    Region 3 - 5A

Region 3-5A should be better overall this year. Many think that the region is a weaker region, but I think the region is going to surprise many teams this year with their talent. Cookeville is definitely on the upswing and I here Cumberland Co. is as well. Both Lincoln and Coffee Co will be talented. The only team that I am not sure about is Franklin Co. What does everyone else think about the region?
  2. Congratulations to the lady Cavaliers in defending their 7AAA district title. Now it is time to take care of Columbia in the regionals. GO CAVS !!!!
  3. Riverdale will be able to utilize their team speed and quickness to beat Germantown. Playing on artificial turf should benefit Riverdale. Riverdale wins by a touchdown.
  4. Riverdale has a young team this year and probably should be considered a under dog in this game. But it seems like every year, they find some way to get into the 5A championship. They have good speed and Rankin will come up with a solid game plan. Riverdale wins by 7.
  5. If Riverdale gets their tail back more carries and no turnovers, then they should win. The tail back can really accelerate through the hole and he doesn' t mind trying to run over the defender. I was impressed with his speed through the first 20 yards. I say Riverdale by two touchdowns.
  6. Oakland 2001, you may have just named your teams poison against Lincoln Co. The Cavs will be ready to play Riverdale, you can bet on it. They always seem to turn it up a notch at playoff time. GO CAVS !!!
  7. Cookeville is not overlooking Franklin Co. and I do not think they really care who they play in the playoffs. They have had some good practices this week and seem to be loose and ready to play. Go Cavs !!
  8. After watching Lincoln County victory over Cookeville, I can honestly say that the they will whip Coffee County up and down the field. They are the real deal and have one of the best defenses that I have seen. Both of LC defensive tackles were terrors. Lincoln County wins by 35 plus. PS Some Cookeville fans seem to think that scoring late in the 4th quarter against Cookeville was unsportman like. All that I have to say about that is we should not have let up and put ourselves in that predicament.
  9. It is time for the Cavs to pull together and put together a winning performance. I know that they have a good team, but have not been able to get into the win colume for the past three weeks. Look for the Cavs to be prepared for this Friday nights game. GO CAVS !!!!
  10. Disgustedfan, your high speed film will not do you any good with Coker. The speed of light is 186,282 miles per second, we're talking star trek speed. The Cavs will definitely have to use their warp drive to control the ball against Antioch. All kidding aside, Gallatin used ball control to limit Coker to 10 carries. Time of possesion was a key to Gallatin's victory last week. Go Cavs !!!!!
  11. Look for the Cavs to give Antioch all they want this Friday night. It will be a close game and the Cavs are going to need a good effort to win. The Cavs have reached a crossroad for this season and they will need to detemine the direction the season is going to go from here on out. I am 110% behind this team and I know they can make the remainder of this season a success. GO CAVS !!!!!

    Longsnappers

Bluefan2 hit the nail on the head. Long and short snappers do not get the credit they deserve. The only time they get noticed is when they have a bad snap. Long snapping is a skill that many schools have not developed and is a important part of the game. It takes constant practice to get to the point that a coach does not have to worry about long snapping and making extra points. If you are reading this post, remember how much presure, your teams LS is under and how important he is to winning the game.
  13. The list below is the total rushing yards for Cookeville vs. Coffee county. Paxton 14-138 yds Wolf 2-65 yds Buckner 10-30 yds Ledford 5-29 yds Adams 1-12 yds Toline 4-11 yds Total of 36 carries for 285 rushing yards for a average of 7.92 yards per carry. Not too shabby in my book. All of the running backs and OL did a decent job with the rush and pass protection. Turnovers and the mental game led to the Cavaliers downfall. The Cavaliers major difficulties are still the ramifications of not playing as team. More emphasis needs to be put on team play and mental discipline. I know the Cavs can turn it around with a little work and toughness. Go Cavs !!!
  14. Saw LA a few times this summer and Smith Co at Cookeville, Riverdale scrimmage. LA is loaded with talent at the skill positions. I think they could be a top 10 in 3A. Sorry, LA by two TD's.
  15. I have seen both teams and LA should win by two touchdowns. LA skill players are excellent.
  16. Just wanted to give credit to the Cookeville O-line. They opened up some huge holes for the backs. Everyone thought they would be suspect this year, but they really blocked well against White county. The ground game was probably over 300 yards. Good job !! Go Cavs
  17. Mr. Sadler, 4 walls has not been on the field for over 28 years, so I don't think Coach J will mind if I do a little posting. Now, the Cavs had a good practice today from what I heard and they should be ready to light it up Friday night. Go Cavs.
  18. Joslin will have the Cavs ready for their opener. They will be prepared and ready to begin the season. They have looked good during most of the scrimmages and if they were going to make mistakes, better to do it in the jamboree than during a regular season game. I know that White Co. is a better team this year, but they will not be underestimated. The Cavs will take a lesson from the Tullahoma game and be prepared to start their season. GO CAVS !!!!!!!
  19. In response to disgustedfan, basically this was nothing but a scrimmage, with 2 quarters of freshmen football, the 3rd quarter was JV and the 4th was varsity. The Cavs did not have the best game, but it is definitely not time to preach gloom and doom. The Cavs scrimmaged Austin-East on Wednesday night, so it did not surprise me that they did not have their best game. Joslin will have his team mentally prepared when the season starts, you can bet on it. Seems to me that the same thing happened to the Cavs last year and they ended up region champ. They will gel and play as a team and be successful.
  20. If Lincoln county avoids the turnovers and penalties, they should win by a touchdown.
  21. Old news, Stratford backed out. Muffin, you must be bored to tears, to get this out of the archives. GO CAVS !!!!!!!
  22. Both Cookeville and Riverdale were really throwing some licks early. All three teams had good and bad moments, but all in all, it was good experience for all teams involved. I think all three teams will be among the elite teams in their region and classification. Way to go Cavs!!!
  23. The Cavaliers will host Riverdale and Smith county Friday at 5.00 pm at Cookeville, for a scrimmage. GO CAVS !!!!!
  24. Maybe two at best! It will take a couple of years for them to have a winning season!
  25. North Gwinette came off of a week of football camp at Tusculum college. They had to be worn down some by Friday. I think Maryville would have had a much more difficult time with them if they had not been going home after a week of camp. Maryville caught them at a good time.
