    I've read it as well in the subscription part of the DNJ on-line, so it is not a rumor. I had heard great things of the young man so I hope this is an isolated incident and not an indication of more problems to come. The DNJ article mentioned he is 18. That's an adult in any book so this is more serious than some junior high scuffle. I just hope for his sake that this is shown to be an over reaction in charging him with assault.

  9. I think it was family considerations. My understanding was he was good with his grades and would have graduated in '04 giving him the option of returning for his fourth year of eligibility or going pro. I think it was a mistake, but I wish him good luck.

  11. my thoughts on that is that the Ohio State coach doing the recruiting made an offer or the promise of an offer and when the head man saw they had other higher rated linemen available to them he nixed the offer but it was never communicated to Buford who was left to twist slowly in the wind while the Buckeyes got other commitments from linemen they wanted more. Unscrupulous, but that seems to be something that a lot of BCS schools do. We are very glad to have Mr. Buford as a Blue Raider, like his father before him.

  15. 4-8 was disappointing. Injuries were killers. Dwone Hicks, Andrico Hines, Tyrone Calico, and other key personnel were injured an d missed games throughout the season. When you have those kind of injuries and the fact that Middle Tennessee is still not at the 85 scholarship maximun by more than a dozen, a 4-8 season is understandable. The fact is Middle Tennessee is still in the progress of building a 1A football program and there are still great opportunities for young men to come to Middle Tennessee and as CoachMac says: "Be the reason why (at Middle Tennessee) and not just another guy," at some other school.   19. Well I have given you an explanation why they are going to Middle Tennessee. They will have a better chance to succeed at Middle Tennessee than at some juco where too many will end up and will not be in any better shape as far as academic preparation two years from now than after high school. I think everyone realizes that cultural and socio-economic problems exist where some of these kids come from and that the HS teachers, coaches, and parents do not do the job they should demanding kids hit the books, but given the social climate today where test scores are automatically dismissed by some as biased, you should not expect a great deal of improvement until community leaders, as well as parents, demand academic excellence instead of providing excuses why Johnny can't do algebra. BTW, has anyone informed you that putting your message in all Caps is akin to shouting and is very grating to read on these boards?
  20. "kpteam" I am sitting here trying to determine what your motivation is for your posts on this subject and singling out the players that have decided to go to Middle Tennessee. I assure you they will get better academic support and will be expected to be students at Middle Tennessee than if they went to some juco in east dustbowl, oklahoma. Middle Tennessee is a good university and since it is a member of the Sun Belt which does not put a limit on props, unlike some other D1 conferences, it offers a good opportunity for a kid to go to a university setting from the very first and get his academics in order before playing. IMHO, it is a lot better environment for a kid to prop at a major university than a junior college setting where the kid is playing from the outset and not doing much more than he did in HS, if that, for his academic responsibilities. Its too bad that you have a problem with young men trying to go a route that offers them a chance to get their academics in order and therefore a better opportunity to graduate from college than to get into a juco feeder for some university two years down the line with no better academic preparation than when they left HS.
