  1. It seems that I remember a few years back when Portland was still strong and then there was some type of division that came between the football and basketball programs. From what I heard the basketball players that played football gave it up and the football team lost a lot of talent. Was there anything to this?
  2. Springfield's going to have to pull an experienced coach from a good sized program to get back to the level that they need to be. And with moving up in the classifications, the job is going to be even harder.
  3. The refs aren't consistent on enforcing the rule either. You could also include the bands that continually play when they're not supposed to.
  4. I'm sure some are but I think it gets harder and harder to keep them in the program. You're always going to have the small core group of kids that play and you'll have decent parental support. I think when they get in high school that many just lose interest due to all the "extra-curricular" activities that come about and there's sometimes not enough outside support to keep them in it. A kid definitely needs some support from home encouraging them to stick with a game like football.
  5. I'm sure they are preparing for basketball practice. Just like every school in Tennessee is, regardless of what's going on with football. You don't put off basketball just because football is still going on.
  6. I agree. I like Holman and he does well with the middle school but I doubt he could ever keep a high school program in control at Springfield. (I've heard from some of the coaches that this is one of the big problems that they face) I think Holman's success comes mostly from having players with more athletic ability than most of the teams that he runs up against.
  7. It's hard to believe with the athletes that they have, and with the success that they have in middle school, that they can't keep the program going. Especially with the tradition that they have. I guess it's like most everywhere else these days, it's hard for the coaches or the school to do it by themselves.
  8. Where did Thomas go and is he still coaching?
  9. UT didn't ruin Crompton, he's just not any good. He's not an SEC QB. They should have never brought him in on scholarship. Probably the same with Stephens. UT wanted Cobb as a DB but he was interested in QB. Cobb's not the type of QB that UT is normally interested in. He'll be a good player for KY.
  10. With White House playing as good as they have been lately, I think they're about due to have an off night but who's to say that this Friday will be the one. Home field will be a big advantage for the Devils.

  12. Couple of brothers that played at Springfield in the late 90s or so. Pretty good players. I know at least one of them played at Austin Peay.
  13. Really hard to see either of the Wilsons as a head coach at this point but you never know. They would be good as assistants though. Springfield definitely needs the program turned around. There's too many good players and the program has too much history for it to be in the shape that's it's in.
  14. You could probably get some answers quickly if you started a separate thread with this topic. Several coaches will probably reply.
  15. I believe Meigs came to Greenbrier in 2005.
  16. Prayers go out to them. You kind of see how quickly football loses it's importance.
  17. There's no sense in padding your schedule with patsies for out of region. At least for Greenbrier, I know we've played teams like Ft. Campbell, Beech, Marshall Cty, David Lipscomb, Pope John Paul to name a few. You may suffer some losses but your team is much more prepared for the region run.
  18. I think you got your numbers a little bit off. Only one school is over 1000 and they're moving out. Pearl Cohn High School 675 (Had been very dominate until this year) DeKalb Co. High School 824 (Very good playoff team) Sycamore High School 842 (Good playoff team) Greenbrier High School 868 (Not in playoffs) White House High School 897 (Region winner) Macon Co. High School 913 (Not in playoffs) Station Camp High School 1186 (moving out of region and did not win region) (From TSSAA Reclassification web page) I most of the teams in Region 4 play a fairly difficult out-of-region schedule and then they face a pretty difficult in-region one. I think this plays more into the better playoff showing.
  19. Congrats Devils. Nice sweep 4-3A... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  20. Top to bottom, our region is just stronger than yours. That's not a cut down. It's just the way it is. You won't beat White House.
  21. First playoff game, long trip, and White House at home just gives the Devils that much more advantage. WH without any problem.
  22. Which region champ will have the home field advantage for the majority of the play-offs? I believe it rotates but I wasn't sure where it was this year.
  23. Just to clarify... SuperBowlDream is not associated with Greenbrier. He must just be anti-White House. If WH wants to go for 2, it's Greenbrier's job to try to stop it. As far as classifications, GB and WH will both be classified as "4A" next year with student totals of about 30 different. White House has a great team this year. The Cats are somewhat rebuilding and need to get some fire back in the program.
  24. Obviously not a good night for the Cats. Mercy! Mercy!
  25. I know it's a football board and a GB vs WH thread but I've got to say congrats to the GB Lady Volleyballers for back-to-back State Championships. They took the win this afternoon. Maybe they can show up in White House tonight and bring the football team some good mojo... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
