  1. Nice win for the Cavs as they took advantage of 2 South Side fumbles to lead 23-0 at halftime. The 2nd half saw South Side do a much better job stopping the Cavs running game and finally getting Towater loose to do some damage on the outside. I doubt either coach is satisfied with their team's performance. The Cavs had a few killer holding calls and one roughing the QB call that wont make Coach Pratt a very happy camper. Ill call it a workman like effort overall for Crockett as they got the job done against a tough South Side squad. Crockett has region road games left with Bolivar and Fayette Ware....2 teams that shouldnt offer much competition to stopping the Cavs from finishing the regular season 10-0. As for who is number one in the polls, I could care less. Polls are for fans and mean nothing. State championships are won on the field...not decided by some sportswriter who has never seen half the teams they are voting for play. Ill take Number 1 in Region 6AAA....and home field advantage for the first 2 possible playoff games.
  2. I have no dog in this hunt at all but here's my opinion. I cheer for a team that played and beat both Milan and Mitchell last year (Crockett County) and I was as surprised as anyone at Mitchell's playoff run. But the fact is they beat Peabody, Union City, Milan and McKenzie fair and square on the field....I dont care about field conditions because both teams played on the same field. I give Mitchell all the credit in the world for making it to the Clinic Bowl and they did it by beating good teams playing good football. As for this year, only time will tell. Milan is a great team, probably the best in rural West TN, and there is a good chance that Milan and Mitchell will get the chance to settle this argument where it needs to be settled...between the lines on a Friday night. That's the great thing about High School Football. It all gets settled on the field and not in the polls. Good luck to both teams.
  3. Ill give ole Fearless credit for going with his head most of the time. Ill go on the record and say he picks the Cavs since they are at home. As for the game, this will be a battle in the trenches. Im always concerned with any team who can use a power running attack like South Side can. Our Defense does a good job overall, but we arent as big up front as in the past and I think the best idea is to run the ball between tackles and move the chains. If the Hawks can be succesful with the power game, it will open up Towater to fake the dives, get the Defense to commit and then do what he does best. SShawks you are more than welcome to join us at 6:00 in the corner of the parking lot near the scoreboard. Im not sure what is on the menu but stop by and enjoy some Crockett County hospitality.
  4. I heard the caller too...and i believe he had been tilting a few during the night. I love the Cavs as much as anyone but this will not be a 3 TD difference either way. South Side and Crockett County respect one another and this should be one heck of a game. Ill be there tailgating early with a large group of Cavalier fans, and Ill be in my seat by 6:45 at the latest. Im looking forward to the large crowd and a great battle between two fantastic teams.

Congrats to South Side on winning the mythical city championship of Jackson. We Crockett County fans are looking forward to next Friday's battle of the unbeatens. These 2 teams always put on a classic matchup and I have a feeling it will be another great game. Get there early if you want a seat!!!!!!
  6. USJ is on fall break Friday and Monday so they are playing tonight in case people are leaving town on Friday for the break.
  7. Earnest Williams from Crockett County. And yes.....Im biased.
  8. This game is played at USJ but it is being played on Thursday night.
  9. I dont agree with the "USJ is weak" statement...i think they may be down a bit this year but their 2 losses are to 3A Southside who is undefeated and a good 4A North Side team. USJ's biggest problem is the loss of Ross at QB. They had to move their other receiving threat to QB in Merriweather. McNairy should be large enough up front to control both sides of the line of scrimmage but USJ is used to being undersized. I think the interesting thing will be to see how McNairy bounces back from getting manhandled by Crockett County last Friday. If they have the guts that I think they do, they should be able to win tonight. However, if there are some lingering effects of last week around....dont be suprised to see USJ win at home. I'll go out on a limb and say McNairy 24 USJ 17.
  10. First of all I have to say that The Cavs better bring their A game to Lexington this Friday or a lot of the luster of the SouthSide game will be diminished. Lexington has some great skill players and I think they can play with anyone in the Region on a given night. As for whether the game will get the hype....I think that should both teams win this Friday the game will get its proper hype in the Jackson Sun. Lets be honest, the Milan/Huntingdon games deserves all the hype it is getting because this is the game of the year in AA in West Tennessee. Whether the game will get the Coach T hype depends on the fans of both squads. I know that their arent near as many Cavalier/Hawk fans who post here but maybe we can get some friendly hype going after Friday night. Im looking forward to another classic game in a great rivalry.
  11. All these guys mentioned were great running backs, however my top two would have to be Kelsey Williams and Al Wilson. They could run the ball between the tackles and use their speed to beat you outside. No ill intent against any of the other names mentioned, but Williams and Wilson were...im my humble opinion...the best of the bunch. As for third...i would have to say either McElrath or Willis in terms of pure domination.
  12. ummmm....Thriller....the game was played last Friday night and Crockett won 45-16.
  13. Ridgeway was simply the most athletic team I had ever seen on a high school football field. The holes were there....they were closed quickly with Ridgeway's athleticism. And if i remember correctly it was a 10-0 game with 4 minutes left...then the Cavs were forced to throw the ball and Ridgeway took over 2 times inside the Cav 20 after 4 and outs and scored quick TD's. I will give Ridgeway all the credit in the world for beating CCHS and winning the state championship against Fulton. This offense isnt designed to hit quickly...although with some of the athletes at RB the past few years they have done so. It is designed to wear down the opponents Defense over the entire game. And it has worked to perfection for the most part over the years.
