  1. I intended to let this go, but just had to respond. A high school kid taken in the later rounds will not be put in A ball to start his professional career. Would not happen. If he chooses to to sign, he will begin in short season rookie ball. Nothing wrong with that. The organization wants the young man to learn how to be a professional ball player, and this is the way they do it. Don't take my word for it. Check Baseball America or any other source you choose, none of the high school picks in the 1st round for 2004 or 2005 that signed the summer they were drafted skipped short season ball! One or two may have made it to an A club by the end of the summer, but they didn't start there. And there are many position players in the minors who were pitchers in high school, and lots of them threw in the 90's. You may be confusing extended spring training for rookie ball. It isn't the same. Short season starts June 21st and will run through August. Extended spring is for those players not placed on full season clubs coming out of the spring. They work out and play from April until short season starts, then they are placed on a rookie team or higher. So in that sense, extended spring will end soon, June 20th. Best of luck to Drew, in whatever he decides to do. I hear he is an outstanding player.
  2. Soup, That's funny about the text messaging. I was doing the same thing with mine. The last couple of nights he was texting me asking for updates on their games. I had to send one at the end of each inning last night during the championship! As he said at the end, "that's awesome!" As you said, once an Admiral...

    Farragut Game

Another oldtimer, like Soup, I want to congratulate the Admirals! Unbelievable!! This team has improved more over the last month than any I have ever seen. Without a doubt Tommy's best coaching job! If there was any doubt as to the best coach in the state, there shouldn't be any more. Congratulations Admirals!!
  4. Junior Lawson Cheek pitched for Farragut. Congratulations, Lawson! A complete game, 4 hitter in the state championships. A great time for a great game! thumb Here's hoping the Admirals can pull two out tomorrow. It's going to be tough against a really good Houston team. Good luck!
  5. Who all on Farragut this fall has seemed to step up to the challenge of replacing the seniors on last years team? I wasn't able to get over for many fall games and was wondering who looked deserving for a spot from the people who saw some games.
  6. Tampa, Could you give any specifics on our Farragut boys? Would really like to know how they are doing. Good luck for the remainder of the tourney!
  7. The Tennessee boys winning in Oklahoma seems to be becoming a regular occurrence! Congratulations to these young men and best of luck to the Junior Team in the coming week!
  8. I would be biased in my pick, so I won't give one. I bet Coach Corbin would be pleased that so many folks think that either David or Kyle is the best athlete on the baseball field. Look at the Commodores this year, they have several all around athletes. Maybe Kyle and David can play some one on one at Memorial next year!
  9. I will second all the opinions before me. When we (Farragut) were at Murfreesboro earlier this year, David was a very gracious host. Our fans really enjoyed the entertainment he provided during the game! Way to go, David! You are a credit to high school baseball in Tennessee, not just Murfreesboro.
  10. I will "ditto" Soup's comments. Great experience, great exposure. It was the beginning point for my son's increased exposure to several different college coaches and led to some great options. If you have the chance, don't pass it up-GO! It was also a way for the boys to get a taste of what minor league ball must be like for an extended time. Absolutely one of the best events my son ever attended!
  11. I don't have pretty brackets to post, but I can confirm that etcoach's initial post is correct. Coach Pharr told me last night that the tournament is a true 8 team double elimination format and Heritage gets the #5 seed due to having a better record against the higher seeded teams than West. Farragut hosts their half of the bracket and So. Doyle their half the first 2 days, then all go to the highest remaining seed's field to finish it out. Hope this helps.
  12. Red, Not sure how you got that from the Sentinel. Waldrop did not start the game, he came in in the 4th, game tied, runner on 2nd with no outs. He threw 2 innings. The paper is very clear on the battery for Farragut. Don't take anything away from Maryville. They did what was needed to get the win. They have always played the Admirals tough. I would expect them to do the same when/if Farragut faces them again. I think the most interesting item is that in both of Farragut's losses, both by 1 run, the last out has come with a runner thrown out at home! Good luck to the Admirals today against a tough South Doyle team.
  13. Remember that not all the KIL teams report their stats until the season is completed. The leaders in all catagories just may change when that happens.
  14. It's Waldrop. And that's what is great about this Farragut team. Plenty of weapons 1-9. No one player has to carry this team, when one or two don't get the hits, two or three others do. How about that third strike call in the first inning?
  15. Farragut 8- Science Hill 2. Rob Catapano gets the win going 6 and a third. Drew Reagan comes in and gets the final 2 outs. Harrison Eldridge has a homerun and Kyle Waldrop has a 3 rbi double to give Farragut a 5-2 lead.
