    7pm

ALL playoff games (Except the Clinic Bowl and Bluecross Bowl championship games) start at 7pm local time at the home team's stadium. Enjoy the game!!!
  3. This is an annual matchup between many of Tennessee's just-graduated seniors against those from the Bluegrass State. It's always played in June and typically played at a major division one stadium (Neyland in Knoxville and Commonwealth in Lexington are the two primary sites, but it has also been played in Nashville and Memphis). Over the years Tennessee has won most of the meetings.
  4. All playoff games (except for Clinic Bowl and Bluecross Bowl) will start at 7 PM Local time.
  5. In Kentucky they use an incredible concept. Each of the four classes has either 53 or 54 teams... which are divided into 8 districts with 6 or 7 teams in almost every district. This means some rural schools are forced to travel 3 hours each way each year for a district game... but that's just the way it is. The top four go to the playoffs with the same number of weeks as in Tennessee. In the case of my alma mater, a couple of years ago the enrollment was up just enough to force it from 1-A to 2-A. Instead of playing district games against teams located 15, 45, and 60 minutes away the closest regional game is now a 90 minute bus ride away... and most are even farther. Is that good for fans? No. But it's the way KHSAA keeps the regions even. I don't like the uneven regions... but that could all change next month, you NEVER know... 32-team playoff brackets are nice and neat. It's the same reason the brackets we fill out each march (for recreational purposes only, of course) for NCAA basketball are 64 teams (OK there's that play-in game now but that doesn't count).
  6. FlipN, It definitely sounds like you have a VERY solid plan in place. Having and sticking to that plan will GREATLY increase your chance at success. I have been fortunate enough to take something I love to do and turn it into a career. I started working for a small radio station when I was 16... dreaming of covering major league sports and getting paid for it. I'm now 30... and getting paid to cover the Titans and Predators as well as high school and college sports for the Tennessee Radio Network. I hope your passion for cheerleading turns into a success for you just as my love for broadcasting has turned into a great career for me!
  7. Before returning to radio I worked at a TV station that was a step down on the food chain from WBBJ. We did a similar show called Press Box on Friday nights from Late August through mid-March. Our show was at its best when the humor was sprinkled in amongst the information, scores and highlights. I have long believed that on-air sports humor is like salt and pepper. A little bit can add flavor... but too much kills the taste... a formula I still use on my friday night radio show. I can't see the show in question but understand the trials of working small-town TV AND I also know what it's like to listen/watch hosts who are so busy trying to be entertainers they forget why they're on the air in the first place.
  8. I was still working in TV when Coach Arrington launched the Kenwood program... When I interviewed him for the first time they were practicing on a tiny piece of grass no more than 40 yards long and about half the width of a real field. He was always easy to work with and he did wonders with building the program from nothing into a contender in short order. I sincerely hope he'll find another job somewhere else. For those who may not know Kenwood's in the Fort Campbell area of Clarksville... and about 3 miles away from Northwest high school. The population there has a significant turnover because of military movements... and I'm sure they're even more greatly affected by the deployment to Iraq. Good luck coach Arrington!!!
  9. Polls are great!!! They give sports people like me something to fill time with on really slow sports days, and they provide another point of comparison between top teams. That said, are polls always correct? Of course not, unless your team's ranked ahead of your rivals, in which case they're suddenly the greatest thing going!
  10. Flipin4OHS-- Another option not mentioned here is to become a cheerleading sponsor at a middle/high school. My sister started cheering when she was 7 and cheered all the way through college. After she graduated she took a teaching job and was immediately given the job of cheerleader sponsor. Her girls go to a place in Owensboro, Kentucky called Cheer Zone. It is there they practice their stunts, etc, which makes them better school cheerleaders as well as protecting the school and her from liability issues involved with high-impact tumbling routines. In addition to make 200-thousand dollars a year would take more than you may realize. My wife runs her own business and half of what she grosses goes immediately to income and self-employment taxes... so to clear 200K you'd have to make 400 thousand or so. Ultimately if owning your own cheer gym is your dream... then by all means prepare yourself as much as possible in high school and college by taking many business classes... and GO FOR IT! Find a job working in a similar facility. Learn what you like and dislike about it. Decide if, for example, you really want to get up at 4:30 in the morning to open the doors for a 6 A-M workout with a bunch of sleepy-eyed 7th graders. It never hurts to chase a dream as long as you're willing to accept there's a chance of failure. Good luck!!!
  11. If you haven't read Bryan Mullen's article from the Tennesseean by this title posted on the front page of this website... you need to take time out of your day. It's an excellent look at a program most of us never think twice about, Taft Youth Center.