  14. A big thumbs up to the Cavaliers for answering what they could do against a solid McNairy Central squad. I think the Cavs proved they were ready for the competition as they won big at home despite fumbling 3 times...one of which was returned for a late TD by the Bobcats. Earnest Williams ran for 3 touchdowns and caught another pass for a score and RBs Chris Ingram (2TDs) and Brett Mullins also ran the ball well all night long. McNairy moved the ball on the ground at times but the Cavalier D played well for most of the night. The Cavalier Offensive Line opened some large holes against a larger McNairy Defensive front....wearing them down as the game progressed. Great effort from the entire team. Up next.....a solid Lexington team on the road. I hope the Cavs dont get caught looking ahead to Southside in 2 weeks. Congrats guys on a super effort and your 2nd region win.
  15. Massey is still starting....he played pretty well tonight....i left with the Cavs leading 35-0 in the 3rd quarter. Tyler has been playing some DB and RB since about week 3. The cast is off but Im not sure what the plan is beginning next Friday against McNairy. Tyler give the Cavs a much better passing threat than Massey does. Im sure P.A. will do what he thinks is best for the team once Tyler is ready to play QB again.
  16. Major oops......for some reason i thought the game was at the Rock. Okay...disregard my previous post and prediction although I will not delete it because I love letting the world see how stupid I can be. Humility can be a good thing. I do hereby recant my previous prediction and change it to: Milan 24 JCM 10 BTW....Ill be at Crockett/Manassas......should be a thriller Im sure.
  17. Earnest Williams from Crockett County is being heavily recruited by lots of SEC schools. He would probably play DB in college because he just doesnt have the size to carry the ball in the SEC. Interestingly enough, he could probably be just as good a point guard in Division I basketball as he is a football player. This guy is a tremendous athelete.
  18. The real games in this region dont begin until next week. Being a Crockett fan Im still waiting to see how they fare against a higher caliber team. I think the Westview and SBEC games shouldnt have been as close as they were if this team had played to their full potential. The QB situation is still fuzzy.....Massey has done a good job but is not ready to make plays by himself. He is running the offense effectively but will have trouble throwing the ball against a tough defense. I dont know what Pratt is going to do once Tyler Mosier is back at full speed ready to play QB again. Tyler is a super athelete who give our offense so many more dimensions besides handing off to the running backs. He can throw the ball and is a threat to run it himself. Ill be interested to see if Tyler gets any snaps tonight against Manassas. This team has the potential to go a long way but with McNairy, Lexington and South Side up the next 3 weeks, its time to show their stuff. Im sure Pratt will have them ready to go.
  19. I think this is a matchup between the top 2 teams in West TN on paper. Granted, Milan's opponents thus far have a combined record of 1-16, but Westview, Union City, and Henry County are usually better than they have shown this year. JCM has something to prove after losing 2 straight..if they can overcome their injury situation. I think JCM will win this one at home.....call it JCM 21 Milan 17.
  20. I think this is the week that GC gets that streak off their backs. Doug can turn this program around if he is given enough time by the GC system. He was a part of the turnaround at Crockett County and he knows that you have to build the program from the bottom up. Unfortunately, he doesnt have just a single feeder program at the middle school level like Pratt does at Crockett, so it will be harder for the Pioneers to turn the corner. Plus he has to deal with some of the better players going to Milan. Good luck to Coach Argo and the Pioneers this Friday.
  21. What a shocker!!! Congrats to the Rebels of Obion County. Just curious where the game was played.
  22. Crockett County defeated a very tough SBEC team by the final of 42-21. The Cavs ran the ball pretty much at will all night long but had lots of trouble stopping the Trojans of SBEC from throwing the ball. The Cavalier offensive line wore down a smaller Trojan defense in the 2nd half after leading 21-14 at the half, despite blowing a 1st and goal and coming away with no points the final minute before halftime. Im betting the secondary will spend a little extra time defending the pass in practice this week.
  23. I think the jury is still out on Coach Stowe....one bad year, one good year, and a tough start to this year. Granted they have played 3 tough teams (Covington, Ripley, and Dyersburg) to begin the season, however things arent as rosy in Brownsville as they used to be. I know for a fact that he has a tough time keeping kids interested in football and keeping them eligible academically. Its one of the reasons that Phil Massey left. There are too many other distractions, most of them bad, keeping kids from playing football. Look at what is happening in other towns where football used to be king (Humboldt, Bolivar, Lake County to name a few). Coaches have to do a heck of a lot more than simply coach football these days as far as the kids are involved. I hope Coach Stowe can get the Tomcats back on track. I wish him the best of luck
  24. It tells you that Gibson County is simply not very good and connot stop our 3rd string offense from scoring. And you know what? It could have been much worse. I'll be the first to admit that our schedule isnt particulaly difficult this year early in the season. But we get McNairy, Lexington (who was supposed to be pretty good)and South Side in weeks 6,7and 8. There's nothing we can do about Bolivar, Fayette Ware and Liberty...they are all region games. Gibson County is the only school that Crockett County has played every year since its inception in 1985. Westview is still Westview...they just happen to be a little down this year. SBEC....only time will tell. Manassas....no defense. And i guess i was dreaming when i recalled the Cavs in the Clinic Bowl in 2001. I coulda sworn I was really there.
  25. DB. Ernest is a bit undersized to be a SEC running back.
