  1. Anyone think that trojanbob is from Memphis?????????? No doubt Memphis has some good basketball, but 7 of the to 10 in West Tennessee?? No disrespect to any of the schools, but that could be a little far fetched.......... Chester Co, Obion Co, Brighton, and Trenton Peabody have to figure in there somewhere.
  2. The talent is still there, but the problem is getting it on the field. I know that there have been discipline problems that have kept some great players from playing, and others haven't played out of plain ol' laziness. The ones who do play, play with more heart than almost anyone, but are sometimes low on talent. This past year, however, their jr high program went 9-1 and their only loss was against West Tennessee champion Paris Inman in triple overtime. The talent is coming back to LC. If the new coach can bring new life to the program and make it fun for the kids, they could have a 1A power in a couple of years. best of luck to the new coach.

    Why Him?

Maybe he only caught 1 pass because Briarcrest's defense was that good. I mean, Briarcrest didnt do anything but win the state championship. I would bet that their defense had a little to do with Cottam not catching as many passes.
  4. Which 3A teams will be contending for the championship in the fall? I know Ridgeway will be ready to defend their title, and Crockett Co, Fulton, Covington, and others are always in the mix. Who should we watch out for in 2003?
  5. I think Middle Region was referring to the recruiting year, not the season. I agree: no one who loves the Big Orange wants to see another 8-5 year.. As for recruits, it comes down to what the kids do best and what the team needs most. A kid might be the best receiver in South Carolina and be recruited by the Gamecocks, but he knows that Lou Holtz runs the ball. He isn't going to shortchange himself by going into a running offense when he could go to Florida or Kentucky and get more touches per game. Also, team needs vary. Tennessee doesn't need to sign many (any) running backs this year because of what they have. Houston, Davis, Tinsley, and Riggs have that stable full for another year or two. The best running back isn't as needed as receivers like Jason Swain. If given the chance, Im sure UT would have loved to have gotten Adarius Bowman from Chatt. Notre Dame. UT needed receivers, and when Bowman decided to go to North Carolina, UT had to do what they could to get a quality receiever. Simply put, I wish UT could get more in-state signees, too. But as long as teams have specific needs and players want to have the best fit for themselves, and teams only have a limited number of scholarships, its no-holds-barred from coast to coast.
  6. FormerCav- I played for PA at Obion Co from 92-94 when he left for Crockett Co. PA is the one who ran the doublewing. We didnt have the personnel at OC to take advantage of it, and Larry Shanks was hired and put in the Power I. PA was offensive coordinator for Shanks. Whan PA left for Crockett Co, he took the double wing with him and implemented it there. We played them my senior year (PA's fist one down there) and they ran the double wing. It took a couple of years to get the players used to the system, but you can see how well it can be by the success they've had over the past couple of seasons. I do agree with you, however, that Garner was a key player in Crockett's turnaround. [Edited by PowerSet on 2-7-03 8:58A]
  7. Obion County's girls have proved to be a force in 13AA this year. As far as a state championship, there is A LOT of ball to be played between now and then. With Gibson Co and Westview in the same district, the tournaments will be interesting.
  8. Did former Dyer County coach Lynn Garner officially apply? It was rumored, but I never heard if he officially put his name in the hat.
  9. It doesnt get any better... The Lady Rebels play at Dyersburg Monday 3rd, at Greenfield Tuesday 4th, and at Fulton County KY Fri 7th. Hope they have enough left for about another month. (sorry Wes Charge, I know you wish otherwise)

    Dyer County?

Dyer Co should have a good bit of talent back next year, but experience will be a factor. Most of the players the past few years have graduated or will this spring. I believe that their QB this past year was a sophomore or maybe a junior, but the leading receiver and rusher were seniors. Potential is there. As for the feeder programs, things seem to be looking up. The old high school building is being converted into a middle school. Hopefully this will allow the high school coach to dictate a little of his philosophy to the kids that will be playing high school ball in the future. There are maybe two more football playing feeder schools, so that unity could be tricky. Loads of talent, and could be a good job for someone willing to put a little work into it.

    Dyer County?

