  1. Cole Rose - BGA. Can play 1 or 2. 6'4" with long arms, good shooter, good ballhandler, good passer.
  2. Ego- I liked your post so much I joined; should have done it sooner.
  3. I have three sons; 2 of them were coached by Jerry before he went to MBA. I would not hesitate to let Jerry coach my youngest son. In my experience, everything Jerry did was to help improve each player's skills, toughness and character. He certainly had a very positive influence on my kids. Jerry has forgotten more basketball then I will ever know. I think the world of Jerry; I am glad the apple fell close to the tree - an orchard full of those trees would be just fine with me. My best wishes to Jerry - I am certain there is a better opportunity waiting for him.
  4. I have seen the other teams. Can someone tell me about Lausanne? From the scoreboard, it looks like MBA played them pretty close @ mid-season. Besides Gasol, what else do they have?
  5. I have heard it is at BA, but do not know this for sure.
  6. I tried to post results earlier, but got a message "WEB SITE NOT RESPONDING" WesVols - nice job on the stats and prediction. BGA played very good defense last night. They were patient on offense and took what MBA gave them - Barnes and Ross got open shots under the basket. This is a good win for BGA - they really needed it. As I remember, the top 3 teams from the middle region tournament advance. I don't think seeding will be as critical as in past years - in my opinion all the teams are capable of winning a game on any given night. This is going to be a really exciting tournament. I like BA's chances because of their size. I like Ryan's chances because of their experience. I hope BGA can get a couple W's and advance.
  7. The extra timeout is a scorekeeper error. I doubt the experienced BA coaches would call a timeout if they knew they did not have one. I did not see their assistant check, but it makes sense and I do not doubt it. I did see BGA's assistant show his book (which no doubt showed 5 already taken). We will never know if it was important. The timeout did give BA's coach a chance to settle his young players and set up his defense. BGA would have done exactly as they did - inbounds to Cole Rose and let him try to get to the foul line or get a good shot. I agree with WesVol, the goal tending call was questionable. I would not believe (or even want to imply) that the scorekeeper timeout error was intentional - as I posted previous, the scorekeeper had trouble a couple of times earlier in the game. So far as the ball @@@@, it makes sense you don't want the little kids playing with the balls at half time. I guess our "small" team was probably hard to tell apart from the other small kids in the gym (even though they had on blue uniforms and stood in two lines waiting to start their drills). 8. WesVols... My original prediction, 50-48 BGA, was off as BGA could not pull out the win. Congradulations to BA. I was sitting across from the BGA bench and video taped the game. After watching the tape, some comments: 1) The other post is correct, BA called 6 timeouts. This should have resulted in a technical foul; it certainly would have resulted in a different ending. When BGA complained to the officials, they did nothing. 2) BGA should have pressed sooner. They did not press until the 4th quarter - the press resulted in turnovers and BGA was quickly back in the game. The score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 43 - 31 BA leading. Final was 48 - 46. 3) The officials were consistantly bad - both ways. 4) The score keeper had trouble all night. The game was delayed a couple of times for the score keeper. 5) BA guard Bone is going to be a good player (actually, he already is). He made some big shots. King Dunlap has improved from last year - although he did not put up big numbers, he was a factor. The best player for BA is Wright. He had some good rebounds, blocked shots, and made some free throws. WesVols .. can you explain why BA refused to unlock the basketball bin at halftime to allow BGA to warm-up? BGA stood on the court without a basketball for 3 - 4 minutes. BA came out of the lockers with 2 - 3 minutes left, but still would not unlock the ball bin. I hope no one misunderstands my post. I do not mean it to be "sour grapes". I do not think the scorekeeper error was intentional, and I do not think BA cheats (as is suggested in the other post). This was a really fun high school bball game to watch; I hope the next one is as good (but with a BGA win). Again, my congradulations to BA.
  9. I like your comments, but do not agree. BGA is 8-2; they lost their first game at Lawrence Co. BGA's loss to MBA was largely due to poor shooting after a 10 day holiday lay-off. Also, MBA is much better than their record indicates. Jerry Meyer is a very good coach and his team will get harder to beat as the season goes on. BGA and BA have at least one common opponent - McCallie. BGA beat McCallie in a close game; I believe BA lost to McCallie in a close game. I think this will be a lower scoring game than you are predicting. BA is stronger inside; BGA has better guard play. I think good guard play is more important in high school ball. I pick BGA to win 50 - 46.
  10. Since DII was formed, the middle region has been, and still is, the toughest. Father Ryan was the best team in the state last year (all classes). MBA is always well coached. They may be off to a slow start this year, but they will be playing good ball by tournament time. BA is physical and loaded with atheletes. USN is much improved this year, with their new transfer players. And, my favorite, BGA, beat McCallie Saturday and will be an improved team by tournament time. I predict, as in the past, there will be a couple of teams from the middle region in the final four in the 'boro this spring. Father Ryan will be one of them. The region tournament will be a tough and interesting battle for the rest.
  11. McCallie plays at BGA Saturday 12/7. I have been told that the game times are now: Boy's JV @ 2:00; Boy's Varsity @ 6:00. GO BGA !! [Edited by CUFan on 12-6-02 4:59P]
  12. I was there last night, and it was fun. I think it has been at least 4 - 5 years since BGA beat Franklin. The game was actually closer than I thought it should be. BGA missed some free throws and Franklin hit some 3's at the end of the game. BGA played good man to man defense, however, still has a long way to go on the offensive end. Franklin will be better next time - their football players are just getting used to basketball again. As for Centenial, it can wait. McCallie is next and they will be a huge challange. By the way, the McCallie game time Saturday has been moved up - as I understand it the Varsity Boys will now start at 6:00

I watched the BGA / Perry County scrimmage. Both teams looked a little rusty. BGA led most of the game - but Perry County continued to play hard and stayed in the game right to the end. BGA's lead was single digits most of the game; once or twice as much as 10 - 12 points. Final was approx. 65 - 58 BGA winning. It looked to me the teams were pretty evenly matched, it is hard to say because the scrimmage was sloppy. I thought Perry County looked OK - they have the potential to be a pretty good team.
  14. I think Ryan will be the team to beat in D-2. BGA, BA and MBA will be good also. The only reason I don't think Ryan is the team to beat in Williamson County is beacause they are in Nashville. [Edited by CUFan on 10-22-02 4:42P]
