  1. The Tribe currently stands at 2 - 14 overall, and 0-5 in conference. They lost by 40+ to Crocket, 50+ to Oak Ridge twice. For reference, Karns (an above average Knoxville public school) lost to OR by 4. As it stands, DB is not even competitive. I realize this sounds like fiction, too strange to believe. However, it is true. Two kids that would normally be at DB are attending private school. One of those will be playing at UT next year. I have heard that another kid transferred to Crocket, but I don't know that 100% for certain. Several players also quit last year, I believe. More quit recently. This is certainly the worst team in the modern era, and probably the worst in school history by far. A bit of history...Dobyns Bennett has/had the winningest basketball program in the United States of America - in spite of the current and previous coach. I am guessing that would probably extend to the winningest basketball program on the freaking planet. The current athletic director is an abject failure. He was a less than average basketball coach who was (again, unbelievably) promoted to AD. A glimmer of hope...he is retiring (yes, this jack-#### has been there long enough to retire!) at year's end. He has not created a culture or expectation of excellence. His reign of terror will come to an end shortly. So, what to do about it? Posting on this forum with excessive hyperbole won't create change. I suggest calling the superintendent. Have your friends call him. Let your voice be heard. Contact the school board. If you want things to change, put some skin in the game. I know that folks from within city government have meet with the super to offer their assistance in getting things righted. The band program is ultra successful. Ask yourself why. It's not happening by chance or good fortune. Simple answer: leadership. Everyone pulling in the same direction.
  2. I am surprised that there hasn't been any discussion about the suspension here on the forums. Heck, there is hardly any discussion relative to Knoxville hoops.
  3. Yes,my understanding of it was that the baseball program was not as successful as what Maryville folks wanted it to be. Therefore, they went in a different direction.
  4. Gaylord is a good assistant coach. He was fired recently from head coaching duties of the Maryville baseball team. I don't think he has the drive to be a head coach. He has that reputation. Doesn't seem that Maryville has had much of a drop off since Gaylor''s 'resignation' from defensive coordinator.
  5. I am not so sure that we would want Clark as AD. He is basically on the verge of being fired or encouraged to retire. Does it make any sense to promote someone that has not effectively managed the health of the football program over that last few years? Could he distance himself from the staffing decisions that the new coach would want to make as the new guy assembles his staff? He has shown that he is too loyal to his staff. The 'good ole boy' system that is so often referenced. Heck, most of the assistant coaches listed on the DB website played for Graham. My fear is that Graham gets the promotion and then he promotes one of the assistant coaches to head coach. Just imagine that nightmare scenario. We need new blood. Top to bottom.
  6. Hardin Valley gave up 18 to Bradley Central last night, which is somewhat less than the 56 that the Tribe surrendered one week ago. HVA had opportunities to win but they couldn't take advantage. As we know DB was incredibly fortunate to get the victory over HVA. HVA's facilities look like a third-world country when compared to DB. However, they are physical, play hard, and are fairly well coached. Can the same be said of the Indians? A school with DB's facilities should have no excuse for not being successful. So, what's the problem? Coaching? Athletic director? I wonder if the problem doesn't go even higher - The Central Office? A better question is what will it take for important change to occur. And, who is going to lead the effort.
  7. Correct. They are a physical football team. Played Maryville as well as anyone last year during the regular season. Should've/could've beaten Sevier County during the playoffs last year. This won't be a cake walk for the Tribe.
  8. I agree. No walk in the park. Tribe wins, though. It will be interesting to see how many fans HVA brings to J. Fred. Yes, they had a great baseball team. Just like that other team in West Knoxville.
  9. I don't believe that DB will be quite able to name the score in this one, but I certainly expect that they will win handily. HVA runs a spread offense, and they have a nice running game. They have three or four good backs. QB rarely runs. Passing game is mostly horizontal as opposed to a vertical attack. HVA's QB is a Farragut transfer, and he had only been with the team for a couple of weeks when the then starting QB broke his leg. They don't have a lot depth. Most skill players and linemen play both ways. Line has nice size, but again they play both ways. WRs are not a threat. Place kicking is a bit of a disaster. Seems like they miss as many XPs as they make. Well coached team. The story of the game will be HVA's ability to stay ahead of the chains. If they find themselves looking at second or third and long, they will be in real trouble.
  10. About DB's defense... Who is their new defensive coordinator? What is his background? Where else has he coached? What can we look for as far as scheme goes?
  11. Rent a house or apartment. Maybe never even live there. It happens.
  12. This DB fan is looking forward to the game and a great atmosphere! I know there will be plenty of maroon and grey there. I saw Maryville earlier this year, and they are solid. I have not seen DB, so I only know what I have read about them. Should be a fun game.
  13. As best I could tell, the Kingsport paper didn't cover the game either. And,that's not really surprising.
  14. That would also have put him on Van Huss' s**t list. Morgan has had more dual sport athletes then Buck ever did.
  15. I think Fair had 23 and Smith had 40.
  16. Yes. I also went to the Bearden HVA game, and I was impressed with Fair. Just a better coached team. I really don't understand HVA's substitution patterns. HVA typically runs a platoon system where five new players come in at a time. Seems like they swap platoons about every three minutes. I am still trying to see where this provides them with an advantage because they really arent deep enough for two platoons. They give up waaaay toooo many layups, and they take bad shots.
  17. Is basketball so dead in the Tri-Cities that no one even cares to comment on what I would think to be a huge rivalry game? At least it used to be a rivalry game. Have DB and Science Hill really fallen that far?
  18. Who are the four, and where did they go?
  19. Yeah, I heard it was a fantastic game. Carter scored 114 - and lost! Not a printed word in the knoxville news sentinel today either.
  20. First, there are plenty of folks that would debate your point about Clark being a great coach. I can tell you that very few in the Knoxville area consider him to be great, and that is solely based on his playoff record. His record is not debatable, and it is not a matter of interpretation. It is what it is, and as a coach you simply are what your record says you are. Clark has been the coach for an eternity now, and he has had ample time to 'build a foundation'. If the foundation still needs to be built, he is either doesnt want to build it or he is incapable of doing so. Either way, the result is the same. With all due respect, the concept of hiring the baseball coach as a replacement is simply bizarre. On several levels.
  21. As a SC fan, I can understand your thoughts on that. The SC field is very nice. I really like the black outlines on the yard numbers. Very nice. I was not a big fan of the new 'advertisematron' that you guys have installed. No. Replays. Ever. Never. Not. One. Only. Advertisements. Seriously, why have it if it is only for advertising?
  22. Uhhh, yeah, you can say that the refs had a minor impact on the game (sarcasm emphasized). They blew a huge call that allowed a fumble return for a TD by the Bears.