    Region 6-4A

The TSSAA Apparently reconvened this morning and came up with the answer. If Northwest wins and Pearl-Cohn wins, Stratford is first, Pearl-Cohn is second, Northwest is third, and White House is fourth. If Northwest loses and Pearl Cohn wins, Stratford is first, Pearl-Cohn is second, White House is third, and Northwest is fourth. If Northeast, White House, and Rossview win, White House is first, Stratford is second, Northwest is third, and Northeast is fourth. If Stratford, White House, and Mt. Juliet win, and either Northwest or Whites Creek win, then Stratford is first, White House is second, Northwest is third, and Pearl-Cohn is fourth. If Rossview, White House, and Mt. Juliet win, White House is first, Stratford is second, Northwest is third, and Rossview is fourth. If Stratford, White House, Northeast, and Whites Creek win, Stratford id first, White House is second, Northwest is third, and Whites Creek is fourth. If Stratford, White House, Northeast, and Maplewood win, Stratford is first, White House is second, Northwest is third, and Northeast is fourth. If Stratford, White House, Mt. Juliet, Maplewood and Springfield win, Stratford is first, White House is second, Pearl-Cohn is third, and Northwest is fourth. Difficult... but not impossible... Nice job TSSAA. (am I allowed to say that on this board?)

    Region 6-4A

How could somebody need to LOSE to make the playoffs???
  14. As long as it's Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight" and not "You'll be in my Heart" it's OK! I can't believe nobody's mentioned Alan Parsons Project "Sirius", the instrumental prelude to "Eye in the Sky", used first by the Chicago Bulls then copied by thousands... And hey... a rousing rendition of the school fight song is always appropriate. At my alma mater (University of Indianapolis, an NCAA Division II school) there's a musical chimes tower... and every day at noon it plays the school fight song. I was only going to lunch.. but it motivated me to walk faster to beat the upperclassmen to the cafeteria

    Region 6-4A

40 Division I regions. Hundreds of playoff potentials. A LONG day by the TSSAA braintrust to decypher the web of records. Is region 6- 4A such a mess that even the TSSAA can't figure it out??? Is it because of the "North" and "south" divisions... or is it because there's such parity that there are dozens or hundreds of possibilities that can't be figured out 'til the games are played Thursday/Friday? I'm not criticizing the TSSAA at all... I'm just curious what kind of mess this is that's so bad they didn't post anything.
  16. I don't care if they're as some others say taking a nap or not... I'm glad they're doing the work so that come Thursday/Friday those of us in the media won't have to!
  17. I'm really disappointed in the immense amount of common sense logic being used on this topic. This is a danger to this entire area if not all internet bulletin boards across the world. We simply can't allow logical thinking on the public-private debate board

    Ryan Headrick

Aunt Sherry, Just want to add my thanks for the regular updates. My prayers to him and all of your extended family as well.
  19. So I'm not spending an extra hour tonight waiting for scores from saturday games I don't know about... Are there any other Saturday games other than Father Ryan/CBHS and Baylor/McCallie? P.S. It's post number 100 for my ever-growing Coach T addiction. That Plus Membership is money well-spent
  20. My wife is a very proud graduate of G-P-S, the "sister school" affiliated closely with McCallie. Over the years she has brought me up to speed on the importance and intensity of the rivalry... and I have seen firsthand the evidence of the "Spirit statements" made the weekend of the game (nothing permanent... just stuff done in good fun). Again I have to be neutral but I know which win would make for a happier rest of the day in my home
  21. On the Monday or Tuesday of Week 10 tssaa will post the playoff possibilities. In some regions it'll be fairly straightforward... while in others there will literally be more than a page of possibilities. It is easy to follow though... just cross off the scenarios that don't work as you get the scores on Friday night.

    CPA'S Slip-up

In my job I truly can't root for any team to win over another... But I'll make an exception in this case. I do hope that CPA does make it to the playoffs. For a coach to step up and give up three easily won games because of mishandled paperwork shows a level of integrity that, if it existed in every single program across the state, would vastly reduce the number of posts that show up on this board every week. Nobody would feel compelled to accuse a school of cheating because there would be no wrongdoing. Those who fling accusations on a regular basis would be either silenced or forced to talk about the actual on-field play. Congrats Coach Pack on taking the road of honesty. It will be rewarded at some point down the road, if not on the field then off.
  23. Thanks! I know last year they played the II-AAA game on Friday night... and I had to miss it because of hosting our last scoreboard show of the season. To keep this post on topic... Blue Cross sent to us media types the reporter's notebooks with all the times for the Blue Cross Bowl games in the PUBLIC sector... But there were no such notebooks for the PRIVATE Clinic Bowl games.
  24. I put this on this board JUST to be safe. When are the Division II Championship Games? I know they're the weekend before Thanksgiving (Nov 21-22) but I can't find out the game times anywhere on TSSAA.org.
  25. Go cubs!!! I'm supposed to be a neutral sportscaster... but I've rooted for the cubs since 1982... when we got cable TV in my small town and I could go home from school and watch baseball. Now WGN doesn't show nearly as many games... so that means I have to keep my head down at my desk and actually work!!!