Football seems to have taken a backseat to Baskeball in Choctaw land. Garner is a good coach, but things just werent right for him in DC, evidently. If he is looking at Lake County, he could be just like Pratt in a couple of years. Year in and year out, LC is loaded with talent, but little enthusiasm. A new, young emthusiastic coach could be just what they need. LC's jr high program went 9-1 last year, with that one loss being to Paris Inman who went to Memphis and beat their best team in the "West Tennessee Championship." Lake Co lost in triple overtime. If Garner does end up in LC, and he can get his numbers up and keep the players out of trouble, he should have a powerhouse in a couple of years.
  12. Chester Co would also be included. With or without Fuqua, amybody that beats Westview by 20 is for real. Jackson northside is also undefeated. JNS, CC, OC, GC, or Westview. [Edited by PowerSet on 1-25-03 5:47P]

    oc coach

Dodger14- What a screen name!! Do you still have the "Original" LA hat? I bet you still wear it. Hows it going?? IF you're wondering who I am, think about sitting on the side of the road outside Atlanta in a broken down tour bus on our way to St Simons Island, summer of 95. Rebel Beat was the best whenever you were the co-anchor. And we ran across each other in college and on softball fields time after time. Now we're both teachers and coaches. Small, small world isn't it?? I agree with your statements. I didnt agree with some of the things Whitby did, but I respected him for getting a team short on talent to perform year after year. Let me know how everything is going, Smiley. [Edited by PowerSet on 1-23-03 5:46P]
  14. In the case of a three way tie, overall record could be used. If thats the case, the strength of the non district schedule will be important. All three teams played very strong non district teams, so it could be interesting. There is no telling how this thing could turn out.
  15. Gibson Co showed up against OC. It makes me realize even more how evenly 13AA is matched. Both teams played well enough to win, but GC did what they needed to to get the victory. Should be a barnburner at The Pit. Great game from both teams.
  16. Who is willing to throw a score out for tonight's game? Both teams should match up pretty well. Could be a shoot-out at The Frontier. Here goes...........In a thriller....... OC-54 GC-48 Go Lady Rebs!!! Whoa!...my 100th post ~Plus Membership is forthcoming~
  17. Let us know how the game goes. I'll try to update the Obion Co--Gibson Co score if I can. Go Lady Chargers! Keep 13AA looking good!!!
  18. Thanks CoachT...As always, right on top of things.
  19. OCRebel- You are correct. I didnt make the Westview game. I was a bit under the weather. I know, I know, thats no excuse to miss THAT game, but I feel pretty sure they'll meet again somewhere down the road. I'm not going to be at GC tonight, b/c of the Obion Co Jr High Tournament. You can bet I'll be getting updates though. Here's a good mark for you OCRebel. As a language teacher, I enjoy seeing correct use of grammar, especially when used in good taste. Now you can give good marks. [Edited by PowerSet on 1-21-03 7:46A] [Edited by PowerSet on 1-21-03 7:50A]
  20. Im confused.... A thread that I posted had profanities in it??? I can assure you that I didnt knowingly type any. My computer at school is in a locked room, and none of my students even know what CoachT is. If any of my students did type on the board, I will find out. I apologize to the entire board if it was my username that was used. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I was unaware that any bad language was used. It must have been removed before I checked the board that day. Again sorry for the mix-up. Go 13AA!! [Edited by PowerSet on 1-20-03 12:23P]
  21. If my comments were taken the wrong way, I apologize. I meant it to actually be a compliment to Westview and Gibson Co. I agreed with an earlier post that OC outplayed the 'View on one night, ONE NIGHT! It honestly wouldnt surprise me to see them (Westview) run the table the rest of the year (although Gibson Co, Obion Co., and others would have something to say about that). In no way did I intentionally try to disrespect the Lady Chargers. Thats why I also said that it meant nothing in the tournaments coming up next month. Im sorry if I was mistaken. You can check each of the nearly 100 posts I've added to this board and I'll bet you wouldn't find a negative or cocky post on any of them. I have no reason to run people down or toot my own horn on a message board. My time is more valuable than that. And I assure you, you will be hard pressed to find a more adamant Rebel fan than me. And one more thing.... WesCharge- Before you put your foot in your mouth again... I am not from Samburg, but many of the kids I teach and coach are. If you have stooped to the level of talking about where a person is from, you've lost the respect I had for you. For your conscience, I hope that was just a joke. 22. Good job dcchoctaws. There really is some good basketball being played in 13AA right now.
  23. Way to go Lady Rebels and Lady Chargers. When two great teams play each other, the fans get a treat. That happened last night. Both teams played well, OC just played a little better. The same thing happened in Martin, with Westview coming out on top. Can't wait till tournament time!!! WesCharge- We kept the farm animals off the court just for you last night. lol
  24. Im not as outspoken as workman14, but the Lady Rebels surely showed that they can play with anyone with their victory over Westview. And, I disagree with you; I think that 13AA has three teams that could compete with the Jackson Counties of the world. Westview, OC, and GC can hold their own with anyone in the state. I still stick to my guns that two of those three will be in Murfreesboro in March. And, yes, OC outplayed Westview last night. Does that guarantee victory in the district tourney? Absolutely not. I think when these two heavyweights tangle again, it will be just like the last two contests. Good luck the rest of the season Lady Chargers, Lady Rebels, and Lady Pioneers. Gonna be a fun 13AA tournament!!
