondering how long it would take for you to start spouting off again. Same old junk that you spew every season. Blah, Blah, Blah. It must be nice to have all the answers. Maybe everything isn't the way you would like it to be, but to continue to harp on it like you do isn't helping anything. But why should I even be surprised, in anything that I have done there always seems to be that person that is only happy when things are bad and they have something to complain about. Get over it, if you hate the Gibbs program so bad, go be a fan of someone else! GO EAGLES!!!!
  10. I know someone has some niformation out there, help please!!
  11. I'm looking for region standings from the last 10-15yrs since TSSAA went to 5 classes. I need any regions but especially region 1 and 2 in AAA. Any help would be appreciated. Also any all region/all-district/all-city/all-county/all-state team lists from the same period. Thanks You can email me at jjwsiv@yahoo.com or post here.
  12. Sullivan North has opted for 4A football according to the TSSAA website and that would leave 5 teams in Region 1. According to my sources, Gibbs and Carter are the wildcard teams for placement. Both could be palced in Region 1. But with the TSSAA, anything could happen.
  13. Can anyone get this guy a ride!!!!!! I'm going to see my Eagles against Loudon tonight.
  14. Let me explain myself. Livingston would have to play several of their region games in the Knoxville area which means at least 3-4 games each season traveling that far whereas. For example, if there were in Region 2 this year, they would have to make the trip to at least AE, Gibbs, Kingston and Anderson Co. depending on scheduling. I don't think that would be a very good idea. Their closest away game would be Scott and that would be every other year. Traveling that distance to any of the perspective region 1 or 2 teams would not be good for their program.
  15. TheAnswer9, Why would Livingston want to come East? I mean if you look at the cost of having to play at least 5 away games at the distance that would be required wouldn't make much sense for them. I still believe that if we went back to 4 classes at most then you wouldn't have schools in same situation as Livingston where they are the only school in their class in that area. Plus you could create four classes in all sports and keep/build rivalries unlike it is now where you play different schools in football and everything else. I hope that regions with 7 or 8 teams are created to keep the playoff system fair, if not then I would hope that larger regions get more playoff spots. But that is another subject.
  16. My 2 Cents Region 1 Pigeon Forge, Rutledge, Claiborne, Union Co, Seymour Region 2 Kingston, Scott, Austin-East, Catholic, Fulton, Anderson Co The wildcard teams are Gibbs and Carter,, and I believe that Gibbs will be placed in region 1 and Carter in region 2, or both in region 1. I don't see Scott or Anderson Co moving, Meigs Co or Livingston Academy in either region 1 or 2 would be crazy. Now the only other alternative is to break the region up based on geography in a north/south division with the following based on the TSSAA mapping system: Region 1 Scott, Union, Claiborne, Rutledge, Anderson Co, Gibbs, and Carter Region 2 AE, Fulton, Catholic, Seymour, Pigeon Forge, and Kingston
  17. We've got Loudon before Fulton, and we've got to take care of that one before we even start thinking about Fulton.
  18. If anyone moves to Region 1, it would be Gibbs or Carter or both. I don't think Scott is going to be moved, but you never know with the TSSAA. Sullivan North will most likely move up to keep travel down and to maintain rivalries. I just hope that the regions have even number of teams as much as possible. I think that the way the regions are now, to take 4 playoff teams from region 1 and 3 when each has 6 and 5 teams, respectively, when region 2 has 8 teams just isn't quite fair. But i'm very interested to see what happens.
  19. If we could stop shooting ourselves in the foot like we did against Scott, Gibbs could be a contender for a playoff spot. I'm anxious for the rest of the season. We've got AE this weekend and I'm ready to visit Dusty Lennon Stadium and fight AE in a good game. I know the Roadrunners will be ready, but if we can keep our mistakes to a minimum and control the ball, I believe that we will put ourselves in position to win. Good luck to both teams. Once again, Region 2-AAA has lived up to the hype. This is one of the top 2 or 3 regions in the state.
  20. What would be outstanding is to see an all day football event with some of the top teams in the state playing each other. They do it in Georgia and several other states as sort of a kickoff to the season. Start games at noon and play 3 or 4 games in one day at a neutral site. I'd love to see that. The game I'd like to see is Dobyns-Bennett vs Riverdale. Tought I was going to see it last year in the playoffs, but Oak Ridge came back and beat the Indians.
  21. Rotating the chamionship sites is a great ideal. I'd love to see the games in the East Tennessee area sometime. I think that by having the games in one area leads to lack of interest by those citizens in that area. They kind of take it for granted like the Tenn/KY All-Star game. People in Knoxville hardly acknowledge the game anymore. Rotate it so that other sections of the state can have the opportunity to experience the game. I'd be pumped if the games were played in Knoxville, Chattanooga, or Tri-Cities. As for the travel excuse, if my team or child was playing for the state championship, I'd drive, fly, catch a train, bus, horse, or mule to get to the game no matter where it was. By rotating the game I think that the travel factor would even out over time. I just don't think that it is fair that east and west teams and fans have to travel each year. Allow each site that bids for the championship games a 3 year contract, then rotate the game to the next site. From an event management standpoint, the fact of knowing that you only have a limited chance to host the games would create an event that could rival any state championship weekend anywhere. The local planning committees would have to create a great event in order to be awarded a 3 year hosting contract. I think that you would see better attendence, a boost to local economies, and a better experience for the teams and players. Hosting the event at MTSU is taking the easy way out. No competition means no reason to do better or offer an alternative.
  22. Wow, going out on a limb with that Gibbs/AC score. I'd love to see that. I haven't seen AC this year but if Gibbs plays a mistake free game we may have a chance. But i'm sure Coach Kerr will have the Mavericks ready for a big game. Fulton 27 Lenoir City 10 Gibbs 24 Anderson Co. 21 (upset) Austin East 28 Loudon 7 Kingston 14 Scott 7 I'll go with your upset special!!

    2-3a

Just my 2 cents worth, I think that Gibbs and Carter will both be in Region 1. I don't believe that the TSSAA will be that blind and create a five team region. But you never know.

    Region 2-3A

It's going to be interesting to see how the regions shake out because Elizabethton and Greeneville has been playing up a class and I bet Unicoi will also to offset travel expenses. But you also have Sullivan North in 3A in NorthEast Tennessee. This is what I would like to see happen: Region 1-AAA Pigeon Forge, Johnson Co, Elizabethton, Rutledge, Unicoi Co, Sullivan North, Claiborne, Greeneville, Union Co Region 2-AAA Kingston, Scott, Austin-East, Gibbs, Carter, Seymour, Fulton, Anderson Co I think the regions would be like this if Elizabethton, Greneville, Unicoi, Sullivan North and Greeneville stay in 3A. If not then I for see the following: Region 1-AAA Pigeon Forge, Rutledge, Claiborne, Union Co, Seymour Region 2-AAA Kingston, Scott, Austin-East, Gibbs, Carter, Fulton, Anderson Co I may not be right, and I hope that there wouldn't be a 5 team region, but you never know with the TSSAA. I'd love to have Gibbs in Region 1 and escape the death march that is AE, Fulton, and Anderson Co. It would also return us to historical rivals that we played for 25 years before the change in classification a decade ago. But I don't think that will happen. Anyway, just my 2 cents
  25. What happened?? Tusculm is a quality program with great facilities and great coaching staff. You just don't leave because you don't like it. Something had to happen.
